Omnia II Sound Issue

I posted this on the Verizon forums and it was suggested that I also post here looking for an answer so here it goes.

My phone will randomly turn sound off. According to all sound profiles my sound is on and it should make noise when ringing or text messages come in. The problem is that the sounds will randomly turn off but not necessarily all of them. I may receive text notifications and not rings or vice versa or I may not receive either. Then randomly they will come back and I will receive all the sound notifications.

I recently had my phone replaced and once I got the new one it began doing the same thing. I just can't believe that it is a coincidence that I would get two phones (both brand new) that would do the same thing. In an effort to fix it I updated my firmware on my old phone and everything but did not help.

I love this phone and I don't want to get rid of it and I don't want to go back to the Verizon store if there is a fix for it.

Thanks in advance for any advice you may have.

are you using the stock rom?

Can you reproduce an exact sequence that forces the sound to shut down partially/temporarily?

Without the phone in hand, or a scenario it is difficult to help you out. I have never had this problem and I think it would be unlikely (but plausible) to have to new phones with these problems.

That is really strange. Have you installed any programs, or done any tweaks or anything?

I am using the stock rom and there is nothing that reproduces the problem. It is totally random.

I had added some programs to my first phone but when I replaced my phone I did not add anything until after it had already started giving me problems. I also hard reset my original phone after a while thinking that would fix the problem but it did not.

I agree that it is highy unlikely that both phones would have this issue so I figure there has to be something that I am doing that I don't realize that I am doing.

How did you transfer your phone contact and any other file from your old phone??

:) :)

The Verizon store did it for me when they replaced the phone.

They may also have transferred the problem...

Sometimes doc file, pic files, setting files, carry ghost of past problems.

Sooo.

One thing you could do clean house . save on to your PC any you really need then tranfer your contacts, favorites, calender to MYPhone from MS .

do a hard reset then use the Myphone to get back contact, favorites, calender.

I never care for syncing my phone with WMDC sometime that will get bad info into your phone,

Start with a clean phone and add slowly.

Most likely its a old program setting thats causing the issue.

Tranfering and syncing is good but as you see it carries problems.

:) :)

Agreed, I'd go one step further and backup the phone with Microsoft MyPhone, and then hard reset/sync again to get contacts/email/sms and don't add anything for a day or maybe two to see if it reoccurs. WMDC is virtually useless, I don't know why ppl still use it.

I have the same issue, completely random. Usually happens when the phone has been on for a while, and a soft reset usually fixes it. I lose the ringer sound and vibration, but all other sounds work fine. Still running the stock rom.

Ok well I tried this and thought it was going to work but after only transferring my contacts after waiting a day and a half the problem started back. Back to the drawing board. :-(

Wondering..

Did you do a hard reset THEN add back in your contacts, only ???

Or

Do a hard reset and don't add anything for a few hours or more see if problem reappears.

Unfortunately, I have to add my contacts immeditately. I don't have a choice. I am working so I don't have a choice I need my contacts and can't go a day without them.

Well since it doesn't seem like there is any real answer to my problem I am thinking about installing a new ROM. Since I have never done this before I will ask a few questions.

1. Do you think this will fix my problem?

2. What are the most popular ROMs for the Omnia II 920? (is there a place to see the different features)

3. How difficult is this to do? (I am really nervous about screwing my phone up)

4. If I don't like it or screws something up how hard is it to go back?

I would love to see the abilities of this phone as I am pretty sure they are immense I am just really nervous about doing it.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Flashing to a new rom takes so time and patience. Really happy that you have the "work" problem It's a serious issue for me at present..

IMHO...

1. most likely but not a guarantee :)

2. I like Ninja's "Black & Blue, That's what I've been using lately. Amd's put out a very good !! running rom also . You see it's hard to answer this question because once you catch the flashing bug you tend to try them all for the I920 phone.

3. You can't really break your phone because your not messing with the phone side of the phone but the pda side . I suggest you do a bit of reading this thread and the 8000 Omnia thread BUT you can only use the i920 roms

4.you can flash back using a rom that's in the i920 section but very few if any have to my knowledge.

The hardest thing will be getting you PC setup to flash ..it takes time & patience, as I have said before But once you have it its a breeze.

The info is here ...

:) :)

All right... I am going to attempt to flash Ninja's and will begin reading about it today.

One quick question: Does this void my warranty or insurance protection with Verizon/Samsung?

Thanks for the response.

Thanks for the response.

The times I've had to go back to VZW I flashed back to original rom by VZW/Samsung DC23.

I guess it could void the warranty but flash back or if the phone get physically broken then they can't turn it on either.

"Look into the FLASH Luke"

You'll be fine...

:) :)

ps like I said before the hardest thing will be the drivers for you PC .See my how I flashed guide.

As far as text sound notifications go I've noticed that if you have the messaging app open (as in displaying on the screen) the phone doesn't make the usual vibration or ringing that it usually does, according to the phone's sound profile. I find this annoying when I am texting while on the computer. I'll leave the messaging app open and forget to look down because the newest response came in silently. My Omnia 1 did the same thing. Perhaps that could explain part of your issue?
