Guest Macker1973 Posted January 28, 2004 Report Posted January 28, 2004 I have come across a similar problem with my E200 and a 256mb Scandisk card. What happens is I can browse to some folders though not always view their contents. Sometimes I can see their contents but I notice that the icons for exes are all replaced with a default one. When I double click and exe like this I get a cannot run due to secruity error message. I can recreate this problem by starting smartexplorer, browsing to a folder and highlighting a file (not selecting the file). Then simply shutdown the phone by holding in the power button. Then restart your phone straight away, start smart explorer and then browse to the same folder you where looking when you shutdown. No subfolders are displayed and the links to files are not correct. If the then shutdown my phone and remove the battery for at least 15 secs then restart the phone the problem goes away. I wonder is there some sort of new caching being done in the background and if so I presume its in the phones memory. Of course this leads to the question howm much memory does this use up. I personally think the bluetooth addition to explorer is not much to write home about mainly due to Microsofts limited implementation of a the bluetooth stack. Though the implementation does work even with these severe limitations so well done the binary lads. Overall I think smart explorer 2 is a must have for smartphone with and more than worth the $8 registration fee.
Guest peekie Posted January 28, 2004 Report Posted January 28, 2004 one of the reasons this newer version was later than planned was the upcoming orange update ,which they stated on the website so maybe some of the above problems will be gone , thats when you get the update first in the uk and going by orange nl xmas in holland

I just tried on my E200. I used a Panasonic SD Card (no SanDisk at my office, will try again at home). No problem at all. I wonder if the problem has been fixed in the Orange beta update. Would be fine. And thanks for you nice msg
Guest Simon Desser Posted January 29, 2004 Report Posted January 29, 2004 So, am I the only one having problems reading SD card? (why does that always happen to ME!! ) I'm afraid I'm having problems too  My card is a Lexar 512Mb, it has ALWAYS worked fine with previous versions of Smart Explorer, and works fine with other file explorer apps, but with this new version of Smart Explorer, I'm having all sorts of trouble :D Occassionally, it displays a lot of nonsense, but mostly, it randomly shows folders as empty (when they're not) and hence won't let you browse the files within that folder :?: Thanks SimonSmart Explorer 2.jpgSmart Explorer 1.jpg
Guest davo141 Posted January 29, 2004 Report Posted January 29, 2004 hey, just wondering.. from those screen shots, what the windows icon is for ?? next to the power icon. also, this is a great program! thanks very much, works well with my p900 and p800
Guest jacoch Posted January 29, 2004 Report Posted January 29, 2004 Simon> Is there a way you can reproduce that. Does it happen all the time or only after doing some actions? We are investigating, but as we didn't change a single line of code in these functions, it's very very strange that it doesn't occur with previous version of Smart Explorer. Will try to downgrade to previous rom to check if we can reproduce that problem. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Guest Simon Desser Posted January 29, 2004 Report Posted January 29, 2004 Jacoch, it seems to be totally random :? I just used it again, it was working fine, I quit the app. and went straight back in, and it then showed "My Documents" as empty again  I opened another File Explorer app. and everything was there. I then had to remove the SD card, and replace it for it to work again with Smart Explorer, even though another File Explorer app could access all the files :D Thanks again for all your help.
Guest peekie Posted January 29, 2004 Report Posted January 29, 2004 one problem i have found with the new version is sometimes when you have used the programme and exit and then say try to play a game which is on the sd card it comes up with programme not found ,reboot the telephone and it works ( the game ) also ive just hard resetted my E200 and am busy making shortcuts to the start menu from the sd card so i do not have to install all the games ect but after a while you get double the folder on the sd card or an empty folder ( which it is not ). iam a registered owner and have reinstalled the older version and will wait until the next version comes out, i hope the list of problems ive stated help to iron out and make this app the best again
Guest James Posted January 29, 2004 Report Posted January 29, 2004 hey, just wondering.. from those screen shots, what the windows icon is for ?? next to the power icon. also, this is a great program! thanks very much, works well with my p900 and p800 its a remote viewer called RemoteDSP.... http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/res...tedsp_eula.mspx
Guest peekie Posted January 29, 2004 Report Posted January 29, 2004 ive just had a major breakdown due to the new version all my photos were lost from the sd card which became corrupted when using the new version i tryed installing the older version but it was too late all my files were lost even the sd card in my laptops sd card reader was unable to copy the files over .the only solution was to format the sd card and the phone had to be hard reseted , i think as so many people have problems with this version it should be removed until the bugs can be ironed out :? :? :?
Guest darkeye74 Posted January 30, 2004 Report Posted January 30, 2004 just had same problem as peekie lost all pictures and videos luckly id backed it up a week ago so not to much lost had to format card though my card is a maxell 128 mb sd reinstalled previous version for time being pls sort out soon looks great with new features
Guest maxh2003 Posted January 30, 2004 Report Posted January 30, 2004 Me too. I'm using an E200, and some time this morning my OGG files vanished - all 150Mb of them. Couldn't see them through my PC using ActiveSync either; the directory was shown to be empty. I did note that although the files seemed to be gone, my 256Mb Lexar memory card still only had 20Mb free so the space taken up by the OGG files was still allocated. Following Macker1973's suggestion (thanks, Macker1973), I shut down the phone, then removed the battery for a full minute. Then I put the battery back and started the phone up. Without using SmartExplorer, I then connected using ActiveSync, and all my files are back again. I can even see them in SmartExplorer v2 though I too am now inclined to go back to version 1, and bluetooth file transfer be damned. I have *no recollection* of ever seeing this on my E200 while I was using version 1. As an additional note, not only did my OGG files vanished, but a number of files in the root of the card became *duplicated* - I had two copies of (for example) "Teststring.zip" - both with the same filename and details. When I connected using ActiveSync, my PC showed the same thing - duplicate *identical* files in the root of the storage card. Again, this problem has fixed itself as a result of the process above... And as a further note, rebooting my phone *didn't* solve the problem. Only switching off and pulling the battery for 30 seconds cleared the fault for me. The only programs I've used significantly today are SmartExplorer and Mobipocket Reader. Can Macker1973 or drblow - or anyone else experiencing this problem - confirm they *don't* have Mobipocket installed? In theory at least, it might not be SmartExplorer that's at fault. :edit: - FWIW I'm using "Microsoft ActiveSync Version 3.7.1 (Build 3244)" and, of course, the retail E200 ROM (Version 4.20.0 build 13288).
Guest drblow Posted January 30, 2004 Report Posted January 30, 2004 The problems i had were EXACTLY the same as Simon Desser has also reported.
Guest jacoch Posted January 30, 2004 Report Posted January 30, 2004 We have added a warning on our server regarding SD cards. We have not been able to reproduce the problem yet. We have ordered a Lexar SD card and will revert our E200 to the official ROM. Does the problem only occurs with Lexar cards? (we are testing with SanDisk and Panasonic cards). We apologize for the problems and are really really sorry for the lost files  . We (5 persons) have tested carefully this beta version and didn't face such troubles. It occurs on functions that we even didn't change. We will do our best to solve this issue asap. Thanks to all for your feedback.
Guest maxh2003 Posted January 30, 2004 Report Posted January 30, 2004 Hi jacoch... First let me say this: you don't owe anyone an apology IMO. SmartExplorer - plus the optional registration/payment system - is utterly indispensible and has been since it first came out. The fact that registration is optional makes it an explorer-for-the-masses. So personally I'm just grateful for the one-year-plus of happy, trouble-free usage. My phone would be a doorstop without SE and SP Task Manager. I also suggest that it's yet to be proved that it's a bug in SmartExplorer; it could well be related to the OS or, indeed, to the vagaries of the E200. I note that everyone seeing this problem claims to be using an E200. I also note that at least one person is seeing the fault on a SanDisk card (see earlier in the thread) - so it's not confined to Lexar card... maybe... Plus, all the files that have appeared to be missing, have reappeared subsequently. So I would say that SE is only *giving the impression* that files are being deleted, rather than actually deleting them... again, maybe? Anyway, in case this is helpful, I've found a possibly-related problem in SE v2. Often - but not always, maybe 50% of the time - if I: i) run SE; ii) navigate to a directory inside the Storage Card; iii) pop out my Lexar 256Mb card, then iv) press "refresh" in SE then quite often, SE will hang (with "Calculating" at the bottom of the screen). When this happens, I have to pull the battery - not even the home or power buttons work and SE never seems to return. Oddly enough, when I then start the phone up, all my OGGs are 'gone', both through SE and through ActiveSync. Pulling the battery for a minute seems to fix the problem until it next occurs - I haven't actually Moreover it's always my OGG directory that appears to be empty - Storage CardMy Documents has never shown a missing-files problem even though I have maybe 70 JPEGs in there. Trying it with my old 128Mb TwinMOS card *has* shown the "calculating" problem - which I think may occur when you insert the memory card and then refresh SE "too soon" - i.e. immediately. I haven't yet seen a problem with the files on that card - it has about 8 WMVs and no sub-directories. Interestingly, if I make the problem occur using my Lexar card, then replace it with the TwinMOS card, I can see all the files on that card that I expect. Then I put the Lexar card back in - and my OGG files are *still* missing! Hope some of the above is helpful, + good luck
Guest dinoalbert Posted January 30, 2004 Report Posted January 30, 2004 arrrrgh! it happened to me too!!! With this latest version, I cant seem to find my files in my Sandisk 256 SD card! The folders are empty. :D okay I too followed Macker1973's suggestion, reinstalled the previous version of SmartExplorer, and everythings back to normal now
Guest jacoch Posted January 30, 2004 Report Posted January 30, 2004 We have finally been able to reproduce this bug. But only by restoring the original E200 rom! So it's sure, it's a bug of the SD card driver as it's impossible to do the same with the E200 beta update. We have played hours with our card (including refreshing folders after removing the card) and never got a problem on rom 1.60.0.0. Hope this update will come out soon. But I don't understand why there isn't any trouble with SE 1.0b5. It should have exactly the same problem, except if the driver misbehave when having too many requests (new version does more access to folders and files, as it calcultes size of the highlighted item). We will continue to investigate to be sure and will add a warning in next beta about SD card access.
Guest lsuhe Posted January 31, 2004 Report Posted January 31, 2004 I had the same things start to happen last tuesday after installing the lastest version. I've got the original 2003 OS, and a 256Mb SanDisk card. I had duplicated entries, and not being able to run programs as there was security warnings, or it looked like it couldn't read the SD card as the start menu icons were all the default prog ones. It hasn't happened since, but I too had to take the battery off for 30 secs to cure it... Keep up the good work and lets hope that this gets sorted. Cheers Chris
Guest badboy4life Posted January 31, 2004 Report Posted January 31, 2004 Its been running fine for me but then i removed the SD card last night, re-inserted it this morning and then all the files disappeared. I did a quick off and on and was bcak to normal. SD Card:SanDisk 256
Guest Macker1973 Posted February 2, 2004 Report Posted February 2, 2004 Maxh2003 I don't have Mobipocket Reader on my phone and I have no such problem with Smartexplorer version 1. It hasn't happened on my phone for a while now. Quitting smart explorer when you are not using instead of having it running in the background seems to help.
Guest Macker1973 Posted February 3, 2004 Report Posted February 3, 2004 If this is a problem with the OS or SD card drivers how come we don't have a problem with smart explorer version 1?
Guest jacoch Posted February 5, 2004 Report Posted February 5, 2004 If this is a problem with the OS or SD card drivers how come we don't have a problem with http://smartphone.MoDaCo.com/viewtopic.php?t=55367>Smart Explorer version 1? We are not sure yet. But new version makes more accesses to the SD card driver, as it get the size of each file/folder that is highlighted. So it's possible that the problem only occurs because of the number of requests. We are actually testing a new beta that has the status bar disabled. Except that new feature, nothing has been changed in Smart Explorer functions that handle basic explorer features (viewing, copy, paste, etc...). And this problem doesn't occur on SPV E100 for example. It's possible that we make this dev version public, to get more feedback from users.
Guest prody Posted February 10, 2004 Report Posted February 10, 2004 Ok, I have an O2 Xphone (must b working the same as E200) with an Iproc 128 MB card (came with phone) and the same thing just happened. All programs linked to storage card not working anymore. Card seems empty. I've tried the battery thing but doesn't work. Ill try the activesync related problem solvers tomorrow (since I have a mac at home  ). Anyway this is just to warn Xphone users.
Guest TigerNet Posted February 11, 2004 Report Posted February 11, 2004 Nice application, but...I have a problem with the bluetooth function...I have received from a device, but when I try to send, the devices list is empty...when I look through the phone's bluetooth discovery process, the device IS discovered... Any ideas...
Guest Macker1973 Posted February 11, 2004 Report Posted February 11, 2004 This problem is still a bit erratic and turning of the power and removing the battery does not always fix the problem. However if I remove the SD card and put it back in hey presto. It seams as if access to the SD card becomes locked.
