The trial version will not install on the Mio8380. You sure the trial is signed? I could install most other smartphone.net demos I tried.
Interesting...

Yes, it is signed.

Did you try to install it on an SD card ? (maybe there was not enough available space in the phone ?).

What is the error message ?

Yep, I tried to install it on a Sandisk SD/MMC 64 meg. Any files I can check to show what certs are valid on the phone? Feel free to email me at bradhawthorne.net and I can work with you on testing it.

I'd love to have the answer to this question.

I know how you can check that a CAB file and an .exe or .dll file are signed: On the PC, select the file, right-click and select "properties" in the pop-up, then "Digital Signatures" tab.

The CAB file that you attempet to install should be called "PocketTV_Pro.SIGNED_SMARTPHONE_ARM.CAB" and located in "C:Program FilesMicrosoft ActiveSyncPocketTV_Pro" on your PC.

You can check the signature.

We use a Smartphone certificate issued by GeoTrust.  It says:

CN = GeoTrust Windows Powered Mobile Device CA 2
OU = Compatible with Microsoft Windows Powered Mobile Devices
O = GeoTrust Inc.
C = US

This certificate allows installing the application on locked SPV's.

Mitac bundled a few apps with the phone. Here are the details for the certs for that cab:

CN = VeriSign Authorized Code Signing CA for Microsoft
OU = Compatible with Microsoft Windows Powered Mobile Devices
O = VeriSign, Inc.
C = US

I just picked out a few demos to install from smartphone.net. The OmniGSoft Mini-Jetfighter Demo works. It has the cert:

CN = GeoTrust Windows Powered Mobile Device CA 2
OU = Compatible with Microsoft Windows Powered Mobile Devices
O = GeoTrust Inc.
C = US

Also installed AIM Smart Strippoker Demo:

CN = GeoTrust Windows Powered Mobile Device CA 2
OU = Compatible with Microsoft Windows Powered Mobile Devices
O = GeoTrust Inc.
C = US

Those look just like the cert you have. Don't know why it recognises those certs but not yours.

Yes, they do.

Maybe it's just a problem with the installer.

Can you try to install directly from our CAB file ?

It is located at http://www.mpegtv.co...RTPHONE_ARM.CAB

Hrrrm, just tried that. I put it in the IPSMWindowsStart MenuAccessories directory and ran the cab from the phone and that didn't work either. I'm at a loss as to why it's not working. Mitac technical support refered me to email [email protected] about digital signing problems. He apparently is an engineer for Mitac. You might send him an email to see why it's not working.

Yes, obviously,

-either a standard Geotrust smartphone certificate is not sufficient to run on the Mio

or

-the Mio uses the new Smartphone 2003 software and there is a bug in the installer that prevents *some* signed applications from installing

I emailed the Mitac person you mentionned, let's hope he will be able to help.  I hope someone at MS is reading this thread, too...

I'm dying to get my hands on this.

Is it possible to order from Orange HK (to deliver to the UK) or will some kind soul based in Hong Kong arrange to buy a couple for us eager international customers?

Thanks for the report. Of course, there should be no problem if the phone is unlocked.  But PocketTV Pro is signed, so it is supposed to work also on "locked" phones.

Is your Mio 8380 app unlocked? If not, which one do you have? CECT, Synnex or Orange HK? I can't get it installed on mine.

Did you buy the Mio 8380 unlocked or did you unlock it yourself? Please write up instructions on how to unlock if you did unlock on your own. I know the mxip_oem_3.provxml is the file I need to edit the 4102 value from 0 to 1.

We are Mitac partners, so after receiving locked MIOs, we unlock them using tools provided by Mitac, we signed NDA with them.

I find it disappointing that all SPVs can be unlocked without issue and Mitac has an app to unlock and they put it under NDA. How does one become a Mitac partner?
