MPx200 discontinued by Orange?

Hmmm - I think the XDA II is next for me, once I have worked out the best way to come by it.

The M1000 is out as Orange insist on Business Customers only, which is a HUGE mistake, and given the poor Cust.  Serv. Orange have shown me over my E200 issues, I see absolutely no valid reason to stay with them, so I will be off after four months with them.

I coudn't agree more!!! So I sent back my E200, that buzzed, for a full refund. Lowered my Orange tariff to the lowest £13/month and gave it to my mum to use.

Today I ordered an XDA II from Uplands.co.uk for £139.99 !

Was using the O2 price match on Orange, so picked the same tariff.

SCREW ORANGE. Their customer service is the worst I have ever come across. I made sure to tell them when the guy asked me why I was lowering my tariff so much, that I was moving to O2 because Orange wouldn't sell me an SPV M1000.

Another disgruntled ex-Orange customer.

I think if anyone got hold of the comparative sales figures of the E200 and the MPx200, then this thread might be viewed differently to a ‘oooh when’s the MPx220’ coming style thread. Let's get into some Big Ron style speculation...

Against all the odds, the MPx200 has been a success. I've read many magazines with the words 'best smartphone by far' emblazened across the article. This, for a phone with an outdated OS, no camera and no BT. Many, myself included berated the MPx200 when it came out for these omissions, but hey, we were WRONG - people love the build quality, love the stability. ! Plus, it was the first mainstream flip smartphone, which seems to be the vogue now.

Against all the odds, the E200 has been a bit of a turkey. I've seen a trickle of articles in magazines, some positive but nothing along the lines of 'best ever'. Who needs to be reminded about the battery life, joystick, T9 problems etc.? I think that Orange expected their own branded phone to be much more of a success.

If you are Orange, are you really that eager to get the MPx220 into your stores? Hell, are you really that bothered about supply of the MPx200 being knackered? It might even give E200 sales a boost.

I'm going for a ciggie on the grassy knoll, who's coming?

I can't see any logical reason for the MPx being withdrawn other than because of an imminent software update.

Also bear in mind that the MPx has just been released on the other networks, running the 2002 software- so a 2003 update exclusive to Orange would be a pretty sweet selling point for one of their "Signature" phones...

And re: "end of life" reason in the initial post, does anyone honestly believe that a mobile phone (being sold exclusively on a 12 month contract...) with no apparent hardware problems only has a shelf life of a couple of months?

Perhaps this has been caused by Orange receiving a confirmation from moto that a camera for Mpx200 won't be released. This means that mpx200 users aren't going to start using MMS, meaning Orange aren't going to get thre revenue from that, so would rather sell their customers a phone which will get them photo messaging (like the E200).

I was bored so i called orange general enquiries today to ask why the mpx wasn't on there website.

the guy i spoke to said that they where recalled from sale due to "software issues" and "that they had a lot of returns" i asked if there was going to be another smartphone replacement and he said they don't know untill march. we did joke about why they recalled from sale the mpx when the E200 had more faults, a good time was had by all

in reply to the signature phone issue, the mpx is a signature phone, and orange has not fallen out with moto, it has just released the v600. hope this helps with some speculation.

Hi Guys.

I have seen specs for the Motorola MPX300. Not due to until then of the year though.

Not sure if I can post the info here though but does or will have built in WIFI.

I have also seen some photos of this model too.

The MPX220 should be out early March.

Cheers

Steve

Now, if it's true that it's got WiFi (plus the features of the MPx220), it will surely be the best phone on the market.

The joy of speculation! First it was the e100, then the e200, then the mpx200 and now the mpx220!

Brody and /you start saving their pennies/cents...

I got my MPX200 for free on a well-priced Orange tariff (200 anytime any network, plus 500 sms for £30 p/m) so I don't plan on buying one - I always shop around for the good deal come upgrade time. If the MPX200 is now unavailable and summat goes wrong with mine in the meantime, I guess Orange will do the decent thing and replace it with something Motorola-ish and similar like the, ahem, MPX220 perhaps? It's a great pity though. Besides the poor battery life, I have had no real bad probs with my phone (except when I fncked about with it and installed unsigned apps that I didn't know the consequences of) - some of you guys have written some great aps/emulators and I'll have to start all over with a Win2003 phone  (OK, I'm finished now)

I love the "frontslash" you command, it fools everyone!

there is no way that is an ms smartphone (windows ce maybe, but doubtfull), microsoft have very strict design rules, which include the two softkeys, home and back buttons and screen res must be 176 x 220, none of which that new Moto phone have

Haven't had time to read previous posts but the orange shop in the leeds uni union no longer has mpx200 on the shelves. Then again I did have a go at them for advertising it as Smartphone 2003, should have bought one and sued em
