Connected Home Works!??

So.. when i got my i910 i was excited to see how well Connected Home worked.. well.. it didn't(for me). Then when i got my i920 i thought, well surely they've made some improvements to the app, but sadly i never got it to work. I would select the movie i wanted to play, on my PC over WI-FI, and it would always say "needs renderer" or something like that.

On my i910 and i920 I mostly used cooked roms and for the most part Connected Home wasn't even cooked in, so i figured it was because everyone had bad luck with it just as i have.

Even after searching online for reasons why it didn't work or how to correct the problems i never get a good answer.

After upgrading to DG21 however, i was able to play around 50% of the movies i tried to play.

So then I installed TVersity to see if the transcoding it does would improve that percentage and now i can play >90% with tho other movies saying "invalid resolution".

So.. has this app ALWAYS worked this well or have they made improvements? Because it's always been an app that i was very disappointed in.

My biggest interest in Connected Home is getting it to stream the content from my Directv DVR. It shows up but won't play when I try to open anything. Not much on my PC for me to stream off, but awesome that you got it working. Definitely a good start.

The problem is everyone has a different implementation of DLNA...some companys only support certain video formats and resolutions, etc...interoperability is crap basically. I posted a couple threads on this in the main omnia II forum.

Connected Home (DMC) DLNA app is great when it works.

I had the original ROM on my i8000 and DMC worked fine. It took me a while to figure out how to set up the desktop computer to stream the media. Like yourself - TVersity ended up on my desktop and it works great.

However, once I upgraded i8000 ROM to JD1 and now JH2 I have not been able to get Connected Home working  My current situation is that Connected Home will start and then it exits by itself within about 1 second.

It appears there aren't that many people who use their phones for this feature. There's very few responses when I ask for help in this regard.

That's why there's very few responses here to say "yes, connected home is great - though I don't think they upgraded anything"

I love Tversity  . It certainly may not be the best app ever for streaming videos but the interface is pretty simple and straightforward. I actually use Tversity to stream all my movies and videos to my XBOX 360. If you know the XBOX, then you know Microsoft left out support for various formats and limited the natively supported ones. Tversity transcodes the videos on the fly for use with a plethora of devices- and it works pretty darn well for me! I even set it up for a neighbor who owns a PS3.

It also helps get me past that darn Xbox Live protection- meaning the XBOX won't allow me to play certain formats unless I'm signed into Live. If I don't feel like signing in online I can set Tversity to transcode the video to a format the 360 does natively support.

I have to say it works decent with Mobile Devices as well, but I have never been one to watch movies on a tiny screen when I'm home. Seriously I have a nice size LCD TV in the living room, why watch it on a small 3-4 inch screen  ?
