3g only works in Firefox!

Hi,

I've got a really weird issue, I'm on holiday and bought a local sim to access the internet, this worked fine until I got to the hotel and got a username and password for their WiFi, when I joined this network it sent me to a webpage to sign in which I did and was fine, however now almost nothing works on 3g, the really odd bit is that Firefox still works fine but everything else I have tried fails, the error chrome gives mentions something about a proxy not working so I'm guessing after logging in to the WiFi network it reconfigured something and when I go back to 3g it leaves the old configuration in place, does anyone out there have any idea what I can do to fix this?
