Guest Cougar186 Posted January 2, 2004 Report Posted January 2, 2004 Is there a way to play a sound when you open the MPx200... I heard mention of it once.. but not how to do it. thanks!
Guest grossygrossy Posted January 2, 2004 Report Posted January 2, 2004 I haven't seen anything. [Edit 1] I stand corrected: tbh its not a secret but its a bit of a usless http://smartphone.MoDaCo.com/viewtopic.php?t=7695>tweak tbh. just thought id mention it if you want instructions ill give em

Guest phideltwj Posted January 2, 2004 Report Posted January 2, 2004 From what I understand, the "OpenPhone" sound cannot be enabled.
Guest MadSci Posted March 2, 2004 Report Posted March 2, 2004 Too bad! They really missed the boat here. How much would you pay to have it make the (original) Star Trek communicator sound when you open it! Don't they have any imagination at Motorolla?
Guest mike-oh Posted March 2, 2004 Report Posted March 2, 2004 Or 'hello moto' would be fun for oh say......2hours? :)
Guest mike_t99 Posted March 21, 2004 Report Posted March 21, 2004 Hi all! My first post !! I hear a system click when I open my phone though. It's the same as the keypress click. Mind you. Would you want a Captain Kirk sound on every keypress? I think not... :)
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted March 21, 2004 Report Posted March 21, 2004 Really? what mpx do you have? the AT&T or Orange as I have hunted for the reg enteries and not come up with anything :?
Guest mike-oh Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 Hi all! My first post !! I hear a system click when I open my phone though. It's the same as the keypress click. Mind you. Would you want a Captain Kirk sound on every keypress? I think not... :) You sure it's not just the hinge that's making the clicking sound?
Guest mpd98 Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 Surely it has to be the hinge! If not I would be very interested to see how you have got a system sound. 8) I too have spent far too long looking through the registry, and after consulting with a mate, would like to bet on editing the values in HKEY_CURRENT_USERControlPanelOpenPhoneAction or HKEY_CURRENT_USERControlPanelSounds. Add an entry into either of those such as OpenPhone etc etc in the letter or Category and Sound values in the former. These are the only places where we can see changes. Matt.
Guest mpd98 Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 Oh yeah, sorry forgot to say I can't test myself as I don't have it with me. Repair time! Matt.

Tried both of those already and no joy :)
Guest FloatingFatMan Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 There most definately IS a sound event when you open the phone. If you turn ON the Keypad control sound event in Settings->Sounds it's that one. The registry entry is: [HKEY_CURRENT_USERControlPanelSoundsKeypress] and file it plays is: SWandHW.wav Unfortunately, you can't really do a lot with it as this file is replaced from the ROM when you reboot, oh, and do you REALLY want some potentially longish WAV file play for EVERY keypress? Damn shame really... There just seems to be no way to actually DO it, even though a claim was made on these forums a couples of months ago that it's possible, just makes the phone unstable. The claimant never said HOW though... :) FloatingFatMan
Guest MPXtricky Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 .....SNIP.... even though a claim was made on these forums a couples of months ago that it's possible, just makes the phone unstable. The claimant never said HOW though... :) FloatingFatMan I quizzed the claimant and he wouldn't spill the beans. As such, I conclude that he never said how because he didn't know how.
Guest actionj Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 I'm on AT&T and I hear the keypad tone when I open my flip too.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 Interesting as the file for the tone is SWandHW.wav it is actually the sound option for click. the sound file is only used as a name and not the location as you can change the name to another file in the Windows folder but the sound does not change.
Guest FloatingFatMan Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 It's probably one of those registry entries which need a reboot to work, and then promptly rewrites itself on reboot... I've also done some digging around in the WM2002 SDK and there IS an event defined for the flip open, TK_VFLIP... Unfortunately, according to PocketTV and my own checks, it's not implemented yet, nor in 2003 either :) Moto must be doing their own workaround to detect when the flip is open (else how can the answer on flip work!), but I've asked them, even jumped through the hoops to get on to their developer site, and got absolutely no reply as yet, and I asked over 6 weeks ago now! Guess it's a big secret or something... To be honest, on thinking about it... As the phone has enough to do on opening the flip, such as answering an incoming call, I guess maybe playing a potentially large WAV as well might just slow the phone down too much? FFM
Guest mpd98 Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 As the phone has enough to do on opening the flip, such as answering an incoming call, I guess maybe playing a potentially large WAV as well might just slow the phone down too much? FFM Good point well made. Matt.
Guest mpd98 Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 Tried both of those already and no joy :) Could you be a bit more specific awarner? What exactly did you add / edit in those keys? Matt.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 With the help of midnight we added new keys and values. midnight is the best person to explain in detail as he is the resident tweaks expert.
Guest MPXtricky Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 . . . ..I guess maybe playing a potentially large WAV as well might just slow the phone down too much? FFM yeah, but this would be well cool (for the first 3 times anyway) :)communicator.zip
