Verizon i920 Upgrade

I am downloading now...one thing I am wondering...will it blank out My Storage when I do it? I heard when you hard reset from the setting menu it blanks out My storage...that is where my Igo is and that is a big file to transfer back in again...

I just finished downloading it... that took forever!

Hard resetting your phone from the setting menu didn't blank out 'my storage' when I used to flash the i910. When you use the hard button method (e.g. press volume up and lock buttons) on the i920 to perform a hard reset, 'my storage' isn't touched.

I am going to update right now. I will let you know if the VZN update program blanks out 'my storage.'

so does anyone have the word on what this actually does yet? :)

And any word on whether this can be run on win 7 in xp mode?

And I wonder if the i920 updates are similar to what's noted here for the i8910. I know it's symbian, and on a different processor. But being that's it's rolled out at the same time makes it likely that similar issues are being addressed.

http://www.puzi8.com/samsung-will-release-...8910-soon.html/

"Many Samsung Omnia HD i8910 users has been complaining about a lot of the issues in user community. And today, It seems that complaint report has finally paid off. the news from Gsmarena said that Samsung just announced Samsung Omnia HD i8910 users will get an upcoming firmware update that will improve on some of the issues soon. At that same time, the news also said possibly this fireware update will be available in January 2010. And that will brings a bit changes such as an improved browser, with faster user interface, kinetic scrolling, a new graphic engine for better playback."

Probably because I just bricked mine with the old one. And they probably just haven't updated the file yet. It's still the 410 MB one.

I analyzed both files (yesterday and today) with JV16 powertools duplicate file finder, set to 100% identical, and the file posted now is exactly the same file as the first. No changes.

Here is the before and after version info. I don't see any difference at all after the flash.

Well, the phone firmware is updated. The PDA and CSC look to be the same. No change in the WinMo 6.5 release.

Hopefully, this updater contains the FULL firmware, and people more talented than myself can extract it and begin the cooking process. Then this beast will live up to it's full potential!

Well, I guess I got to upgrade mine a day early, but I was actully hoping something changed while they had the file down. I was all set to reflash when I got to the office this morning, but there's no need.

Shemmy, it's not bricked until it won't turn on or charge. If it will try to flash, it can be saved. Try running it on a different computer. Worked on my new phone flawlessly.

It's been running for 20 minutes, and I have the "pink screen." I think my phone is bricked :)

Wow 20 minutes... mine took less than 5 minutes to flash.

Yeah, it should take almost exactly five. Shemmy, did you hard reset before flashing? Curious about those who are having issues and what may be causing them. I didn't hard reset (it didn't say to, but the fresh phone took the flash fine) and used an older computer the first time. It would be nice to know some fail triggers to save others some trouble.

I pulled my storage card, hooked up to my laptop (XP SP3), it connected via activesync, and then I ran the upgrade file. Took less than 10 minutes and ran as smoothly as you could ask for it to.

They've added an Install Guide pdf with the following line:

To download and install Maintenance Release 1 (CK24) containing Qualcomm 1x/EVDO Call Drop Patch

So that is what was fixed in this release.

Well, after trying everything last night from emergency flashing to installing 3rd party sync drivers on my laptop last night I gave up.

After flashing the i910 over 100 times, the FIRST time I try to flash the i920 using Verizons upgrade software my phone is bricked!

Same issue as most people here... hard reset my phone, took out my SD card, ran the software in compatibility mode (running on Windows 7 Ultimate x64), followed the instructions exactly... nothing.

remembered the issue with flashing and UDML, ran it again and unchecked 'Allow USB Connections' under connection settings, phone started flashing... stuck at 31%... waited over 10 minutes... still stuck at 31%

tried various recovery methods (won't get into it right now). I really think this may have something to do with x64 systems. Who else on here was running the update on x64 Windows and had this issue? It is weird though, I flashed the VZN update for the i910 when it came out on the same system without problems. I was running the Windows 7 Ultimate x64 Beta back then. Like Snow said, anyone who is having issues with the update should post a little about what they did and what they used to figure out exactly why the VZN update has failed.

I'm sorry this has happened to you, but for anyone else who might be trying this the installation instructions are clear that it must be run in Vista or XP x32.

Check here: http://www.samsung.com/us/i920/update/

There are lots of things that I run in an XP Virtual Machine or in XP Compatability mode on my Windows 7 machine, but I've seen too many phones bricked to try this on anything but an XP machine.

By the way, there doesn't seem to be any need to do a hard reset prior to performing the upgrade.

My phone was bricked. I should have a new one tomorrow via FedEx. And for the record, I did hard reset before I flashed. Maybe I won't flash the new one at all, since I haven't had any phone issues.

Just got back from the VZN store... One thing that I love about Verizon is their PDA insurance/warranty, I walked in with a bricked i920 and walked out with a brand new one in 20 minutes. They even asked me if I wanted to stick with the same phone or get a different one. :)

I did ask them if they could update my phone in the store since I didn't want to risk it again myself and I guess they don't do that for PDA's, kinda weird.

Oh well, I will just stick to the base software.. for now.
