Guest equis Posted December 30, 2003 Report Posted December 30, 2003 :) So I was frustrated that I could not map buttons to play so after my smashing the buttons I finally got it. Mapping Buttons: To map buttons after it says fx00 or something to that effect I could not get out of the menu and had to turn off my phone. Workaround: From the controllers menu. Delete the already mapped button, press the action button on your desired NES button. Once at the Press Key prompt it goes to a screen that states the map key to your phone like fx00. The OK prompt does not let you get out and gets the phone stuck, from here press the Action Button (That Blue Circle on your phone  ) then the key you originally wanted repeatedly until it shows up on the menu. Go to the bottom of the menu and click ok. Then make sure to exit the program and start it again for the changes to take effect. How come I can't move right and shoot/jump at the same time!!?? I tried using various keys it seems the bottom number buttons of the phone do not allow you to move and shoot or do actions in games for some reason at the same time. Example trying to play Blaster Master or Mike Tyson's punch I could not press up and play it could only go up but no button pressing. Workaround: I found these to work best (1)Keypad= B Button (4)Keypad= A Button (*)Keypad= Select (0)Keypad= Start This combo allows me to play games as Double Dragon to actually jump to the left and NOW right and kick in mid air also! This combo works to hold down a direction and press either the A or B button simultaneously. Note: Down + Left seems to be a MPX200 hardware issue, you can not use it everything else works though. 1/12/04 Awarner has bravely opened up his MPX200 to see on how to resolve the down left issue. Click Here I come back to a game and all I get is sound and a black screen! I was playing Zelda and got far and had to exit the program. I ran the game and it was a black screen but with sound. Unfortunately the program has a save game state that does not work correctly. Workaround: Prior to running SmartNES open File Manager Smart Explorer (you choose) point it to where your ROMs are located press the Home Button then run SmartNES. When the screen goes black with sound exit the SmartNES press the back button once this should bring you to file manager in the ROM folder. Simply erase a file called for example zelda.nes.sav, don't worry all save game features are in a file called Zelda.sav. Remember to erase the file with the extension "nes.sav" . Start up SmartNES and whala! The game works again! Workaround 2: Turn off and then on your phone some games respond well to this. I have been playing Master Blaster and this seems to work great. Other games like Contra / Pro Wrestling just keep on freezing even if I turn off then on the phone. Adjusting sound during gameplay. You can't adjust while you play. Workaround: Press the back button, on the SmartNES screen adjust yor MPX "Earpeice Volume" then resume your game with the new sound setting. ---------------++++++++-------------------- I hope you find this little mini-guide helpful. I also hope a kind developer can continue the project and fix these little problems. --------------- ++++++++-------------------
Guest nxsfan Posted December 30, 2003 Report Posted December 30, 2003 I have an mpx200 and SmartNes 1.2, and i had absolutely no issues with the key mapping. Also, i havent had any issues with saving and resuming games, however i have not tried zelda so perhaps the issue is somehow specific to that game?
Guest martin Posted December 30, 2003 Report Posted December 30, 2003 It sounds similar to the SmartNES problem discussed in the Samsung i600 section. http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php...p=342980#342980 If confirmed then maybe it will work for others too. Thanks to Omegared I have found hot to fix this! Apparently, all of us who have the i600 and CANNOT map the buttons using SmartNES have an OLDER VERSION. Because of Omegared's assistance, I ventured out to find a way as why it would'nt work with my i600. Anyways, it all came down simply to this: - We have an OLDER version of SmartNES which does'nt work. I'm pretty sure all of you who can't get it to work downloaded SmartNES from: http://www.monolithix.org/SPV_software.html while the WORKING VERSION (1.2) is from here: http://perso.wanadoo.fr/wawawoum/smartnes.exe Enjoy!
Guest equis Posted December 30, 2003 Report Posted December 30, 2003 I read through the orginal posts for the SmartNES before I installed it and I had all the problems the other users were having some on the SPV and some on the MPX. It seems that the save state sometimes works but once you get the black screen there is no way to continue the game. Also right off the bat I could not map any buttons, so in any case this should be useful if it ever gets stuck.
Guest equis Posted January 11, 2004 Report Posted January 11, 2004 Has anyone picked up to further the SmartNES project yet?
Guest kristianmatthews Posted February 4, 2004 Report Posted February 4, 2004 great fix on the button mapping. when i first installed Smartnes 1.2 it mapped fine, but after changing it so i could play bomberman it wouldnt let me change back. also, you can get out of the button mapping screen by pressing back.
Guest DOOManiac Posted February 6, 2004 Report Posted February 6, 2004 In response to I come back to a game and all I get is sound and a black screen!: I've found that this problem corrects itself whenever there is a need for the screen to be entirely redrawn by the game. Situations such as level changes, dying (and thus restarting the level), etc. So if you're playing and know you're gonna quit soon, you can quit JUST before the next screen loads. Thatway whenever you load up the program next time it goes right where it left off, and since the screen is completely refreshed you're good to go. As an odd sidenote, I figured that if getting the emu itself to redraw the screen could fix it, perhaps rotating the view could too. No such luck, the nes game itself has to do a complete redraw to fix the problem I'm afraid. No idea why...
Guest mugenakuma Posted February 20, 2004 Report Posted February 20, 2004 Hey equis, Thanks for all the helpful info on getting SmartNes to run best on an mpx. I have had both for quite a while and ALL the issues you mentioned have been a problem for me. Obviously they aren't anymore. thanks dude! Glenn

Glenn <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Playing with the counterclockwise flipped screen is the best so you can use the keypad more comfortably
