Android install for dummies?

I've been away from my i8000 for a while, and as such haven't been keeping up with the Android stuff. I had the first beta release working just fine way back when, but now the only guides I see are talking about installing a virtual machine, partitions, etc.

I'm in no way knowledgeable about stuff like that (makes cruising sites like this and xda a challenge at times), so I'm wondering is there a "for dummies" install procedure at all? I could probably get the virtual machine thing down, but I don't even know what a partition is. Not to mention I just finally got My Storage back so I really don't wanna eff it up again.

Many thanks.

-edit-

It was actually the Alpha release now that I think of it. By the time the full Beta came out, my My Storage was turfed and I had gotten another phone.

Thanks guys for the replies very much

Instructions talk about creating partitions on My Storage. Very far out of my knowledge base, but thank you for the link

I took a look through, very convoluted, I was hoping there was some sort of tutorial. Will look again later though, try to make some sense of it all. Thanks again.

This is the easiest way to install android.

just do what he said

1.First download this and unrar it to the root of My Storage as is.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=LMDVA130

2.make sure you have at least 1,2 GB free space on My Storage and copy the file fs.iso from here to the \iso folder.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=5LAOKBYI

3.start haret.exe from the root of My Storage & enjoy the new Froyo.

anything you didnt understand?

also download the update that someone posted between the pages 290 and 320

After unrarring the file to My Storage, then putting the Fs.iso into the iso folder, does the o2b3update go into the root of My storage before running the haret.exe for the first time? And do we use the o2b3update from page 293 post 5849 or the one on page 294 post 5877?

no, there is a .iso file between the pages that you shall copy to the /iso folder.

Dont use the o2b3update, just look for the fr/froyo.iso file.

The one on page 318 post 6345? it is the one split into 3 files for 7z.

yes, and the you extract the files and put it in the /iso folder

hi speedfrog.. does this mean that I will overwrite the first .iso file with the updated one? do I have to download and install both .iso?

Thanks

Guest Speedfrog

no, you only need the latest .iso file

(Im not 100% sure so if this doesnt work, install first with the old .iso file and then with the new .iso file, but most likely it will work to use the new one.)

thank you o.p. for starting this topic! I really want to get android on my omnia i8000 but am waiting until it is simple enough that i can do it. i think it is still to technically advanced for me to get it almost bug-free, but hopefully this thread will show a fool-proof method in the near future. thank you!

Guest lol = ^_^

Installing Android on the O2 is much, MUCH, faster when you use the Froyo bundle by ritchietos. It is also much faster than an ISO installation... And the filesize is A LOT smaller :P

  • 4 months later...

Its not me who made the file so i dont know, but i installed with old .iso file and the with the new.

1. here is a mirror for the first link

2. multiupload links from page 318 in the main thread for the new .iso file

http://www.multiupload.com/QY3Y1SI9N0

http://www.multiupload.com/6O7C3YI7JF

http://www.multiupload.com/TUD0KNLVSF

Sorry, I don't mean to necro this thread, but how do I combine the files from the three links to form one iso file?

Ok since this is "for dummies", I'll post the solution I discovered to my above question.

The files are zipped using a program called "7 zip". Just google that and you can download software to unpack it. Then you'll be left with the "fs.iso" file to put into the iso folder.

Just if anyone else is curious.

This is the Froyo Beta2 iso file? Or it's the old one?
