Guest shadamehr Posted March 9, 2004 Report Posted March 9, 2004 We know the deadline - first quarter 2004. Which means by the end of March. But ignore it. Call me cynical, but it WON'T come out in the timescale promised. And when it does, I am pleased to say it SHOULD fix the BIG issues of Battery life and bluetooth, and MAYBE the buzzing. But you know all those hundreds of other important and rediculous faults we all posted on here for the benefit of Orange, to make life easier for them in compiling the list, whilst taking effort on our part...? Well, forget them. Cos rest assured, in most cases, that's exactly what Orange will have done. Forget them...
Guest Simon Desser Posted March 9, 2004 Report Posted March 9, 2004 We know the deadline - first quarter 2004.On the 10th of December, Mr Orange said:- Guys, Thanks for all of your early feedback on the E200, as you know I was recently in Taiwan and all of these were discussed. As always, we're working on updates to continually improve products like this and we are working with HTC to prepare an update for the E200. This should iron out as many of these niggles as possible. Expect the update in early 04. Keep the feedback coming in . Mr Orange I'm not sure where this "1st quarter of 2004" came from :?: :? I could be wrong, but I don't recall that coming from Mr Orange, or anywhere official :?:
Guest shadamehr Posted March 9, 2004 Report Posted March 9, 2004 I can't in fairness recall the source either now, but I can sate that WAS however the date mentioned often enough though.

I could be wrong, but I don't recall that coming from Mr Orange, or anywhere official :?: Dumidum, who was one of the first along with Paul to run with this story, indicates this date in this very thread Page 2 or so - but that's not specific enough. Spacecowboy also mentions first quarter 2004 having been stated by orange, way back in December 2003, and THAT is most likely where this was from, as I seem to recall it then too - but its so long back we can't recall the original quote from them. Or maybe I'm getting confused and Q1 2004 was just the date by which Mr O would make sure he visited us again and left us a post or two??? If so, he was true to the word.
Guest RussellH Posted March 9, 2004 Report Posted March 9, 2004 If I remember correctly, I believe it was Mr O who originally stated somewhere here that he hoped an update would be with us early in quarter 2 of this year.
Guest Pulse Posted March 9, 2004 Report Posted March 9, 2004 It wouldnt surprise me with a late Q2 release.
Guest b0x Posted March 9, 2004 Report Posted March 9, 2004 I got a sim update from orange 6/3, too bad it wasnt this :)

Guest spacecowboy6982 Posted March 9, 2004 Report Posted March 9, 2004 Yes Simon - that is true.. I just tried to find th epost now but it appears to have gone. I do know I was first to post directly after him and evreone started joking about which year it was going to be released as Mr Orange quoted "1st Quarter". They still have time guys........
Guest Simon Desser Posted March 9, 2004 Report Posted March 9, 2004 The original thread is here :) http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php...8406&highlight=
Guest spacecowboy6982 Posted March 9, 2004 Report Posted March 9, 2004 I swear its first quarter :) !! Lets have some confidence in them :?: Put it this way if the update isnt out by the end of the month my ready made complaint is winging its way to Watchdog.
Guest nedge2k Posted March 9, 2004 Report Posted March 9, 2004 @Paul or Dumdidum Do you know if starup/shutdown sound work with the new ROM?
Guest morpheus2702 Posted March 9, 2004 Report Posted March 9, 2004 Lets have some confidence in them=. :) :D :D :D :D :D :( I have more confidence in Judas winning 'Best Disciple, AD31'
Guest spacecowboy6982 Posted March 9, 2004 Report Posted March 9, 2004 LMAO :) -Seriously Morpheus we do need to have some sort of trust. I wonder if Microsoft are kicking themselves for choosing Orange - clearly theyre not ready. Personally wish it had been Moto.
Guest morpheus2702 Posted March 9, 2004 Report Posted March 9, 2004 Yep, but when has our trust been repaid by Orange? I'll be praying at the Church of the Immaculate Motorola...
Guest spacecowboy6982 Posted March 9, 2004 Report Posted March 9, 2004 Personnaly Im too late now - sticking with the E-200 until November and see whats out then - Im sorry but if things dont change this time around Im not gonna be suckered into an E-300.

Guest Pondrew Posted March 9, 2004 Report Posted March 9, 2004 From what I've heard the E300 (if it is called that) is likely to just be the E200 repackaged into a Canary like shell. No serious upgrade there... ...but with Motorola about to take the plunge (assuming the MPX100 & MPX220 aren't just prototypes/concepts that've got blown out proportion) I'm looking forward to a major Smartphone 'war' with specs rising, prices falling, and us users smiling! May the best phone win. 8)
Guest Pondrew Posted March 9, 2004 Report Posted March 9, 2004 ...though just realised that as the original SPV (HTC Canary) didn't suffer from either buzzing nor a battery draining SD slot that a Canary derived E300 might not be so bad!
Guest morpheus2702 Posted March 9, 2004 Report Posted March 9, 2004 Can you really see Orange going with this phone? I mean, one of the main criticisms of the original SPV was the cramped keypad - the E100 improved upon this but retained the same hardware. The E200 improved upon this by retaining the same design but having better hardware. The Charlotte design goes BACK a step design-wise and offers no hardware improvements. With E200s being given away almost free, why would you choose the 'E300' at all? Its pointless. Orange and HTC need to raise their game, big BIG time.
Guest Pondrew Posted March 9, 2004 Report Posted March 9, 2004 I won't argue with you Morpheus, mainly because I agree on most your points, BUT... ... I actually preferred the look and design of my original SPV but for the screen. I could live with the cramped keypad. I've made a deal with my Dad that when I upgrade (most likely to the MPX100) that he can have my E200 as long as I can have the original SPV I gave him BACK! I still get sentimental when I see the little guy! :)
Guest morpheus2702 Posted March 9, 2004 Report Posted March 9, 2004 Hey don't get me wrong, I have a great affection for the original little guy, especially when I need to throw a lethal implement at someone. But it drives me nuts to even consider the possibility of a rehashed SPV being foisted upon us as something new and cutting edge, especially as the E200 didn't advance designs one iota!
Guest Pondrew Posted March 10, 2004 Report Posted March 10, 2004 The E200 IS more of a brick then the SPV was (in my opinion anyway). Doubt the upgrade is gonna fix that :)
Guest Pulse Posted March 10, 2004 Report Posted March 10, 2004 I can see me keeping my E200 until I see something significantly better. I may be persuaded by the mpx100 or 220 if they are decent prices, but I doubt it.
