Guest jonwold Posted April 25, 2004 Report Posted April 25, 2004 Installed the "buy" version today. Did a hard reset and then restored. Everything came back! All the software, including registration codes, my gprs t-zone settings, email set up..everything. What a relief!
Guest jonwold Posted April 25, 2004 Report Posted April 25, 2004 Oh yeah, I have an unlocked mpx200 with the motorola generic firmware (got rid of the ATT version)

Guest gpcarreon (MVP) Posted April 25, 2004 Report Posted April 25, 2004 :D enjoy the app katan. see you around. Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest katan Posted April 26, 2004 Report Posted April 26, 2004 Sprite Backup is good! saves you time cuz everything's back (especially apps and homescreen settings). don't have to install over again. 95% good! 5% flaw, this is what i've encountered. Time is back to GMT, have to set date style again, and menu shortcuts were not restored. i mean i have some shortcuts moved to some folder, there were duplicates now. but hey, minimal work! still good! cool!
Guest Pagemakers Posted April 26, 2004 Report Posted April 26, 2004 This app should either be built into the rom (like on my ipaq) or there should be a self installing version from the phone. If your phone gets hard reset you need a pc to reinstall the app before you can restore the backup. Thats my only gripe. Otherwise the best app I own. Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest Jerry Raia Posted April 26, 2004 Report Posted April 26, 2004 Be nice if the darn thing worked on the i600 already! :x
Guest xavierjohn22 Posted April 26, 2004 Report Posted April 26, 2004 Nöpé, yöu cän réstöré evén if yöu dönt havé a PC. Wäit ill gö pästé my höw tö in my phöné, hé hé, xbär cälling... Héré it is. How to use Sprite Backup Beta4 or Beta5 What you will need 1. 2577 folder with autorun.exe 2. Backup Cabs folder in storage card with SmartExplorerEn.cab 3. Sprite Backup Software installed in SD. Making Backups. 1. Change Date since it is expired when you want to Backup. 2. Run Sprite Backup. 3. Backup options, name of backup. 4. Then Backup to storage card. (backup is .pbf in SD root) 5. Change date to normal after backup. Doing a hard reset. 1. Turn Off Phone. (this process may differ in different roms, the smart roms require to remove sd card while other roms like qtek dont or do, its try and make process) 2. Press Record + Power Button When "Press Any key to enter bootloader appears" Press and hold action button until 1-8 option appears. Press 8 to erase ipsm. When you see "PASSED" remove the battery for 30 secs. 3. Put the battery and power on normal. 4. May take a while since its from fresh boot. 5. Wait for addconfig waiting (qtek rom) 6. Wait for IPSM check waiting then "press ok to reset" 7. Press OK (left menu key) for normal reset Phone resets and normal power on resumes. Your phone is now in its default setting. Restoring after a hard reset. 1. Run Browse mmc in accessories since you dont have a explorer. (or remove and insert the sd card for autorun.exe to launch) 2. Install Smart Explorer EN in the BAckupcabs Folder.(ipsm recommended) 3. Menu cancel after installation, then open Smart Explorer. 4. Go to Storage card/Program Files/Sprite Back up....../ 5. Create a shortcut to sprite backup.exe and place it in in IPSM/Windows/Start Menu/Accessories 6. Uninstall Smartexplorer in Settings, Remove Programs 7. (now you may have to change your date again if sprite doesnt run) since date expiration is march 31, 2003 you may change the month or year 8. Turn ON Airplane mode first to block signals. 9. Run Sprite Backup in accessories. 10.Restore your backup located in SD card root directory. 11.Choose clean phone before restore then restore. 12.Press done when restore is finished and turn off airplanemode Your Phone is now back to its original state without the hassle of copying apps, links, sounds and settings and a lot more. You may want to put other cab files in your Backup Cabs folder too, whatever yöu féél néédéd by yöur phöné, hé hé. Now the process will be shorten if you have a pc, creating the sprite shortcut and the other stuffs........ CHEERS! xavierjohn22 2:01 AM 4/20/2004 Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest Pagemakers Posted April 26, 2004 Report Posted April 26, 2004 Cor blimey. So it can be done. Sounds complicated though. It would be a one step process if sprite was supplied as a cab file though! Or better still if the manufacturers built the app into the rom. Thanks anyway Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest katan Posted April 26, 2004 Report Posted April 26, 2004 @xavierjohn meron ako final release ng Sprite backup, will it work pa rin kaya if its expired na? i mean kung iSPAMlik mo yung petsa. priviledge demo lang na--download ko eh!

Guest g4mb17 Posted May 3, 2004 Report Posted May 3, 2004 katan, for you start menu duplicate issue, try the "clean phone before restore" option in the restore screen. riki
Guest g4mb17 Posted May 3, 2004 Report Posted May 3, 2004 landauf: restoring after a ROM upgrade isn't recommended, althoug it might work, the trouble is settings are oftern changed in the registry, and restoreing the old registry can poke things. but by all means try it. If it doesn't work, then you can just restore "Personal Data" this will get you back homescreens, ringtones, SMS/mail, addresses, contacts, My Documents, ummm and tasks. It doesn't restore settings (aka registry) or installed software. riki
Guest abatis Posted May 4, 2004 Report Posted May 4, 2004 I have cloned the contents of my ATT firmware MPX200 phone to my generic firmware MPX using Sprite. I simply copied the SD card that held my Sprite backup and most programs to a new SD card. I plugged the cloned SD card into the generic MPX and executed the Sprite backup exe file. After the restoration the phone fully functioned like the original less the missing ATT homescreen plugins like mMode. Everything else functions like the original including PocketTV, and all my programms. Sprite is very nice.
Guest katan Posted May 7, 2004 Report Posted May 7, 2004 @g4mb17 now i should check clean phone when restoring. also i am getting error messages when restoring cuz i changed ROMS. but still the ROM's working properly and all the apps. i think its those startup files from my previous ROM that cant be found on the new ROM are causing them. i think i can find them in the registry. still saves a lotta work especially for those apps that need to be registered! i'll say it again, "What a POWERFUL APP!!!" 8)
Guest Pagemakers Posted May 11, 2004 Report Posted May 11, 2004 Had to restore my phone today and I used the "restore personal data" option from a backup file made from the same phone 12 hours earlier. At the end of the restore a few errors were generated and the restore completed. When I rebooted the phone I had lost the start menu function and the program icons at the top of the phone. Phone was rendered useless and I had to hard reset and perform a full restore which worked fine. Beware of the restore personal data only option. It failed miserably for me :)
Guest katan Posted May 11, 2004 Report Posted May 11, 2004 i guess one should restore fully rather than restoring one of the two checkboxes. some of these personal data may depend on some Sytem datas, and vice-versa, i think... i did hard reset 3 times cuz after restoration my phone won't boot. didn't find out what caused that... i guess my phone turned to Dumbphone yesterday... :)
Guest Pagemakers Posted May 11, 2004 Report Posted May 11, 2004 I agree but if the option is there it should work.....
Guest mike-oh Posted May 11, 2004 Report Posted May 11, 2004 Hello, I'm trying to run this on my phone and it's telling me that it can't run on phones that are locked such as mine. Is that reffering to certification as i've decertified my phone and i'm running numerous uncertified programmes. Cheers, Mike
Guest Pagemakers Posted May 11, 2004 Report Posted May 11, 2004 You phone must be unlocked. If it is not Sprite will not run.
Guest mike-oh Posted May 11, 2004 Report Posted May 11, 2004 The only thing locked about my phone is the SIM lock. It has been decerted/unlocked or whatever you want to call it.
