Hi everyone. This is my first post here so forgive me if this has been discussed before. I did a bit of searching but couldn't find anything that answered my question completely. I'm looking into purchasing a OP B7610. Since I'm in Australia and they aren't released here yet, and I doubt they ever will be, I think my best bet at the moment is eBay. Soooo… bottom line is there are a few models on sale that either have winmo 6.1 or 6.5 installed. For some reason the ones that have 6.1 are dramatically cheaper than the 6.5 models ($80-$100). I'm not too picky because I know that I can upgrade it to 6.5 myself but the problem is that the upgrade may not retain the features of the handset.

1. Samsung is SUPPOSEDLY going to release an upgrade rom but who knows when. This I'd prefer not to wait for because when the time comes that it is released, It'll cause a complete wipe of the phone and its a big hassle to restore everything back afterwards mainly because I'm using MissingSync on the Mac to sync.

2. Don't get me wrong, Secany is a HUGE contributor to Samsung rom development and I want to commend you for that. But I couldn't quite get all the info I wanted from forums discussing this rom. For example, I know it sounds crazy but, I actually WANT the touchwiz UI to stay because I like the way that Samsung has implemented everything into the theme. Mainly the media player and all the extras that come in stock Samsung roms really appeal to me. But as far as my research went, correct me if I'm wrong but Secany's rom only goes as far as completely supporting the device hardware within the default Titanium UI, NOT having the features that would normally come in a Samsung 6.5 rom. I hope that made sense! :)

3. This is my final option but I don't really want to be asking this seeing as though I'll be troubling a lot of people by doing this. So I'm very sorry in advance! What I was wondering was, would it be possible for someone with a Samsung 6.5 rom to dump it so that it can be flashed onto other devices? Sorry if this sounds outrageous but my experience with winmo is really the internal features. Once it comes to tampering with roms, I honestly don't trust myself and my knowledge bank ends there!

OR to save everyone the hassle, should I just bite the bullet and spend the extra and save myself a bit of time?

Thanks for taking the time to read. Sorry it's a long post but I suppose I just want to spend my money wisely here as it's my first device upgrade since my good ol' kaiser. I might be stuck with this device for a while, so I want the whole experience trouble free!

All ROM release by Secany is Samsung stock ROM with all Samsung implement programs inside. (Just not sure where Secany get it and mostly not release by Samsung officially).

Secany never release any cooked rom but ony the Stock ROM, which means your touchWiz is remain.

Beside this, I think you post in wrong section, B7610 section shall be here:

Yeah mate I realised it was in the wrong section after posting it! You can see that I'm really bad at this stuff. :) Anyway… That's great that Secany's is essentially stock rom. So that means it's easy for me to go and buy the 6.1 version and just flash it? Mate you are a lifesaver. You wouldn't believe how much time I spent looking for a small hint that this is the case. I guess nobody would have bothered to publish it because the easy way to find out is just go ahead and flash! Do you know if Secany's rom supports the hardware FULLY? I know that the keyboard, camera application etc. is there working, but how about the deeper things? For example the built in compass that we can access from the LCDTEST.exe and most notably the TV out feature? Other than that, this is GREAT news! Your question about where Secany got it, I believe if the rom he cooked IS the stock rom, he probably purchased a b7610 with stock rom and just dumped it and prepared it so other people can flash it. Thanks a lot bro.

Maybe someone here has an answer to the following question:

Is it possible to adapt the i8000 roms to b7610? Since the phones are almost the same? The development for the i8000 is much faster compared to b7610!

Kind regards,

Jan Willem

If I remember correctly, flashing the i8000 rom directly onto the Pro should run it automatically without any dramas as the internal components are almost identical (cpu, comm board etc). My only concern however is the hardware keyboard will most likely be disabled as there is no driver for it in the i8000 rom. As for slow development, yes you are right but give it some time, the b7610 is just as capable if not more than the i8000. The reason why the development is slow is because there is not many people that even use the b7610. If you search this forum, there is under a page of topics based on the B7610. Even on eBay, there are under 20 listings for devices advertised at any given point in time. Considering that the i8000 was released a few months before the Pro was. Personally I actually like the 'Work' theme on the Pro! Most things that are written for the i8000 generally works flawlessly on the Pro because under the hood, they are essentially very similar.

True, they are almost the same. But i like the new Roms of the i8000. The Roms have much more free ram compared to my current rom. Let`s hope the b7610 will receive the same attention. :)

I don't know about you but when I get mine, I'll write a review on what the existing 6.1 rom is like then I'll probably flash on a custom rom, either plain titanium 6.5 or the manila 2.5 rom. Custom roms seem to free up A LOT more ram, or so others are saying. I'll keep you all posted

Yeah, i want to do that to. BUT, the problem is that almost no b7610 ROMS are available. So, not much to flash ;-) :)

There are a few out there making Manila 2.6 roms for the i8000 and like you said the i8000 seems to be getting all the attention around here. Maybe they need a little persuasion!
