Hey wouldnt you be able to save on rpg's the normal way like you would on an actual megadrive, instead of using save states?

Hi all

You lucky people, there's a second update of the evening! Build 24/05/2004 now includes:

* Dave's standardised load/save code - so hopefully there will be no changes to load/save for a while;

* Fix (hopefully) for the problem where up became mapped to left (as experienced by ka_oni_kappa among others)

* Significantly updated Cyclone engine (yes!) to version 0.071 - so a bunch of new games have started working...

Seems like it might be running a little more smoothly than before, but then that might just be me.

Same place as usual...

Max,

It seems to be still there the left key bug. But the menu looks very good.

It would be good to save to screen orientation and backlight option in registry too if possible. Saving us to have to apply it every time we load a game.

Great work again max...

one thing... i have loads of 'bin' files for other software, so when the emulator shows all the bin files... it takes me ages to scroll down to the sega games, any chance you could get the emulator to only search the same folder that the emulator is in... im sure most people keep them all in just the one folder.

Did someone noticed already? The non-european versions are also working now..And games are running even faster than before..great work again..

one small thing..the backlight options aren´t saved when you exit picodrive so maybe you can fix it

still there the left key bug
F***. Thought I'd nailed this bug, after seeing it on my own phone a number of times; can't say I've seen it since testing the new version. I might add a dump-key-settings option to the next version, so that anyone who gets this bug can dump out (yes) the key settings that are being used by PicoDrive at that moment. That way I can see if something inside PicoDrive is mangling things.

good to save to screen orientation and backlight option in registry too

Definitely, will be present in next release. Will also save the framerate as well, though I've a feeling it's only me who's so rubbish at old Megadrive games that they actually need to use it ;-)

get the emulator to only Search the same folder that the emulator is in
I can see why you want this... is it going to cause anyone any problems if I carry it out? Obviously it means you can't install PicoDrive to your phone then all the ROMs to your storage card. But I don't see why that should matter too much in practice. Any complaints if the next version only searches the directories below the install path?

The non-european versions are also working now

LOL, another Pico fix from Dave that I ported without noticing :-D cheers for pointing it out!

games are running even faster
I'm pretty sure of this now, in particular a certain platform game favourite of mine now runs quite a bit more smoothly. Sadly the [edit] we all want to work, doesn't. Yet.

the sound no news about it?

FWIW... don't get too excited because we're still [b}weeks or months away from actual working WinCE code (probably), but the first bits of code to handle sound are starting to appear in Dave's PicoDrive source code... so the collective prayers of many people on this thread may one day be answered :-D

Oh yeah... anyone using the new RJHtml plugin might notice their home-screen flickering through onto PicoDrive's screen. Haven't even started working on a code fix for PicoDrive, cos I only noticed it on the way to work this morning. But the workaround is to call up PicoDrive options. Then hit Home, then Start. This brings up the program list. Now use Xbar to return to PicoDrive's Options dialog, and press '1' to return to the emulator. This bumps you back to the previous screen, which is normally the PicoDrive play screen but in this case, is the programs list. Now use Xbar to return to PicoDrive. You should find that because the window behind PicoDrive is now the programs list, and not the home screen, the flickering doesn't occur any more

Feedback on the above bug would be helpful: does it happen on 2002 phones as well as 2003 phones, does the workaround work OK, etc.

Cheers

Max

MAX, wat about the lack of games working,? can this be sorted in anyway. great work by the way:-)

We're going to have to wait while Dave improves the compatibility, Max is doing a great job porting to the Smartphone but it's Dave's (admittedly genius) work of emulation that decides which games will work.

Guess patience is the order of the day...

patience is the order of the day

Couldn't have put it better myself. Everything comes to (s)he who waits... though I assume you've spotted the raft of ROMs that now work in this new version...

Anyway I would say the thing is showing about 50% compatibility at the moment with the ROMs I've tried; things *are* improving steadily...

Have to say great work to both Dave and Max on this  this truely blows any other emu away.

About looking below the install path,

is it going to cause anyone any problems if I carry it out?

that would be awsome if it cuts down the time it takes to find ROMs.

One problem that i have with a game (not sure if i'm allowed to say the name but it rhymes with [edit] :) Awarner or any other mod please remove if you want)

Keep up the great work chaps.

