Guest teddyen66 Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 Has amyone tried the french update on a UK or DK phone? Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest Richie M Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 Has amyone tried the french update on a UK or DK phone? Posted from my SmartPhone! As i said earlier, DO NOT use this update unless you are with Orange FR! Out of interest, does anyone know what happens with non-orange phones (ie. o2 xphone, and imate Smartphone2)? Yes, you will be locked to Orange FR and unable to downgrade to your original ROM!
Guest peekie Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 does anyone know the rom version numbers ok you cant go back but you can go forwards if the uk code is higher than the french version, see orange uk have dropped the updates to all other counties and one final thing if mr orange reads this can he kick the orange nl in the backside as the website still says nothing about the original update and orange nl have been sending out cd's with the update on it and i've still not got it
Guest egghead101 Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 All sounds good but there is no mention of Email Auto Send/Recieve on multiple accounts. At the moment you have to leave your Inbox on the account you want to collect email on......
Guest Richie M Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 does anyone know the rom version numbers ok you cant go back but you can go forwards if the uk code is higher than the french version No it doesnt work that way, as i originally said; the ROM updates are getting more clever with each release and are written to only work if a specific ROM is on the device - therefore if you use the french update you will only be able to use future french updates!
Guest martin Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 Does anyone now the response to the French ROM from the French forums ? Any conclusions yet ? Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest SmartphoneFrance Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 What do you want to know ? -- Christophe - Smartphone France http://www.smartphonefrance.info/
Guest martin Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 Hi Christophe Just wondered if feedback on the software has been very positive and also have there been any unresolved issues noted so far. Just curious :) Thanks Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest whitfa Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 Do we know if the T9 'forgetfulness' issue is addressed in the update?
Guest idoru Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 Do we know if the T9 'forgetfulness' issue is addressed in the update? YES :-) I tested it out and this bug is fixed now. The battery life is seriously improved also. Can someone also confirm that the T9 bug is fixed for completeness.
Guest ferret Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 16Mb  these updates are getting less and less dial up friendly! Ah well, there must be some serious fixes packed in that size. :)
Guest shadamehr Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 YES :-) I tested it out and this bug is fixed now. The battery life is seriously improved also. Can someone also confirm that the T9 bug is fixed for completeness. As I understand it, the T9 Forgetfulness bug was not as RANDOM as people thought. I always found that what caused it for me was sending an "MMS". After every occurence of sending an MMS, the words for the SMS T9 Dictionary had been lost. So it should be easy to test. Add some special words, send an SMS, and see if T9 'knows them'. Then send an MMS. Go back and type another SMS, and see if it still knows them. If so, in my case, this would indicate the bug fixed.
Guest Pagemakers Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 My T9 got lost and I never send MMS's
Guest LAMBERTJ08 Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 The french ROM has the same T9 that the old ROM  DJ.JO
Guest idoru Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 The french ROM has the same T9 that the old ROM Â DJ.JO I have tested this in English. Switching between sms/mail and MMS and it remembers all my new T9 enteries. So I see that the bug is fixed with new french update.
Guest Pagemakers Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 I have tested this in English. Switching between sms/mail and MMS and it remembers all my new T9 enteries. Try turning your phone off and on a bit as well.
Guest LAMBERTJ08 Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 What I wanted to say it's that T9 not has multi languages.
Guest Richie M Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 What I wanted to say it's that T9 not has multi languages. Yeah thats what i heard, no proper English T9 dictionary, only French.
Guest idoru Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 Yes you are right. I want to be able to switch between french and english and I understood that it was to be an enhancement included in the update. I tested it out and sadly to say it's not the case :)
Guest luchao18 Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 Battery is fully charged. No Call made during testing. Leave the phone untouched while testing. The battery life with bluetooth always on and sandisk 128mb SD card inside is roughly 18 hrs, not a big (no) improvement for me. However, the update statement in Orange FR does say the improvement in battery life is when bluetooth is off.... Combined with the missing features like multi-lan T9, etc. I think Mr.O France gave us a pre-release only for shuting our mouth, while other suppliers are working on much better ones. Although updated, but Really Disappointed.
Guest luchao18 Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 One Positive: Cleartype becomes default display method, although haven't found a way to switch it off.
Guest peekie Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 everyone goes on about t9 i find this function a pain in the ass as if you can spell its not needed plus if you need to use a non normal word you have to switch it off i myself always switch it off when i get a phone as i don't like a phone telling me what i want to write ( not just the spv all phones ).   get mr orange to kick orange websites in the butt as iam as are all dutch people fed up with the bad service we have from orange nl
Guest Pagemakers Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 T9 for me is one of the most important features of the phone. Posted from my SmartPhone!
