Guest gingerninja Posted December 21, 2004 Report Posted December 21, 2004 Last night my C500 changed its ringtone to 'ding-0809' when I go into menu settings/sounds I can change the tone but when I press done it flashes blue but doesn't apply the change. I have to press home to get out of the settings screen and the ringtone remains unchanged. Any ideas anyone? Thanks
Guest Disco Stu Posted December 21, 2004 Report Posted December 21, 2004 That sounds rather like the old partial reset and something is corrupted. It is usually caused by low memory / battery but I've not heard of it happening on the C500. I'm afraid you're lookng at a full hard reset or ROM flashing unless someone knows a better solution. :)
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted December 21, 2004 Report Posted December 21, 2004 Just try a reboot first then a hard reset second I would be reluctant to suggest flashing the ROM at this stage though.
Guest gingerninja Posted December 21, 2004 Report Posted December 21, 2004 Tried reboot already with no joy  Looks like a hard reset then. Can anyone recommend back up software? as I don't fancy re-installing everything manually. Cheers for the quick replys :)
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted December 21, 2004 Report Posted December 21, 2004 The problem with backing up in this situation, is that you may have inadvertently caused the problem by installing a dodgy homescreen or application that may have made alterations in the registry. So using a backup may just recreate the problem. As for applications there is Sprite backup which should be available from www.handango.com
Guest gingerninja Posted December 21, 2004 Report Posted December 21, 2004 Thanks awarner I see what you mean about recreating the fault with backup software. Will do it manually just a bit of a pain though.
Guest benjymous Posted February 3, 2005 Report Posted February 3, 2005 Arrgh - looks like I've got the same problem - I tried changing one of the sounds today only to find that Done button has no effect whatsoever (I don't get any kind of flash) This is on a C500 too, btw I have been registry hacking (I changed the device name, as "SPV_C500" was getting on my nerves, and I tried changing the systemdefault sound to something other than Default.wav) but even after I put the systemdefault sound back to what it was, it still won't let me change the settings. The problem is I haven't changed any of the sounds for ages, so it might have been broken for a long time and I'm only now noticing it I'm a bit reluctant to hard reset though :-(
Guest ga!nusha Posted February 3, 2005 Report Posted February 3, 2005 so why are you ignoring my post??? http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=199953 ????
Guest benjymous Posted February 4, 2005 Report Posted February 4, 2005 (edited) Aha, I found what the problem was in my case - If you have betaplayer installed, and have the "Windows Media Files (ASF, WM, WMV, WMA)" file association ticked, it seems to break the sounds settings page - turn that off again and it'll happily let you save your changes I guess this is a betaplayer bug.. I'll go report it [edit] Reported.. let's see what the betaplayer guys say: http://corecodec.org/tracker/index.php?fun...p_id=9&atid=117 Edited February 4, 2005 by benjymous
Guest ga!nusha Posted February 4, 2005 Report Posted February 4, 2005 tnx benjymous now i dont have to cold boot weekly :D
Guest SilentlyScreaming Posted May 2, 2005 Report Posted May 2, 2005 THANK YOU sooooo much My wife has a C500, and this problem was getting a bit silly, as with the phone in her handbag, she hardly ever heard the phone, as it was stuck on the silly DING ringtone. I changed the setting in Betaplayer, and all is now well. Most, most grateful....
