Guest Paul [MVP] Posted January 4, 2004 Report Posted January 4, 2004 A very Happy New Year to MoDaCo members across the world, from myself, and the rest of the moderation team. What better time to reflect on 2003, and to give you an insight into what you can expect from MoDaCo in 2004! I'd like to say a big thank you to all you guys, and particularly those who have supported the site by signing up to MoDaCo Plus, for helping make the last year such a success - we're nothing without YOU! Well, at the start of 2003, MoDaCo had only a handful of members, and by the end, had grown into a huge site with over 25,000 members! Of course, we are not going to be satisfied with these numbers, and 2004 is going to see some huge developments at MoDaCo.... read on for more details! :) The first change you may already have noticed, is that MoDaCo is now hosted on a new server. Over the past week you should have noticed that MoDaCo has become faster and more stable than ever before, due to our move to a vastly more powerful server than before. In addition, this new server means that the Microsoft Smartphone Newsgroups will soon be returning! I hope you will agree that MoDaCo is a fantastic forum, but the time has come to take MoDaCo beyond this, to become the complete resource for Smartphone owners. This is our primary aim for 2004, and on this note I would like to make 2 announcements! Firstly, I am very pleased to annouce that in the very near future, MoDaCo will be merging with Monolithix.org to become the leading Freeware resource for Smartphone. A completely overhauled Monolithix website will be coming online, with carefully designed integration into MoDaCo, putting everything you need HERE at your fingertips. Big thanks to Monolithix himself for making this possible, and I would like to also wish him well as he is forced to reduce his online time due to University commitments, and becomes MoDaCo's Offline Events Manager. Secondly, you will soon see a complete overhaul of our news system. Many people have commented on how they would like to see their news in one reliable place, and we hope to become that place. We are now looking to sign up members who would be willing to become the next generation of MoDaCo 'newshounds' - please PM me if you are interested! Of course, these changes are not the only things that will be happening at MoDaCo! Below are a few teasers as to what you can expect over the coming year... - A whole raft of new MoDaCo Plus benefits, Plus just gets bigger and better - The launch of 'MoDaCo Software' - beginning with the release of 'MoDaCo SyncIt!' (formerly 'MoDaCo Smart Journal'), and continuing with top class releases - MoDaCo 2, another great new site design from Midnight! - Integrate@MoDaCo - a great new project to integrate Smartphone access into existing technologies, beginning with the full public release of phpBB Mod for Smartphone, and Smartphone TiVoWeb mods! - MoDaCo Event III - to be organised by our new Offline Events Manager, Monolithix. - WebLogs@MoDaCo - There are some great photo blogs out there, the best of them all @ MoDaCo! - Some great new relationships with both networks, phone manufacturers and software houses, to be announced very soon! Finally, we shortly hope to be announcing our new MoDaCo Sponsor, continuing our policy of non-intrusive sponsorship, and helping ensure that MoDaCo can continue to grow as the Smartphone platform itself increases in popularity! :D P
Guest mcwarre Posted January 4, 2004 Report Posted January 4, 2004 Cool. Looking forward to it all. Cheers P :) :D
Guest Coucou Posted January 4, 2004 Report Posted January 4, 2004 Excellent news, will there be any further integration with Coolsmartphone as there was at least one step towards that in 2003? hope it all goes smoothly. :) Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted January 4, 2004 Report Posted January 4, 2004 CoolSmartphone is run independently, so it's hard to say, but Leigh (founder of CSP) and I have spoken about a few ideas... so watch this space ;-) P
Guest bikespod Posted January 4, 2004 Report Posted January 4, 2004 :) this sounds great, a definite step forward, especially merging and combining all that talent and commitment. Looking forward to seeing the results, keep up the good work. thanks to all.

(regarding modaco authentication for comments on msmobiles)
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted January 4, 2004 Report Posted January 4, 2004 RedHat Enterprise Linux 3.0, since phpBB runs on Apache and MySQL. P
Guest www.msmobiles.com Posted January 4, 2004 Report Posted January 4, 2004 "]RedHat Enterprise Linux 3.0, since phpBB runs on Apache and MySQL. P that's OK. msmobiles runs on BSD Unix and I think that even pocket pc thoughts runs on Linux...

