Guest spacecowboy6982 Posted December 30, 2003 Report Posted December 30, 2003 Hi guys :!: Is the above possible :?: Could someone advise me what cables I need to do the job :?: The only reason I want to do this is so I ca nuse my PS2 via the monitor. The back of the PC below is very similar to mine to give you a rough idea of what i might need. Cheers for any help, spacecowboy-pc-back.jpg
Guest MECX Posted December 30, 2003 Report Posted December 30, 2003 dont think its possbile with that system in the picture as there are no TV inputs. What i would do (aside from buying a super dooper graphics card) is get a cheap TV card (ive got a cheap Hauppauge one) and then you can plug the ariel output of your PS2 into the TV card. Ive done this with a PS1 before and it worked ok but it wasnt as good as using a TV although i have a really old TV card so the new ones maybe better. 8)
Guest ferret Posted December 30, 2003 Report Posted December 30, 2003 I don't think this is what you're really after but my setup is, cheap external USB TV card from dabs (£20-30), ariel into the RF in, xbox into the s-video in and phono audio into my hi-fi, and living in crappy wales I can now watch (wait for it) BBC1 Wales, BBC2 Wales, HTV and S4C (yes that's it :) ) and xbox.
Guest spacecowboy6982 Posted December 30, 2003 Report Posted December 30, 2003 Quality - it will cost me about £50 but save alot of space :!: Cheers lads :!: spacecowboy
Guest Gorskar Posted December 31, 2003 Report Posted December 31, 2003 I'm just using a nice 19" TFT for my monitor and combined with the TV card = no need for a TV and loads of space saved. The card supports PVR functions (although I need a bigger harddisk to use them) As an added bonus I found a program on the net called Girder which can be used with the included remote control for other apps on the PC, so is very useful for DVD watching. If I had a console I could plug it into the TV card, but I find my PC to be the best thing for playing games anyway. Just as another suggestion I've seen some TFT monitors with TV tuners inbuilt, so you could use if with the console without the PC switched on if you wanted to go buy a new monotor that is :)

Guest spacecowboy6982 Posted December 31, 2003 Report Posted December 31, 2003 Bloody hell - mind you if the cash is available then why not :) I'm trying to imagine what Halo and the sunny streets of Vice City would look like on a 42 inch Plasma tho :D spacecowboy
Guest Gorskar Posted December 31, 2003 Report Posted December 31, 2003 £750? or try This - my lil brother has one which works quite nicely.
Guest spacecowboy6982 Posted December 31, 2003 Report Posted December 31, 2003 Thats fantastic value - I'll look in to this. Cheers Gorskar
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted December 31, 2003 Report Posted December 31, 2003 Impressive Gorskar, i haven't really looked to be honest but saw some for that price in Currys the other day. Might have to look into them if i get round to upgrading my monitor :)
Guest Taoski Posted January 3, 2004 Report Posted January 3, 2004 All you need to run the PS2 via the PC monitor is one little PS2 VGA Adapter box from here. This model appears to be the best around as it does the yPbPr graphics display - which gives better quality graphics/colour etc. You need to set this option on the PS2 also - via the setup menus. The monitor plugs direct into the adapter and that then plugs back into the PC via the cable supplied. You just click a switch on the adapter to switch between the 2! Audio is also provided from the adapter - so you might want to plug this into your line-in on your soundcard. Not sure if the audio cable was supplied with the adapter or not... but the VGA cable is. I had my PS2 running via a TV card and the quality of the display was not very good - and i found it to be a little too blurry (which may have been due to the TV card). The only benefit was that i could run it in a resizeable window.... but who wants to do that! I have had one of these VGA Adapters for ages and it works great! Got mine from some nice young man on eBay.
Guest spacecowboy6982 Posted January 3, 2004 Report Posted January 3, 2004 Wow - that is cool :!: Delays at central bank branches in dishing out new cards - mine comes Monday as I got pin today so that shall be my first purchase :!: Cheers :!:
