Guest Pulse Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 Pathetic. That's all I can say. Stuff this this shouldnt happen, and it's ruined one of my favourite features on my phone. I'm extremely unhappy, and wish I had never 'updated' my phone. Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest rimmer Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 Has anyone tried contacting Customer Support about this? I am going to try again today. Strange that I have had bad quality form day one and now others who have had good quality before update, now have bad quality. They better bring out a fix for this soon, as I cannot be bothered to keep on swapping phone after phone untill they get it right.
Guest shardy Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 Well, I installed the update, video quality is still poor with quite a bit of static hissing. It is however better than my last phone and I can hear and understand conversation now. Sadly I think I'm going to cut my losses and leave it at that. Part of me feels that I should exchange the phone again, but the rest of me can't face standing in that shop again for a few more hours, and then getting a 4th phone that no doubt will have the same fault! Maybe this is how Orange get you to stop complaining - they just make it so traumatic to exchange a phone that you resign yourself to owning faulty equipment! I am intending to write another letter of complaint to Orange, both about the phone and the customer service, but I won't hold my breath as they haven't yet replied to my first letter from nearly 2 weeks ago. Sam
Guest rimmer Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 I just got off the phone to CS, the lady I spoke was adamant that she had heard of no complaints what so ever with the E200. She went on to say that she had worked there "for a while" and no E200 complaints - crazy. Anyway she said the Tech support will ring me regarding the problem and hopefully they will tell me a software fix is around the corner and I of course will stupidly beleive them.......... Getting really annoyed at this now...........
Guest jbrare Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 I got my E200 on December 12th. I had no problems with sound in video recordings (perhaps a tiny bit of hiss, but it was tiny!). I also had no buzzing during calls. Now the volume in calls is very low with no bass at all and the audio in video recordings is totally inaudable. The hiss is just totally unbelievable! The bloody thing is useless to listen to audio on the video recordings!!!!! What is it with sound on the E200!!! Why can't we insert or play back sound in MMS either. For god sake Orange - Get it sorted!!!!! JB
Guest efjay Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 My E200 is currently packed and ready to be returned to orange tomorrow, i went back to the shop i bought from and tried 2 other handsets all with the same problem, shop guy tried to tell me it was down to the phone running ms software, was told i'd get a call later about exchanging but never came, so i am cancelling my contact after 2 days. I definitely like the smartphone platform just not on this hardware. I also wonder if any current users of the imate version have these problems?
Guest DeFacto Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 Ive had my e200 since december and have just updated and guess what? I've suddenly got that buzzing noise when recording video that was never there before the update!quote] This may sound too optimistic, but seeing as it's a software problem I think it will get fixed.... eventually..... somehow :?:
Guest Dave.Burn Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 I updated the other day, video sound quality was fine before, now it's unusable.
Guest Dave.Burn Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 samples, before(kids party) after (in front of pc) sorry about the size  :evil:VIDEO_00002.zipVIDEO_00009.zip
Guest RussellH Posted March 24, 2004 Report Posted March 24, 2004 I had this problem before the ROM update. I've not got an E200 at the moment, but I had one before that I returned due to all the bugs. I had it for a couple of weeks, and when I first got it, the sound on videos was fine. It developed this problem a couple of days before I sent it back. I remember mentioning this on one of the other threads at the time. Can't remember where, but someone suggested something that might fix it. Didn't bother at the time, as the phone was going back anyway. Either way, this is very poor. Hope somebody somewhere here can suggest something, as I don't expect Orange to sort it out in any sensible length of time.
Guest confusion_boy Posted March 24, 2004 Report Posted March 24, 2004 Ok, well, sorry to hear that i am the only one on this thread that has actually enjoyed much better sound quality while recording video after doing the update. If it helps anyone, my SPV is an HT346D model, but im not sure if you can request specific models for replacement or whether it is just a complete fluke that the update actually worked for my phone.
Guest Pug Posted March 26, 2004 Report Posted March 26, 2004 Ho hum, mine is hissy and garbled too after the update. Wasn't a heavy user of the video anyway coz I'm not fond of the 3 fps playback!
Guest theodotcom Posted March 27, 2004 Report Posted March 27, 2004 I had my handset since it came out without the hissing, however since installing the update i have hissing when recording video, has this happened with anyone?