Hip hip.. 2)Out with the old in with the New eh? NB just interested - who actually finds the software catalogue a useful resource? I do my best to keep it up to date but I'm starting to feel its the forgotten corner of Modaco.
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted January 4, 2004 Report Posted January 4, 2004 I do! Your work is really appreciated Gorskar! P
Guest Coucou Posted January 4, 2004 Report Posted January 4, 2004 Kind of ironic that pro-microsoft websites use linux! I'm all for it mind. Do the changes mean the MoDaCo forum is steadily becoming more and more professional? I mean in terms of being run as a business? I hope so because I think that it will mean a long future for a great site. Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest Brody Posted January 5, 2004 Report Posted January 5, 2004 MoDaCo will go from strength to strength, I can't imagine it going any other way tbh! Once again well done Paul[MVP]! Look forward to the new developments!
Guest sonborj Posted January 5, 2004 Report Posted January 5, 2004 Hats off to Modaco :) indeed a very fast server!
Guest Matt Whitfield Posted January 5, 2004 Report Posted January 5, 2004 First of all, Happy New Year! "]- Integrate@MoDaCo - a great new project to integrate Smartphone access into existing technologies, beginning with the full public release of phpBB Mod for Smartphone, and Smartphone TiVoWeb mods! Excellent! Will be looking forward to the public release of the phpBB Mod :-D
Guest www.msmobiles.com Posted January 5, 2004 Report Posted January 5, 2004 Kind of ironic that pro-microsoft websites use linux! Not all. msmobiles.com uses BSD Unix (the same on which Mac OS X is based). Not Linux. If you knew history (of msmobiles.com) you would know why... Anyway: Red Hat is a very good and stable system so no wonder MoDaCo now works faster. Besides this: I wonder what processor does this server of MoDaco has?
Guest midnight Posted January 5, 2004 Report Posted January 5, 2004 whats all this talk about servers gotta do with whats coming to MoDaCo in 2004???? :)
Guest www.msmobiles.com Posted January 5, 2004 Report Posted January 5, 2004 whats all this talk about servers gotta do with whats coming to MoDaCo in 2004???? :) Paul mentioned servers at least 2 times in his initial post, and questions were about it what he mentioned, so what is your problem midnight? What you wanted to say Midnigh? Come on, go for it! That you...what?
Guest midnight Posted January 5, 2004 Report Posted January 5, 2004 notice the wink???? thats to like say i'm joking, you know, just trying to nudge this thread back on topic :) and why are you trying to start a fight, bored or something? (dont answer, lets stay on topic :D)
Guest www.msmobiles.com Posted January 5, 2004 Report Posted January 5, 2004 notice the wink???? thats to like say i'm joking, you know, just trying to nudge this thread back on topic :) and why are you trying to start a fight, bored or something? (dont answer, lets stay on topic :D) here is on topic: there is plenty of various freeware software on modaco in various threads... would it be possible to have it ON ONE PAGE? (i.e. software that is hosted for download on modaco, not on handango or smartphone.net)?
Guest midnight Posted January 5, 2004 Report Posted January 5, 2004 errr, i think thats part of the merge with monolithix.org, so all freeware will be available from modaco basically, yes :)
Guest morpheus2702 Posted January 5, 2004 Report Posted January 5, 2004 I'd love to see Midnight and Msmobiles bare knuckle boxing. In a barn, as naked as the day they were born with the rest of MoDaCo goading them on. :) Maybe an idea for the next meet?
Guest midnight Posted January 6, 2004 Report Posted January 6, 2004 naked? hehe, errr, it sounded like a fun idea up until then hehe but i think we should use those over sized boxing gloves you see in ibiza or maybe those daft sumo suits hehe The first rule of MoDaCo Fight Club is do not talk about MoDaCo Fight Club, the second rule of MoDaCo Fight Club .... anyways, you'll have to ask mono about that, now he's Offline Events Manager :)
Guest morpheus2702 Posted January 6, 2004 Report Posted January 6, 2004 Heheh, then move on to Vic & Bob style frying pans and then some full-on Itchy and Scratchy Violence. Tyler Durden? Midnight is Dialler Modem. Msmobiles had bitch tits... :)
