That's right, I applied this update over the air (voda UK) to my new Legend yesterday. It came in at about 24 megs and was a basic networking performance tweak, I think it included WiFi as well though.

As I only got my phone yesterday I couldn't say what's changed as the phone found an update straight away but I have H and E notifications for HSDPA and Edge, is that new or not?

I'm just glad voda didn't choose to load the phone up with crapware. :D

No, it's firmware version 2.1 update 1 and known as software version 2.05.161.1 at least for Vodafone UK users.

The software version ID differs country by country and if you google you'll see also that it seems Australia had this update way back in May. It aired on Vodafone UK on August 06th or there about.

Has anyone else had any problems with the text message interface since installing this update? When I go to a text message thread, it goes to the top of the thread (the oldest message I received) rather than the bottom (the newest message I've received) like it used to. This is REALLY frustrating because every time I get a new message from a contact who I've already got a couple of hundred messages from, I have to scroll endlessly to get to the one I actually want to see. Of course, I could delete all my existing messages so I don't have so far to scroll but I really don't think I should have to!

I can't be certain that it was the update that caused this problem, but all I know is that before the update I didn't have this issue, and now I do - so it'd be good to know if anyone else has experienced this.

UPDATE:

Just found a thread on Android Forums covering the topic I just posted on...

http://androidforums.com/htc-legend/142910...update-1-a.html

It's good to know I'm not the only one having a problem and HTC are on it, but irritating that they've introduced a bug in to the upgrade - and I won't hold my breath for a quick resolve!

Since I only got my Legend phone after the firmware update was released and applied it before knowing anything about the update, I didn't suffer with this SMS problem (myself), new phone and no saved messages.

One work-around, until HTC get a fix to fix a fix, out, is to use Handcent's free SMS app. That should work properly and allow you to view newer messages first again! I've been reading about the update and learning that it's apparently caused a lot of grief to many who've since complained about problems not just with messaging (check the 'rooting HTC Legend' sticky thread above). Myself, my phone seems to be okay but I have nothing to compare it to since I didn't experience the old pre-update 1 firmware.

It's really a great shame the Legend forum isn't a little more active that people in the know could've posted a warning so we didn't install such bugged software updates in the first place. Compared to the T-Mobile Pulse forum, this place is barely worth visiting so I hope things change and people start to take an active interest in posting useful information once in a while!

I've tried that out before and wasn't too impressed with it but it's not a bad idea.

I'm just really uninpressed with HTC for not getting this sorted. Imagine if this were a bug introduced to the iPhone - even for a seemingly minor thing like this there would be uproar and Apple would have it fixed within hours - but as usual as HTC customers, who cares?!

We're in total agreement. If it were Apple, man, would it ever be a big story! Now that I have a few messages building up myself from the same contact, I can see how it quickly becomes a pain to scroll down to your latest message. What numpty at HTC was responsible for cocking this simple little thing up in the first place and which pillock has decided we should all wait till they're good and ready to release a fix?

Yeah, I've tried that Handcent SMS app a couple of times and just prefer the HTC Sense one/Android vanilla for simplicity. I got two notifications for every message I received, which was mildly annoying. There's one called Chomp SMS (as I recall) which might be worth trying?

I love the avatar btw! Moo! Very cool and very apt. Top marks.

Handecnt is very configurable and allows you to get just as simple a look & expirience as any stock mms app.

It's hardly Handcent's fault that another app is also still giving you notifications; if you choose to install it, just disable the stock mms app's notification.