Guest Leon1970 Posted March 28, 2004 Report Posted March 28, 2004 Damn. You know that feeling you get when you have something totally cool and exciting? You show the gadget off to your friends and everyone circles around you gawping in amazement, as if your some guy who travelled back in time from the future showing off new technology. For a brief second you feel like a Messiah who tells of what the future holds. Then in a demonstration of the new video recording feature, you fall to your knees. Shielding your head from the onslaught of stones and mortar, blocking your ears from screams of, "Freak! Stone him! Burn him!". My fingers are now in bandages and it's taken me 4 hours to type this far. Thanks Orange, I've been banished from my village and labelled the village idiot. What a way to spend a weekend :/ On a factual note, I got my phone yesterday afternoon. It's the HT346D model and been hissing/distorting noise during video playback since I first tried it out (mental note: Do not demonstrate new features of a cool device in a crowd unless you are sure it works). I downloaded and installed the update and voila, no difference. Never had a chance to find out if my battery has changed as I've had the phone for just over 24hrs so can't comment there I'm afraid. Will update if I find the phone has died by the time I finished writing this. I do hope we can find a cure for this soonish. I'd like to go home soon and see my family. To prove once and for all, I am a traveller from the future. Which reminds me, the future wasn't orange and it wasn't bright. Quite hazy blue actually :)
Guest Leon1970 Posted March 29, 2004 Report Posted March 29, 2004 Well, I'm still not allowed back to my village so still sleeping rough. Still, there's a response from IA Style (the guys who made the video recording program) which is nice: http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?p=390131 So who know's, fingers crossed (well, when my fingers don't hurt I'll cross them) :)
Guest pd.ryder Posted March 30, 2004 Report Posted March 30, 2004 Why doesn't someone from Orange / HTC have the dangly-bits to monitor and reply to issues reported in this forum? Reading through any of the threads shows major and consistent issues with Orange Customer Services talking absolute pap (I'm being polite!), telling the Customer one thing and doing nothing - sometimes not even recording complaints on the Customer file. I can't remember ever reading posts from a "Satisfied Customer", just plenty groaning about Orange CS and it doesn't seem to matter what the issue is. We must be able to do something about this department - suppose I'll ring CS to complain!
Guest MonkeyJug Posted March 30, 2004 Report Posted March 30, 2004 had my e200 since december. i rang orange this morning and told them about my hissing sound during video playback since the update, they said they'd pass my details to orange tech - i got a call an hour later and they are sending a courier tomorrow with a new phone and waiving any admin costs! now THAT'S customer service! Guest Leon1970 Posted March 30, 2004 Report Posted March 30, 2004 I rang them this morning (10am): 1) They allegedly have no records of anyone ringing up with the same problem. 2) My details were passed on to the tech team. 3) 9 hours later, I'm still waiting for this call back. Customer Services departments of ALL companies vary dramatically depending on the Rep you're talking to. Unfortunately, there's no consistency. Usually, I have to say Orange are good at sorting out any billing queries and other issues. Pick of the draw I guess.
Guest MonkeyJug Posted March 31, 2004 Report Posted March 31, 2004 i guess a lot of it is luck as to how competent the rep is and a certain amount of ass-kissing and politeness when you make the initial call to orange. i'm sitting here now with my brand new e200 handset and there's no way a rom upgrade is going anywhere near this one! i really can't praise orange enough on this whole issue. i called yesterday at about 11am to report my 'hissing playback since rom upgrade' problem and i had a brand new phone delievered straight to my door at 12:15pm today. now, THAT takes some beating!
Guest Leon1970 Posted March 31, 2004 Report Posted March 31, 2004 Amazing, 33 hours later and I'm still waiting for my call back. I did call them this morning at 10am incase they lost my details. They assured me that someone will call me back today. They still had my records and enquiry against my details, so they hadn't lost it. If it is just a case of getting another hand set and no software fix. I may as well go back in to an Orange store and swap the handset over. Makes sense to me.
Guest Leon1970 Posted April 5, 2004 Report Posted April 5, 2004 I gave up waiting for tech support to call back. Managed to get the handset replaced, on Saturday, under the back key repeating problem. Here's the deal: 1) Video playback on original rom, fine. Small hiss but you could CLEARLY hear what was going on. Frame rate was pretty decent too. 2) Updated the ROM (stupid me) to the latest version. 3) Playback is incredibly choppy and too much hiss with any words that can be heard is distorted. I guess it's back on the phone to Orange and wait and wait and wait.....
Guest Leon1970 Posted April 5, 2004 Report Posted April 5, 2004 Does anyone know if MonkeyJug creates a back up of his phone using a back up utility, could I then install his back up? Assuming that MonkeyJug is ok with this :D
