Guest gomichaelkgo Posted December 30, 2003 Report Posted December 30, 2003 The ATT Wireless GSM network is TERRIBLE in Portland, OR. I really liked the handset, too bad for ATT. I ended up with an LG VX6000 from Verizon, as I'm not willing to pay $500 for a Samsung I600. I'll see what's out there in a year when my contract is up. Later, Michael
Guest equis Posted December 30, 2003 Report Posted December 30, 2003 Good luck with the new service, I just have to add that the ATT service in the Bay Area California is terrible also. I think it's just bad everywhere I can't even stand in an entrance to a house with out loosing the signal!!!!!! I make most of my cell phone calls outside and let the voicemail take care of the rest. The best service I have had was Sprint I got a signal pretty much anywhere but the Customer Service drove me away.
Guest Du2ty Posted December 30, 2003 Report Posted December 30, 2003 Thats ONE good thing about the UK, signal pretty much everywhere.
Guest Gnuig Posted December 30, 2003 Report Posted December 30, 2003 Thats ONE good thing about the UK, signal pretty much everywhere. We also have good coverage thruout Denmark... such a small and flat country :) , so I guess it's not that difficult to cover :-) (and we have many different operators). '3' - a new (and only) provider of 3G here in Denmark has some problems though, as only the major cities are covered, yet this is only a question of time when (and if) the other providers join in
Guest lawsonium Posted December 30, 2003 Report Posted December 30, 2003 I can name FOUR places where you would quite simply expect an Orange signal in the UK and there is nothing. All other networks fine, but no Orange. On the whole Orange is good and has fair/good coverage, but have some big holes where others do not! (I'm on Orange) Matt.
Guest Saege Posted December 30, 2003 Report Posted December 30, 2003 The GSM system is "very new" to the US and the US is much bigger. I know times where GSM was just in big cities. But it grow. In the beginning in Germany the coverage was not to good, just in big cities and around the highways. Now the coverage is nearly complete. BTW my was was in Tumen, RUS and I had a clear and steady phone connection. Tumen is in the Ural region :-)
Guest equis Posted December 30, 2003 Report Posted December 30, 2003 I am a bit upset that the NEXT generation GSM seems to be a step backwards, it always sounds like I am on a radio that little kids use. I miss my Sprint today but I look at my sexy MPX and forget about it. :)
Guest aristoBrat Posted December 31, 2003 Report Posted December 31, 2003 The ATT Wireless GSM network is TERRIBLE in Portland, OR. We don't even have AT&T out here ... we're in an area covered by their partner SunCom. SunCom's logo is "We're SunCom -- and we get it!" Apparently "it" doesn't mean GSM/GPRS because they just started testing that about 3 months ago. Anyhow, I went with T-Mobile GSM and got a unlocked SPV e100 MS Smartphone and .. well, it rocks. Does a great job with weak signals. I'm sure in a year there'll be a crapload of new phones out -- and GSM service in Portland will be a lot better, so ... hang in there man :) (BTW, I "bit" on the i600 -- forked out the $500 for it, but ... had some pretty bad buyers remorse within the 15 day return window, so I took it back. It was cool, but $$$, and I hated VZW's rate plans. 400 minutes for $39.99??!?! ewwwwwwwwww)
Guest grossygrossy Posted December 31, 2003 Report Posted December 31, 2003 I have T-Mobile in San Diego and i use an unlocked MPX200. The coverage is excellent. T-Mobile has excellent rate plans too. I should be a T-Mobile saleman! Anyway, don't give up on the MPX200...its the best phone/PDA I have ever owned. Good luck!
Guest rchiileea Posted December 31, 2003 Report Posted December 31, 2003 are u saying it 39 dollers a mnth for 400 mins becouse if you are u shouldnt complain in uk its 30 gbp a mnth for 200 minutes let me see 39.99 USD 22.4714 GBP United States Dollars = United Kingdom Pounds = 400 mins 30.00 GBP 53.3867 USD United Kingdom Pounds = United States Dollars = 200 mins so unless i got off on wrong foot dont complain u guys are lucky
Guest aristoBrat Posted December 31, 2003 Report Posted December 31, 2003 Wow -- that's crazy! But in the US, when you can pay $39.99 and get ~600 minutes with just about everyone else, Verizon only giving 400 minutes seems crappy. :)
Guest rchiileea Posted December 31, 2003 Report Posted December 31, 2003 as per normal like thats not half of it we pay 76p a litre of gasoline as well so a gallon for us is nearly 9 bucks ^^^^^^ rip off britian
Guest aristoBrat Posted December 31, 2003 Report Posted December 31, 2003 I'd be so broke if I lived over there!
Guest Du2ty Posted December 31, 2003 Report Posted December 31, 2003 Is this thread gonna turn into a UK "v" US cost of living rant, Ill have my 2p (4 cents) worth if it is! Guest JoshB Posted December 31, 2003 Report Posted December 31, 2003 I'm in the Portland, OR area, and can defintely say, if you have a GSM phone, you want to be with T-Mobile. T-Mo has the best GSM coverage in the US by far. AT&T and Cingular are catching up, but are still nowhere near T-Mo. I got my MPX200 a couple of weeks ago from CompUSA, then had it unlocked to work on T-Mobile. I had come from a Pocket PC Phone Edition, so I already had my GPRS plan set up. Once I unlocked my MPX200, all I had to do was configure the GPRS settings, and I was up an running. I just got done replacing all of the references to the AT&T logos and graphics with T-Mobile ones, thanks to a thread here, so now the metamorphosis is complete. :) JoshB
Guest mcwarre Posted January 1, 2004 Report Posted January 1, 2004 I earn £854 PM Bloody hell Du2ty, You need another job!!!
