Guest krankie Posted December 31, 2003 Report Posted December 31, 2003 Has anyone had problems receiving premium text messages since the 1.6.1 upgrade? I run the text message service for Chester City FC and subscribe to it for quality control purposes to make sure the messages are going out quickly. Since applying the Orange 1.6.1 upgrade all text messages from the service have been truncated on my phone with just CCF appearing in the "From" field (it should be CCFC) and the message body totally blank. Other subscribers are getting the messages OK. I checked with MPP Global who provide the infrastructure for the service. I was hoping they may have had a rogue control character or other non ascii character in the from field but they have confirmed that there is no problem. I am receiving all other text messages without any problem, including Orange email alerts. Can anyone shed any light on this or report similar problems? I would like to approach Orange with this but feel I need more background knowledge to avoid being fobbed off by having MPP and Orange blaming the other for the problem.

Guest kelv23 Posted January 18, 2004 Report Posted January 18, 2004 Although I haven't got the Orange update I've had a problem with recieving texts internationally, namely Thailand.I can recieve texts from mates in the UK but not from Thailand and I'm getting the same excuses from Orange that its the network over there, yet my dad who is also on Orange can recieve texts. If anyones got any insight into this please let me know as Orange are just not worth talking to about it.Seriously considering changing to O2 or Tmobile!
Guest krankie Posted March 3, 2004 Report Posted March 3, 2004 After some extensive testing with the techie guys at Orange and MPP, I have a workaround. The corruption of text messgaes is occurring when the length of the content in the 'from' field is below a certain value, which seems to be around 6 or 7 characters Most of the time this field will contain a mobile phone number so it works fine. In our case it contained 'CCFC' and the messages were corrupted by the phone. I've now had this changed to ChesterCity, 11 characters the same as a UK phone number, and it now works fine. Obviously as I provide the service with MPP I'm in the fortunate position of being able to get this change made. I don't know much luck you guys will have requesting your text message provider to change the content of their from field but you can always ask. Orange are now aware of the problem and the details are being passed to their software team. However whether there will be another 2002 upgrade to incorporate a bugfix for this is anyones guess.
