Well if it is such a close relationship, maybe we should get something sorted :?: Its doing us all no favours sitting here and complaining........:?:

Right! I'm there!

I have emailed the BBC Watchdog programme. The bulk of my complaint is the e200 buzzing speaker (& I included links to the polls on this forum where 60+% of people said they had a buzzing speaker), but I also included some details about this thread & the battery and Bluetooth issues.

Maybe if they get enough emails from people at this forum all complaining about the same thing, then they may actually do something to help us!?

Heres the link -

contact Watchdog

Go on, you know it makes sense! 8)

i feel sorry for Paul, yes he has got close relations, but all said and done paul was the brains behind this site,,,,,its here to help and advise, i'm sure he is as frustrated as the rest, dont blame him for any of this mess with the E200.After all he doesnt work for orange, and i bet he's tried everything he possibly can.

Absolutely!

There is no need for Paul or any other moderators to feel anything about complaints being made about Orange. There may well be close ties between Modaco & network providers etc - but that should in no way infringe upon any member of this forum making a valid complaint about any products.

It would reflect very poorly on Orange if they were seen to be applying any pressure to the moderators of this forum to quell complaints. Afterall, the internet is the last great bastion of free speech, is it not!!??

& lets face it, if there are indeed 'close ties' between this forum & Orange, it hasn't exactly done anybody any good, now has it?? If Mr. Orange was even still around to answer complaints like this, then perhaps users might feel that at least the lines of communication to the company were open. However, I can't remember ever seeing a post from the elusive Mr. Orange regarding any of the e200 problems. In fact, his disappearance from the forum seemed to me to coincide with the release of (& subsequent flood of complaints about) the e200.

I have said many times before that I think it's a terrible shame Orange did not use the opportunity of this forum to the full - Mr. Orange could have made Orange the foremost company for smartphone support by using this forum & the efforts of the community, to really push smartphone development (& bug fixing!!) - & in doing so I feel would have scored Orange masses of brownie points in the customer percetion stakes. That however, completely backfired - & if Orange aren't smart enough to pick up on & use the power of this forum/community - then I think we should do all we can to use that power to our own advantage.

I am more than happy to be involved or even lead a concerted and united effort to raise the issues we have but for me the absolute key is to present a coherent, accurate and robust argument. It will not be enough for 1000 people to all say "it's crap"! We need to get our act together and compose a rational argument.

So...how do we want to play it? This forum is great for getting people on board, but it can only catch the people that look at it. To be most effective, and in order to properly represent the complaints we have, there needs to be a way of catching as many views as possible - if Watchdog, or whoever, get hold of this there'll be one shot at getting things sorted. My wish is that it's done properly.

It's good to see that I seem to have revived some fight in people :)

:) :D

I don't think I've got a 'TV' kind of face m8!! :D

I don't really know if it is necessary for this kind of 'coherent argument' kind of stuff!? All I have done is registered my views about a product/company with a TV show! The only reference to this forum was made to show that I was not alone in making a complaint, & that the issues I raised had been discussed by other people. I don't really think it's fair to use the forum for anything other than the sharing of information amongst the community - which is exactly what we are doing!!

I popped the link to watchdog, simply because I was sharing information about what I had done with my fellow modacoists :D . & obviously because the more complaints they recieve about a particular issue, the more likely it is they would pursue it.

In order to get full forum support, we would probably need a petition put together as a sticky, which would obviously have to be a decision made by the moderators. I'm sure if they felt that it was appropriate, they would do that - but I don't really think it IS appropriate for the moderators of a smartphone forum to be seen to be rallying the troops against a particular network provider - know what I mean!?

& I don't think anybody should have a problem with that, or expect any different. That way we are not putting any pressure or undue stress on the forum/moderators, or doing anything which may negatively affect the reputation of the forum, so there is no need for anybody at modaco to get upset about it!

Also, I think it's worth bearing in mind that while we are all suffering from similar problems with the e200, there would be a lot of difference of opinion on things if there was some kind of en-mass complaint - e.g. the buzzing speaker thing - some people seem not to have it, or don't mind that much, or just think its too bassy - you get the picture.