1) i've got a "motorola mpx200"

2) the bug :

i try 2 platform rom (Disney product) and there are a bug on keyboard setting,i try to tell it in this way :

a) when the screen mode is in (0) [now you have the right on up key] and try to go right and jump you can't do it but only first go up and then go right but if you try do this on left side it work good

:) when the screen mode is on (1) [now you have the left on up key] the problen on point a) don't exist but you can't go down (down don't work)

c) if the screen mode is on (2) [now you have up on up key] you have all the directions and all the combo with A,B,C keys (there aren't problem)

i repeat, these problem exist with 2 platform rom of disney production ( i don't make any rom's name ) and these problem are in both roms

Here is what i Notice so far. (first value is keypad on mpx200)

left = down, up = left, right = up, down = right. Going up don't work in game by pressing the up key but the down key act as the up key.

I try changing it to up=up, down=down, etc... all direction works except for up, which doesn't do anything.

Ok now up = right, right = down, down = left, left = up. Everything works fine here.

Guess i will use the default screen rotation of 0 and use the last key mapping since everything works there :)

he's right. the default screen config works fine with the corresponding key mapping. everything else seems to have problems.

but this port is the best yet! the save/load thing works great...unless i forget to save or overwrite a save :)

Don't forget that diagonallydownleft on the MPx200 dpad doesn't work! Is it this that's causing the problem?

Oh and for those wanting the browse for ROMs option, my dialog is underway and I should have something for the PicoDrive team to use fairly soon.

Guest muzzio_giovanni

no isn't the diagonalydownleft problem because,sa i say, when i change the screen mode the problem there isn't but there is another new problem the only one configuration mode for keyboard is when you use the mpx200 in verticaly mode [ screen mode (2) ] in the other mode there alway a different problem with keyboard?

what have you got that is so usefull for picodrive developers?

OK, here's the thing. The Orientation option should have *no effect whatsoever* on what keypresses do. So if you set the keypad, using PicoDrive Key Settings.exe, to match this:

..........................Megadrive UP

................................^

................................|

Megadrive LEFT <--O--> Megadrive RIGHT

................................|

................................V

..........................Megadrive DOWN

.. then the phone keypad will only work properly on Orientation 2.

Put another way: set up your keypad as above, using PicoDrive Key Settings.exe. Load up a ROM with a pre-game-menu, and set Orientation to 2. Pressing UP and DOWN on the keypad should move the menu highlight up and down. Now set Orientation to 0. Pressing the same buttons should still give the same effect. But, the screen has now been rotated, so the key settings appear to be wrong. They will also appear to be wrong in Orientation 1.

To sum up: at the moment, you can only put one set of keys in, and they will apply to all orientations automatically. It follows that the keys you've set will only work for one of the three orientations; the keys won't work properly for the other two orientations. You must set up the up/down/left/right keys, using Picodrive Key Settings, *as appropriate for the orientation you intend to use*.

Hope that's all clear to everyone :-D

Can I ask anyone who's still experiencing a problem, to try mapping up/down/left/right to 2 / 8 / 4 / 6. Then start up PicoDrive and see if 2 is always UP, 8 is always DOWN etc, irrespective of orientation. Also please state your phone when replying, as so far it appears there may be more issues with the MPx200 than with other phones.

what have you got that is so usefull for picodrive developers?

Stomski is working on a proper file requester which will allow you to browse directories in the normal way to find the ROM you want to play; he has kindly offered to donate this code to PicoDrive for Smartphone, for which I thank him. The new code should mean no annoying pause while the phone searches all its storage.

Cheers... :-)

Yesah. It's a replacement for MFC CFileDialog. Set the start directory, file extensions, wether you're saving or loading all in the constructor and then call DoModal. Check the return value, if it's IDOK then you get the path from the class. Easy.

I'm actually developing it for my DoomConfig app to select custom WAD and music files, but there's no point in keeping these things to myself.

tried the new version great job. I accidently pressed the back key in the options when going to change the orientation and the phone locked up. One of my fav games nearly worked but then he started flying!. On a positive note I could load roms which didnt work due to graphics probs now work :) Good Job!
