Guest 4N1L Posted December 31, 2003 Report Posted December 31, 2003 Merry Christmas all! I've recently switched to the Mpx200 from the E100 (i had serious battery life issues). All is fine exept the following: I have the Orange Access pack, which allows WAP surfing only. I want to configure the setings so that i can only access WAP sites. This was relatively easy on the E100 as in Settings > Data Connections i had 'Internet Connection' set to 'Orange GPRS' and the 'WAP Connection' set to 'Orange WAP'. Additionally i had the Internet Explorer options set to 'WAP Network' with the box unticked. For some reason the same settings do not work on the MPx200? Any ideas? The other problem i am having is with the in-call sound quality. I am having problems with a static crackling sound during the phone call where it will appear to cut out for a split second. It is sometimes also acompanied by a buzzing sound - has anyone else had this? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated- thanks.
Guest sukipo Posted January 1, 2004 Report Posted January 1, 2004 I too have the same problem with wap and am still trying to find the answer.

Guest grossygrossy Posted January 2, 2004 Report Posted January 2, 2004 I have T-mobile and use T-Mobile Zones without a hitch...works great.
Guest 4N1L Posted January 2, 2004 Report Posted January 2, 2004 @ Sukipo...have you had any luck yet? This is what happening when i try to connect to IE. It attempts to connect (Connecting...) and then starts to load (Loading...) but i get an alert message - "The character '>' was expected. Line 31, Position 3 -- Typical usage: !" Is this consistant with what you're getting? If anyone else can help it would be much appreciated as its starting to wind me up now :? Thanks guys!
Guest martin Posted January 2, 2004 Report Posted January 2, 2004 To access Orange World you need to use http://wap.orange.co.uk. I don't think you can go through the proxy server to this site (using the SPV) so you can either by pass the proxy by changing Orange WAP to 'Points to WAP network' and use the WAP connection OR set the The internet connection also to Orange WAP and use the Internet connection.
Guest sukipo Posted January 2, 2004 Report Posted January 2, 2004 "The character '>' was expected. Line 31, Position 3 -- Typical usage: !" 4NIL this is exactly the same as I am receiving and regreatably I have not yet resolved this problem. Martin, you very kindly tried to help me before and I really appreciate it. There must be something that I am misunderstanding, sorry.
Guest martin Posted January 2, 2004 Report Posted January 2, 2004 sukipo I'm not sure what setup are you using but I suspect that you are still trying to access Orange World using wsp://wap.orange.co.uk Try ticking 'Auto detect Settings' in Internet Explorer and then connect to http://wap.orange.co.uk. If you have any problems then clear the IE history in Menu-Option-Memory and then re-load the page (also try menu-refresh when the page is loaded)
Guest sukipo Posted January 2, 2004 Report Posted January 2, 2004 Martin thanks for your reply. I am now connecting to Orange World but I am still not certain if I am connected to wap. Is there a definative way of confirming? What worries me is that from Orange world I link to Google and than follow the link to Full Google and I am able to access it. This makes me think that I am actually accessing "The Internet" with high data charges. Sorry if I sound dumb but this is an area that I am finding confusing, I had assumed that if connected to the wap network I would not be able to jump to full web pages on the same connection.
Guest 4N1L Posted January 2, 2004 Report Posted January 2, 2004 Thanks Martin, I'm able to connect now but i too am also a bit worried that there is nothing stopping me from inadvertently accessing full internet pages. I dont understand how exactly the same setting gave me no problems whatsoever on the E100? At the risk of sounding completely thick, there is something else i have noticed whilst using IE - When .gif pictures load up they are extremely low in resolution and very grainy. Although when i browse back through the pages the pictures become clear again. Why would this be? This never happened on my E100. Once again, thanks for all the help :)
Guest martin Posted January 2, 2004 Report Posted January 2, 2004 If you are on the Access pack then you can always set both Internet and WAP connections to Orange WAP and tick auto detect in IE. Any internet access (HTTP or WSP) would then use APN orangewap. I had assumed that if connected to the wap network I would not be able to jump to full web pages on the same connection. I think this depends on the APN and its associated restrictions applied by the Network provider. At first there were very strict controls placed on the WAP APN (WML only) but it's becoming much more open possibly due to the change in phone capabilities. On some networks there is now very little difference between the (restricted) WAP and (unrestricted) Internet APN's. Note that the Orange World GPRS pack allows use of either APN. The SPV itself is capable of both WEB and WAP browsing using either the Internet or WAP connection (if the APN allows). It's similar to the guys using T-zones who can surf the internet using APN wap.voicestream.com although they are on an unlimited plan so they don't have to worry  MSN messenger is still blocked though Hee Hee
Guest sukipo Posted January 9, 2004 Report Posted January 9, 2004 Problem now solved!!!! I have now installed a free app called "webwapselect" and can now coonect to wap sites.
