Yep.. I agree with u. Also, Bluetooth is virtually useless becoz it'll bring down the battery in a matter of few hours.

So Mr O... We need more juice from the battery please !!

hiya everyone ,i have waited ages for this update and eagerly downloaded it and went through the procedures to find the download stopped at 56 % on my phone and now my phone is dead !

when i now switch the phone on it says "press any key to enter bootloader "and the the screen goes to red green and blue bands saying "smartphone v1.03 doc". i have tried the download again but no joy . so i phoned orange and they said i have to send it back to h.t.c to get it re flashed but after reading a few threads on modaco there not so clever ! has anyone any ideas ???

my excellent smartphone is broken  i feel as though i have had a limb amputated !

Just to let everyone know. I've had a load of problems with the new Rom. I could not hear anyone during conversation.

The images on my camera were c**p, i kept on getting blue pixels on my photos, and my infrared Activesync kept on disconnecting.

I tried doing that "clear storage" hoping that it would help, and it didn't.

Eventually i reloaded the ROM through "bootloader", and to my pleasant surprise almost all of the problems have gone. The incall volume is much loader (still not as load as the original rom but at least I can hear people now). My camera is working just as good as before.

I don't know if anyone has tried doing this yet, but it seems to have worked for me.

The only difference between the 2 times that I loaded the rom was that on the 2nd time round my USB cradle was connected to the power supply.

I hope that this solves some problems for the rest of you.

Good Luck

As this thread is being monitored, I'd like to add that buttons have randomly stopped working since the update. Occasionally the back button wont exit an application, but pressing the home button goes back to the http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=714>home screen and the back button then works again. This morning I had an SMS message but couldn't unlock the phone to view it as the top left soft key didn't work.

Can anyone else confirm that they get this problem?

It also seems to take quite a bit longer to boot up the phone. Not a problem but it adds to the general feeling that the E200 is slower generally than it was pre-update.

Take a look at "back key" thread as I am also having this problem. as I suspect many others are as well, they just don't realise it yet

Thanks crimminsky - thought it couldn't be a hardware problem as it didn't happen before the update. So it's not that the key isn't working, it's because another key is repeating and ignoring other key-presses? It happened twice yesterday when I got a text message and couldn't unlock the phone to read it. Weird thing is that when I pull the battery and turn the phone back on, it's still key-locked.

I've actually had enough of the new rom and I'm going to phone Orange later to see what they are going to do about it. I was thinking of getting Orange care anyway so I might get that first, then phone. :x

As far as i know, the implimentation of MS Windows CE series does not allow users to close or "shut down" applications, that is due to the idea of a multi-tasking system, which is backed by Microsoft. When a running application requires more memory, the windows will automatically close background programs to release more memory, otherwise, they will remain in the memory for easy access.

Not to say i am not a fan of it either.

more from maker of mctravel, if any Windows CE software trying to add a close or quit function, they will simply not getting certified by M$.

I have a Swiss E200 and on the Orange Swiss site they have ROM updates 2.6.5.3

1. Should I use that or the UKs?

2. Is the default language is English?

Please advise

Following my earlier post where I noticed no change in the battery life following the update, events of this weekend prompt me to post a follow-up...

On Saturday evening I noticed that, with nothing listed in Task Manager, the free memory was around 2-2.5MB lower than usual. I also noticed the battery drain seemed to have jumped back up to 6-7%/hour... After cycling the power (for the first time since doing the Clear Storage 10 days ago), my free memory was back up to the 10MB mark, and the battery drain seems to have got even better than before. A quick check in the remaining hours of Saturday suggested <3%/hour, and in the 7 hours that the phone has been off-charge today, the average drop has been 2%/hour... With just an hour or so to go before I head home, I'm still showing 4 bars on the battery gauge, which has never happened before - I have to keep checking the power status readout in Task Manager to convince myself the gauge hasn't simply stopped working!

Sunday gave me the opportunity to test the standby power consumption post-reboot. Over a 12 hour period where the phone was left switched on but otherwise was unused (besides a quick check of the battery level every couple of hours), the TOTAL drop in battery power was 14%... Given that the drop over those 12 hours appeared linear, if we assume it continued to drop at the same linear rate until the battery were completely exhausted, that would give a lifetime of around 85 hours, which suggests the 3 days standby time quoted by Orange is not just a fantasy.

All these figures are taken from a phone which has Bluetooth disabled, has a 32MB MMC card inserted, has CallerID, All-Locations Traffic Counter and the recently posted "white line" e200screenfix.exe running in the background, and has the power management set to "10 seconds" and "Turn off".

Perhaps this erratic behaviour of the new ROM might explain why we're all seeing different things post-update. For the first couple of days my battery life was half what it used to be. Then I did Clear Storage and for the next week it was back to where it was pre-update. Then I noticed the increased drain, rebooted again, and now I seem to have at least twice the battery life I had pre-update...

Interesting stuff Twister. Must say my battery life only seems good when I don't need the phone (not often). But maybe that's just sod's law.

It's improved since the update, just not by much. I usually get about a day's standby, sometimes more, rarely less. It's not as good as it should be although I personally always felt the battery supplied wasn't up for the job (it's 1000mah isn't it? lower capacity then many) rather then entirely blaming the software/processor combination.

I wish they'd make a longer lasting battery then... :D Hopefully one will come out...

I got a cheeky little something to add to this 'marathon' .....

If this thread is being monitored, are orange aware of just how much everyone hates them at the mo? I mean they've been compared to NTL!!

Orange - for pity sake listen - YOU ARE RUBBISH!!!

sort your sh*t out or (hopefully) the market will respond appropriately and your customers will go to someone who knows what they are doing!!!

fanks!

That's a bit unfair, I find NTL CS better than Orange, I know that never used to be the case with NTL, but they have never been unable to fix my problem, whereas Orange do nothing but create more problems.

After leaving my problems with Orange tech support, they phoned me back a few days later offering to replace my handset, which they did promptly at 9am the next day.

Despite all their problems, they at least try to keep their customer service top notch...Not that I have any basis for this, but i think the problems with the update may be more from HTC's side than Orange's...I can't imagine Orange (the best phone operator out there) being the kind of company to mess up this bad from their end...

Dont know how true this is, but I was chatting to someone at work, (I work for CPW) who was one of the testers for the new ROM, he was saying that there were actually two ROM updates that were posted, but three were developed.

Good news is that the newer one that includes the improved T9 functionality is due for release in about 3 weeks time!

Hope this is true....

Ok Paul [MPV], just what do you know?

Instead of scoffing at us, provide a little bit of hopeful insight?

Guest shadamehr

Yeah Paul, that's a pretty definitive no - which implies you know something quite specific.

Care to share Boss?

Guest Pondrew

He's probably not got anything to share rather then hiding anything.

I take Paul's 'No' to mean just that. No there aren't any more updates in the immediate future. No conspiracy, just the cold truth.

this may be a new one, i've read most of this post but can't remember seeing it. my phone has recently developed a very annoying trick of dropping back to the good screen in the middle of using a variety of apps. very irritating indeed. its done it five times during trying to get to this page to reply. roll on that p900 upgrade i was promised. i've had enough. this is the sixth e200 i've had with all sorts of problems. this phone sucks, and the upgrade has created all new problems. i can't wait to be rid of the bl**dy thing. sorry to all who love theirs. by the "good screen" i presume you mean home screen :D

if so, it may sound simple but have you changed the setting for how long it takes for the phone to return to the homescreen?

It's in StartSettingsHomescreen ;)
