Guest Zimbu Posted April 29, 2004 Report Posted April 29, 2004 Dizzy: Pleased to hear it's peaked your interest for it's own project. www.yolkfolk.com have guides about fan games and how not to upset Codemasters. Magic Knight was a platformer/roleplay so I don't think you'll be into that sorta thing right now. Final Fantasy : when you say "WAY too big" I respecfully nod my head and say... yeah what was I thinking Lemmings : The pc version was very pixel specific, but I'm sure a clone based on tile prescision would be easier, plus easier to navigate with a key pad. Try flea circus on www.fhm.com 's best online games. In fact for ideas look at all of those games :D Yoda Stories : I'd have to ask my shoulder surfing mate, who isn't available for questioning right now. Simon : Yup, bang on the button. Variations were flag man from nintendo. Risk : Don't be scared, you can do it. Just let me know how to hold russia. Abes Odysee/Prince of persia: I can respect your avoidance of platformers. They consume a lot of time, I'm trying to get my own physics engine working for my pc sprite project and it's a dawg. Mario Kart / F-Zero : These were again attributed to my shoulder surfer bud Bort. Jet Pac + Jumping Jack : Awwwwww ;) Sim City : Sim Tech support? Run a department's tech support by upgrading there stuff? Sim Farm? Spy Hunter : I got to admit, if you get the theme tune chucked into any game I'll be just as pleased, but I'd love to play a spy hunter clone where the car is a VW bug with wacky weapons. Breakout : Cool spin on the asteroid idea. Painter : Heheh gotcha  Chu Chu: If you make this, please include a sand box mode as I love to send the little blighters doing pointless looping tasks. *shrug* just a fetish I guess. Trap Door : It's a platformer, but it was weird. I recommend getting a speccy emulaor and giving it a try. Boulder Dash : I played Kye, I remember it was sponsoring some kiddy charity. It rocked. Keep 'em coming.. Okay.... here goes. Pipe dream. Gauntlet/Alien Breed/top down baddie killing key finding fun Cannon Fodder Mouse-traps-cats-with-bricks game Whack-a-mole Fruit Machine Rockstar ate my hamster uhh... I just got told to add "Spy vs. Spy" and "Stonkers" to the list, whatever that is. But he's my boss so I can't say no. Did you ever play the mario bros game and watch LCD game (it's not a platformer!) ? In fact why don't you keep an eye out for old game and watch games, they were fun and fast and not very processor intensive. I would deff. recommend checking them out. Did you ever play a shareware game called plebs? You flew around in a plane dropping bombs on these tiny people who would try to stack themselves to blow up your plane. Replace the bomb with a ten ton weight and the plebs for something annoyingly cute (with an equally satisfyin squishing noise) and my sadistic respect will go out to you :P Actually, any sadistic game where cute creatures are blown up or squished makes a fantastic tension reliever. And after watching "Shawn of the Dead" (absolutley terrific) I'd like to say that any game involving the furious dispatching of zombies would be most appreciated. Anything except cruelty to monkeys and cows.
Guest Jayenkai Posted April 29, 2004 Report Posted April 29, 2004 Sim Tech Support sounds interesting.. Pipe dream : However, it's name reminds me of a "Superior Software" game, Pipeline.. (I'm pretty sure that was it's name) Which was more like Repton/Boulderdash than that stupid pipes and water thing.. Gauntlet/Alien Breed/top down baddie killing key finding fun : Yeah, we need one of these.. Cannon Fodder : Without the Mousestyle control, it may as well just be one of the above.. Mouse-traps-cats-with-bricks game : huh? Whack-a-mole : Definately planned Fruit Machine : LOL.. Um... Not JUST yet.. Later Rockstar ate my hamster : Yeay! I used to love this.. At one point in time I planned to do a Pokemon/Zelda Topdown RPG style thing, but with the Rockstar style gameplay.. IE you have to build up your band, and then do touring, and stuff.. Except you also had to figure out how you were going to get to your gigs, and stuff, too. Didn't get very far, due to the fact that I realised I would have to design an entire world to play the game in!! "Spy vs. Spy" : requires quite a bit of AI.. And I'm not that good at "decent" AI.. I can do basic stuff, but nothing much more than that. But something LIKE it is possible.. "Stonkers" : No idea!! I'll dig out the "Game & Watch Gallery" games, for Gameboy, and have a look through them.. and as for the Plebs thing.. Sounds a bit like Hi-Rise, from the Amstrad.. except that was a helicopter flying, and dropping bombs on skyscrapers.. Ironically, the "Kill cute animals" version sounds a bit less violent than the "Destory Skyscrapers" one!! One last thing, before I click "Submit".. Please do remember that I'm going for Overly Simplistic Retro "kinda bad" graphics.. Mostly 'cos I suck at drawing. So don't be getting too excited, will you! Check my site for a few shots of some of the current games.. Like that.. Not great... But should keep you occupied for a while..
Guest PritenC Posted April 29, 2004 Report Posted April 29, 2004 Sim Tech Support Yeah you could model it on Orange customer services and end up with a customer going postal in the building! :D
Guest Zimbu Posted April 30, 2004 Report Posted April 30, 2004 Uh, Jayenkai, is now a good time to mention I'm a bit of a sprite fanatic and have (blowing my own trumpet here) gotten quite good at sprite work. If you want anything done for your games, my people could talk to your people and I'd be more than happy to knock out some stuff for you. My graphics tend to be along the lines of super mario on the snes, colourful and cartoony but I have recieved lots of kudos from my friends for my Dizzy sprites (I'm working on my own Dizzy clone with spritecraft and VB6). If you mail me at [email protected] with one or two requests I'll be more than happy to send you some samples. Just tell me the size, format, colourdepth and what you'd like to see and I'll show off :D However, I will understand if you want to be totally independant (I suck at music and sound sampling yet I won't let anyone add sound to *my* games so I'm cool with any refusal). Please remove 'NOJUNK' from the mail address, it's my non-spammed account.
Guest Zimbu Posted April 30, 2004 Report Posted April 30, 2004 Sim Tech Support Yeah you could model it on Orange customer services and end up with a customer going postal in the building! :D So you either got to fork out for security guards or get your product working or get your tech support working better... I like it already. Plus you could do things like upgrading the coffee machine and boosting your techie's caffeine. Hahahaha it looks like a game is forming here. So when is it game over, when irate customers over run the building and blow away your chairman?
Guest Jayenkai Posted April 30, 2004 Report Posted April 30, 2004 LOL! Yeah, Sim Tech Supports sounding better by the minute :D As for your sprite offer, I'd rather keep The Green Collection as.. bad.. as I can.. The original one I did for Windows (Download Here : 1.56MB ) was entered into a competition, who's rules were Only 20 8*8pixel, 2 colour sprites and 2 320*240 16colour images allowed. And so I'm trying to keep to the same Style, even if I don't stick with those rules.. Maybe you could help in a future game. However, since I'm only ever going to be doing Freeware*, I won't be able to pay for any sprites used, sorry.. *Until further notice!
Guest Zimbu Posted April 30, 2004 Report Posted April 30, 2004 Uh pay? No no no I don't want pay. I do it for the love of it. My Dizzy clone is also going to be freeware... :D I have finished the physics engine and the map format, all I have to do now is get the rooms to change when he changes rooms, add backgrounds, object/interaction handling and a story. Then it's level design and finally the gui/lives score (simple stuff - and my favourite part). Then I might grit my teeth and bring on a sound man.