Personally I think it's better approached on an individual basis (although, if everybody sends them a link to this thread that might be worth something  ) and if any of us gets a call back from John Stapleton (?? :D ) then we can all get together then, to formulate our attack!

Hi Chaps,

Can't help with any national campaign, but could on a more local level. Most BBC local radio stations have consumer affairs programmes, and will often take up people's cases with companies not providing the levels of service you expect. I work with a number of these stations, mostly in East Anglia. If there's an individual out there who wants to, I can arrange for someone to call you about a feature on the E200. Consumers still not happy with a product after returning it several times is the kind of thing they like to get their teeth into, though the consumer would need to be in their listener area. Anyone in Norfolk, Cambridgeshire or Northamptonshire interested?

Its abvious from this post that people are getting a bit miffed off with all the issues, as individuals we have the right to lodge are complaints with watchdog or whoever. The most amazing thing about this is, is that ORA have been so quiet, maybe a suttle reminder (there are now complaints being posted with watchdog etc) might actually get them to wake up and smell the coffee so to speak.

I cant imagine ORA being in a postion to defend themselves should this and many other issues remain unsolved.........

I think the credibility of this site will always remain solid and intact, i personally would be lost without it, god, i can even advise people these days, 12 months ago i didnt have a clue,,,thanks to everyone who is part of this community!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lo All i posted in another topic that i have a number for orange that will get you through to the CE office and it's helped several members of this forum to get there phones sorted, it may be worth getting a list togeather names and complaints and calling him ??

let me know !

Guest A.Hughes

It may be worthwhile letting them know that some members (dont know how many) have actually contacted BBC's watchdog,,,,,,,,,,,, the CE might want to take appropiate action and avoid big blushes,,,,,myself, i think that they have more than ample time to sort things out,,,,hey we all need a reality check sometimes,,,,its good for the soul.

My only question to that office would be, where is the upgrade to sort all these issues out!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone thought about the offer from Russellh? I could try Alan Beswick on GMR, but me thinks he will say that what we are doing is the right thing anyway,,,wonder whether he's got a smartphone!!!!!!!!!

I'm in London, so not the right areas - but have no problems whatsoever with speaking to someone on radio about it. I manage a hospital radio station in my spare time, so radio holds no worries for me at all. If I get to go to the studio I'd enjoy it too.

So far I'm on the 4th E200 and they've all buzzed. One forgot the time and date too. Every courier has bought me different stuff than I was told to expect - a whole boxed kit twice when it should have just been the phone, charger and battery, or on another occasion just the handset and nothing else - which turns out to have been a reconditioned one sent by mistake!

A courier even turned up with everything, wanted everything in return which I wasn't expecting, so I went back in to unplug the cradle etc. I came out a minute later and he drove off shouting he couldn't wait any longer! I kicked off at Orange that I'd waited in and he had to come back, they can't do that so they made sure I wouldn't be charged for the non-delivery and gave me an extra £13 on top. Someone else delivered it the next day.

Now I'm gobsmacked - I've been told that if you return a phone within 7 days you get a new one, which I have been doing, even though I've been told you get 28 days. But it turns out the 28 days starts with your contract, after this they only give you a reconditioned phone. Not after 28 days with one handset, when it might go wrong, but after the contract started - i.e. my upgrade.

So if my 4th phone is also crap (and the one call I've made so far does buzz...) then they will only replace it with a reconditioned one. The upshot being they have totally failed to send me a working phone in four goes and they go "tough have a reconditioned one instead". I told the guy who told me that this was absolutely ridiculous and if this one is no good then I expect nothing but a new one instead.

I mean really - they send me rubbish and then after 28 days they send me reconditioned rubbish? How can that be at all fair? Why shouldn't I get a new phone that works rather than a reconditioned one? Who's the inconvenienced one here, them or me - who can't make decent phone calls as I can't hear them and they can barely hear me, who spends one day each week charging his phone for 16 hours as instructed to with a new battery, it's not worth configuring the phone because I've only got it for a week before it's returned, I spend 15 mins each week complaining and arranging that despite trying a range of calls for a week it doesn't work properly, and then has to stay in for a courier...

