Guest muza Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 Anyone know where i can get hold of this app Please EDIT : sorry found it
Guest muza Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 in testing this app i have found that it will crash the phone if you try to access storage card apps straight away. Would it not be better if the app came up and said STORAGE DEVICE STARTING waited for a tested period say 10 seconds then said STORAGE DEVICE STARTED. that way it wouldn't allow you to crash the phone by opening apps too quick. Or maybe even a tricky progress bar. Otherwise the app works it stops access to the card, not sure whether it saves power yet, However taking my sd card out does save power, i have tested that. I will test to see if the app saves me any battery life tonight Thanks for APP :)
Guest marcf78 Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 Mr Magoo it would be fine if the SD card was turned on when puting the Smartphone on the craddle
Guest MrMagoo Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 Mr Magoo it would be fine if the SD card was turned on when puting the Smartphone on the craddle That would mean having the app running continuously just to save you pressing a couple of keys... I'm sure I can find more interesting things to do - especially if we are gonna get a rom update soon which fixes some of the battery life problems.... Let me just say maybe...

I can't see that it is worth extra coding just to make you wait 10 seconds before you use an app Anyway - my opinion is that you should really be asking the makers of whatever app is crashing your phone to make it so their app doesn't do that! All I am doing is stopping and starting some storage - how other apps handle it is really up to them.
Guest marcf78 Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 Bad sound in noisy environment with the new rom, I prefer my old rom with your good apps MrMagoo !!!!
Guest lifesuk Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 i thing the battery life depends on how many apps installed in the SD card or if run the app from the SD card i tried just put the MP3s into my SD card, i can tell that the battery is exatly the same if without the SD card anyway, it a great app :)
Guest ex_zero Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 Ok, i've tried this app, and using a battery monitor utility, it is still sapping the same amount of power using the app / not using this app with the SD card in.
Guest muza Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 Tested this app last night When i take my sd card out it saves a considerable amount of battery power as tested the other night. Left it down stairs all night with no sd card fully charged and when i came down 12 hours later the it was still full. However With the storage card disabled via this app and a fully charged battery my battery suffered the same drainage as usal only 2 bars left in the morning. The app does what it says it disables the storage card but something to do with the storage card is still draining power. It physically being in there seems to drain power. Thanks for the app anyway, its well written and does what it says but unfortunatly in my case it does Not save any battery power.
Guest Toyota-F1.com Posted March 18, 2004 Report Posted March 18, 2004 My thread will probably be of interest to people using this thread. http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=104626 It's a Battery Report for the Orange SPV3, and there's interesting information there. Let me know what you think (on that thread please!). Also, if you'd like me to test this applications, and I get quite a few responses, I shall do that! Thankyou!
Guest Toyota-F1.com Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 I have made some very interesting findings, and have posted them here: http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=104626 .
Guest timothee Posted April 28, 2004 Report Posted April 28, 2004 As I hear some negative sounds about the sound loudness after upgrading the ROM of the SPV E200, I haven't upgraded mine yet. Instead of that, I tried this nice SD card off/on tool. Maybe a little premature to conclude that it works perfectly after one little test, but after 9 hours in idle/standby mode my phone still shows 3 of 4 bars! The battery capacity went from almost 100% (98-99%) at the start to approx. 72% after 9 hours. So, approx. a quarter of the total capacity is consumed. I don't know if it is realistic to multiply this by 4, but if so the battery should endure almost 36 hours in standby mode (still not that much if you compare to other phones). Of course it will be less if you call during this time. So...after one shocking experience with a battery almost empty (4% left) after approx. 12 hours in which I didn't call but only listened mp3's from my SD card for 2,5 hours I think this tool is helpful to anyone not wanting to upgrade the ROM but only wanting a solution for the extreme power consumption of the E200. P.S. Bluetooth is always disabled at my phone, so the power consumption IS due to the SD card controller (since some persons wanted to doubt this).
Guest scotlandspv Posted May 12, 2004 Report Posted May 12, 2004 Hi there, New to this whole smartphone deal! I downloaded the cab file - being still a bit daft with my SPV, how do I run the file on it to load it onto the start menu???? Cheers!

If you want the SD card being disabled at startup, just put a shortcut in the /storage/windows/startup folder (via Active Sync's browsing button or the windows explorer).
Guest hardcore Posted May 18, 2004 Report Posted May 18, 2004 Please test battery life using this and report back so we can evaluate it's usefulness... MrMagoo, people, Great tool. I have just installed it last night. It works perfectly on my Xphone (Qtek ROM). The tool can turn on/off my SD card without my having to reinsert it. Before: about 5% battery drain in 1 hour After (SD off): about 5% battery drain in 3 hours! From what I can tell, turning off the SD card using this tool can double or triple the standby battery life. GREAT WORK MrMagoo! Now some requests for improvements in case you have time: 1. Make this a home screen plugin, showing the SD card status and clickable to turn on/off the SD card. 2. Make the Info menu disappear by itself - the one that says "Storage Card stopped/started".

And I can certainly change the info message...
Guest skaramanga Posted May 20, 2004 Report Posted May 20, 2004 Seems a bit strange, but on my E200 the battery life is terrible if I have a SD card inserted at all, with SD card turned on or off. If I remove it altogether my battery lasts for ages longer!! :?
Guest fr33nury Posted May 25, 2004 Report Posted May 25, 2004 has anyone tried defraging the sd card?maybe my phone"s different but i found out by chance..after defraging the card(i'm using scandisk 512mb)..,my mpx200 battery life improves drastically.. se my previous post: http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=108083 pls try and post results
