Guest afroahmed Posted March 9, 2004 Report Posted March 9, 2004 UPDATED PLEASE READ THIS on the links i provided previsously, turns out the plug has 3 poles. i phoned the company and im getting the parts in a couple of days, expensive? parts are about 98pence in total and only need a little soldering! i think its well worth the effort and is cheaper than paying £5 odd for a premade one.
Guest Twain Posted March 10, 2004 Report Posted March 10, 2004 Hey there, I made my own pair of headphones with a 2.5mm plug. The easiest way to do this (at least was for me!) if you have any old handsfree sets about with a 2.5mm plug on, doesnt even have to be spv handsfree many use same connector. simply cut this off some way up the cable and then cut the end off your headphones (would advise you have some experience soldering so you can be sure not to waste a set of headphones). this means u can simply solder the 2 parts together also the wires should be colour coded so is even easier. I think the microphone is the blue one which just gets left out. i now have a neat and tidy set of good headphones with a 2.5mm plug and dont need an adaptor! Just use some heatshrink to tidy it all up! p.s. if your after some nice earphones i'd recommend sony earbuds if you can afford them! the pic was taken the first time i did it so is no heatshrink, they look alot neater now ive used some! p.p.s excuse the random doodles on the keyboard!!! hahaNew Picture5.jpg
Guest afroahmed Posted March 10, 2004 Report Posted March 10, 2004 NOT BAD, but what is that huge ugly lump of solder and copper wire hanging out? !!!!
Guest Twain Posted March 10, 2004 Report Posted March 10, 2004 haha, its just the pic its because i didnt have any heatshrink at the time so had taped it up 2 protect it but the tapes reflecting the light making it look solid. is only thin wires and smaller piece of heatshrink over the actual join thats all covered now i've stuck a longer piece of heatshrink on it!
Guest afroahmed Posted March 10, 2004 Report Posted March 10, 2004 heatshrink??? sorry i dunno bout electroincs
Guest Twain Posted March 10, 2004 Report Posted March 10, 2004 is simply a tube of rubber but you use a heat gun, or you can bodge it with a very hot hair dryer or using the soldering iron, and it shrinks up tighter under the heat, therefore is like the original plastic surrounding the wires just slightly thicker. meaning theres no wire or solder exposed and looks quite neat!
Guest afroahmed Posted March 11, 2004 Report Posted March 11, 2004 cool. but i dont think ill be needing that just in case where do u get it nd how much is it?
Guest Twain Posted March 11, 2004 Report Posted March 11, 2004 Best place in the UK is maplins, as they do all the parts as well. Not really sure if your outside the UK. Won't cost much at all as you'll need hardly any just enough to cover the joint. Looking at around 50p if that.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted March 12, 2004 Report Posted March 12, 2004 Also for those with MPX200 the pins are a different configuration.
Guest afroahmed Posted March 13, 2004 Report Posted March 13, 2004 i still havent ad time to order these things yet....ill keep u updated
Guest m1.carson Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 I cut my SPV100 headset cable above the microphone/answer button so you only solder new earphones on, twisted the left and right signal cables together then the two screens [joined together] soldered them and fitted heatshrink from Maplins, that way you get to be able to answer the phone as normal. The heatshrink needed is so small a couple of seconds with a lighter takes it down, [Don't get the cable hot it melts at low temperatures].
Guest pizdyetz77 Posted April 8, 2004 Report Posted April 8, 2004 Can someone help me here please? I'm making a 2.5 - 3.5 adapter for my SPV. It's the same as one pictured on Page 1 of this post. I've got an old handsfree and cut the wires. I've also got a jack adapter onto which I'll solder the wires. This adapter has a terminal for each of the earphones and a ground connection. That much I have figured out. I've got 2 black wires coming out the old handsfree, a further two within each wire. On one I've got a gold wire and a red wire On the other I've got two greens, one of them with a bit of red wrapped around it. Question therefore is: Which two are the left & right speaker wires Which is the earth Which is for the now redundant mic? Hope you can help. GH
Guest mrdanne Posted April 10, 2004 Report Posted April 10, 2004 Hello. Does it look exactly like the one I have posted with 3 connections on the 2,5 mm plug, or does it have 4 connections like the original SPV stereo handsfree? If it only has 3 connections the microphone will be grounded in the phone, so there is no special microphone cable. Use a multimeter to check where the cables are connected in the 2,5 mm plug. Check the fourth message on page 2 in this thread about what the different connections in the plug are used for. Feel free to ask more if you don't understand. Regards Daniel
Guest pizdyetz77 Posted April 10, 2004 Report Posted April 10, 2004 Thanks, but I worked it out. Two green wires are left and right speakers, while the other two just go to earth. These were then soldered to a 90 degree 2.5mm jack & everything works great. The parts cost me £1 but the bas***ds charged me £4.99 for delivery as it was under the minumum order value. The actually arrived in a HUGE box by courier. Have they never heard of envelopes and 1st class stamps? If anyone's interested in having one of these made for them I'll do it for £5. That's £1 cheaper than doing it yourself and saves the hassle of soldering etc. I'll just stick it in an envelope and not charge you £4.99 delivery. Let me know if this would help you. Cheapest I've seen on the net is just under a tenner plus delivery. Thanks for your help all the same. GH PS - sorry the pics are a bit crap. But I do own an E200, you see.My Picture_00093.jpgMy Picture_00092.jpgMy Picture_00091.jpg
Guest squall Posted May 23, 2004 Report Posted May 23, 2004 heatshrink is a insulating sleeve which shrinks when heated :) you use it for stopping connectors from shorting etc. It looks alot more professional than insulating tape  Edit: Oh didnt realise i was not on last page :S