Now they've got my contract upgraded they don't need to send me something that's new and works? Yeah, I'll tell people how crap they are. I'm disgusted of London.

I also feel that this phone is in breach of UK trading standards. If the faults arent all fixed in the next update serious action needs to be taken. Orange have released a phone that simply wasnt ready for release, and now O2 have seemingly done the same thing, probably just a matter of time before we get loads of XPhone users complaining too.

@ DancingMatt -

m8 - I know EXactly how you feel! I'm on replacement no. 5 - and for this one (whcih I got on Tuesday) I demanded a new one instead of reconditioned, along the very same lines as you are talking about. Took me a week, 2 coaches & 3 supervisors to get it, and you know what - it buzzes worse than my last reconditioned one!! :x

Whadda you do?? :?

I've had enough. I phoned CS immediately obvioulsy to report my 6th faulty phone. BUt I told them not to bother courtesy calling me back in a week to tell me they haven't fixed it yet. I'll just wait a while for the update.

Really, I think the greatest source of frustration for me is the utter silence from Orange about this problem, when this forum (the single biggest & most viewed smartphone forum) is screaming out with complaints about it.

The simple facts are that in any given situation you the consumer have thr right to return any goods which you recieve that are faulty, & get a working replacement, & if that can't be done, then an equal value & similar other replacement. But you are tied into a 12 month contract before recieving the actual handset, so any way you look at it, to return the phone & cancel the contract is going to be a problem.

Orange are unable to offer me a similar or equivalent different model replacement, coz the e200 is the only phone running SP2003. This is clearly a catch 22 situation that is crap for the user. The one that pays a considerable amount of money each month for the use of this faulty phone.

I've had all the SPV's, so I know from experience that they are bug ridden pieces of ... em, sorry - phones :) & that as long as modaco is still going, then if our phones can't get fixed, at least we can bitch about it with sympathetic others!!

But I would feel so much better about the whole thing if there was just one statement from Orange, just one acknowledgement of the fact that a large amount of smartphone users put up with a lot of hassle (which they continue to pay for at the same rate as people who are not experiencing prolongued use of a faulty handset) - and do so, I feel, out of an enthusiasm for the platform, you know!? & the community spirit & all ... am I wrong?? :D

No. That was a simple answer lol. I totally agree with this topic the main issues of T9, bluetooth, battery and the £"£%&^"%^! buzzing (although only noticable on mine when ringing orange services ?) must be sorted out to comply with UK trading standards. Hell, have you seen how fast people like nvidia correct faults with 3D cards? Why can't orange do the same?

Guest lowbug

the best bet is watchdog with Micro$oft and Orange in the same room so there is no room for ' err not my problem' which is the line they always use... :)

I think what I actually meant there was "the one that pays a considerable amount of money each month to beta test a phone for Orange".

& I am totally sick of this whole Orange blaming MS, or HTC stuff! Screw getting anybody in the room with Orange - I bought a phone from Orange, that is branded with an Orange logo!! How much more proof do I need that it's an Orange product. If you search the orange website for SPV's, they are under a category called 'Orange'. But of course, in the event of a problem, it's not Orange's fault, it's somebody else.

I mean ... :?

Steve Riches, presenter of the consumer affairs show on BBC Radio Cambridgeshire is interested in taking up a case with Orange over the fact that the SPV E200 doesn't do what marketing material says it does. This could be considered false advertising, and would make a good on air feature. However, it would be more useful if a disgruntled consumer in Cambridgeshire were able to come forward. I can't do it, as I'm connected with the programme and I don't live in the county! You probably wouldn't need to speak on air, but simply to provide the programme with a list of gripes for them to take up with Orange. Any offers?

Damn I wish I had read this thread before I went and upgraded to the e200.

Damn.

Did I say that? I'm going to have to get thousands of chargers and put them everwhere aren't I?
