Guest Mr_Protozoa Posted May 11, 2004 Report Posted May 11, 2004 could the listings be set up so that it automatically scrolls down to the current time of day? So that you don't have to scroll through a whole day's listings to see what's on after Hollyoaks. Thanks,

So that you don't have to scroll through a whole day's listings to see what's on after Hollyoaks. Thanks, Oh now that is a good idea---i could maybe set it to scroll down a certain portion of the screen depending on what time it was. Unfortunatly due to the way it works i cant get it to go to the exact time. may work on it in the future tho. Thanks
Guest Coucou Posted May 11, 2004 Report Posted May 11, 2004 Orange appear to have stopped charging for the service! I've just been on their site to remind myself what the charges are and didn't get asked for money at any stage. I went to the Conditions of Use link and there's nothing mentioned there either. Cool! They must have actually responded to people voting with their feet.
Guest Ravis Posted May 11, 2004 Report Posted May 11, 2004 Ravis the problem with your idea is that people would need to connect to the internet everytime to view there TVlistings----i made this program so it would use as little bandwidth as possible yet provide as much information as possible. Good point, and I agree bandwidth is a problem to be avoided. One possible way around this would be to cache the results on the phone, so you only connect once per day or per week or whatever. Perhaps an even better solution (depending on the size of the xml vs your cab file) would be to have the software you use to generate the listings cab file get it's data from xmltv and automatically create cab files for various locations / countries. ...I'm not necessarily stuck on xmltv itself, but the people using it have already done a massive amount of work creating code to fetch and parse tv listings data into a common format. It seems to me that if you could tap into this resource you could create an app that is not only easier for you personally to maintain (no need for you to go out and get the UK listings every week) but also opens it up to a much wider user base (ie: me and the rest of the world) and (if you move to a shareware model in the future) a much larger source of paying customers as well :-)
Guest MECX Posted May 11, 2004 Report Posted May 11, 2004 Ravis--you hit the nail on the head :) ---this i exactly what im doing---ive got a program to get TV listings (uses grabbers that the XML tv people developed) but makes the download size much smaller---the XML that is produced is about 1mb in size compared to the .cab of 10kb. it is not fully automated yet but im working on this----should be easy to add more countrys and channels but a bit more development is needed. Thanks for the info i will look into the cacheing thing---but the .cabs seem to act like a compression aid reduceing the file size and it automatically deletes last weeks entrys when the new one is installed
Guest Pagemakers Posted May 11, 2004 Report Posted May 11, 2004 It would be better to have a right hand soft menu button on the TV listing page that could display the channel listings so one you are on say Monday BBC1 you could use the right menu button to select any of the other channels. Currently you have to return back to the initial menu and select TV guide/day/channel all over again which is a tad fiddly.
Guest Pagemakers Posted May 11, 2004 Report Posted May 11, 2004 Another idea would be for the menus to default to the current day and when you select the TV listing it should default to the current time.
Guest MECX Posted May 12, 2004 Report Posted May 12, 2004 cheers pagemakers will look into it, im still fairly new to this programming lark so it may take a while :-D
Guest Pagemakers Posted May 12, 2004 Report Posted May 12, 2004 Hey you're doing a good job so far! Posted from my SmartPhone!

Guest Toyota-F1.com Posted May 16, 2004 Report Posted May 16, 2004 Am I allowed to say you can download updates through your computer by going to www.msmobilenews.com/infomec? Also, I cannot wait one bit till the application is updated - I see it as unusable at the moment, it takes far too long to browse the evening programmes.
Guest MECX Posted May 16, 2004 Report Posted May 16, 2004 yeh will be updated in the next few weeks i hope (have exams at the minute) please be patiant :) yes if you go to www.msmobilenews.com/infomec you can download the file and install it like any normal cab

Guest MECX Posted May 23, 2004 Report Posted May 23, 2004 hehe beat me to it--yes they have been updated and i think saturday night about 11pm willbe the official time for upgrade now ;-) Last exam is on tuesday--after i get over the drunken mess im gonna get myself in ill get on with the update. first things will be an icon and scrolling through channels with the joystick instead of having to use the menu all the time. Im working on page up and page down but dont think it will be in the next release (unless i get a break through :-D) cheers for all the support
Guest Toyota-F1.com Posted May 23, 2004 Report Posted May 23, 2004 Honestly, you have no idea how much I'm gonna love this application once it's sorted, it'll probably be my number 1 app! "Im working on page up and page down." Like the Smart Explorer one possibly? Pressing 9 makes it go down 5 lines at once or something like that? (Sorry I don't know anything about programming  ) I can't wait I can't wait I can't wait!!! (There was no copy-paste involved there!) Yay!!!
Guest afroahmed Posted May 24, 2004 Report Posted May 24, 2004 Bloody hell make this for windows 2002 please!!!
Guest MECX Posted May 29, 2004 Report Posted May 29, 2004 TV listings hae been updated again everyone :-D im out and about so dont have my E200 to test----cheers to Meatgrinder for testing this for me :-D any problems with this weeks upgrade (or any in future) just post here----updates are still in the pipeline just a bit longer :-)
Guest Toyota-F1.com Posted May 30, 2004 Report Posted May 30, 2004 im out and about so dont have my E200 to test----cheers to Meatgrinder for testing this for me I don't totally understand - have you updated the application? :) Hope so, can't wait till it's perfect!

Guest Toyota-F1.com Posted May 31, 2004 Report Posted May 31, 2004 sorry i meant i updated the listings----actual program update shouldent be too long now--sorry for the wait 8) I don't mind waiting longer as long as it's much much much better, rather than a new version released in days and it only having tiny improvements :)
Guest Toyota-F1.com Posted June 2, 2004 Report Posted June 2, 2004 We're nearly there Toyota-F1.com, your application is nearly ready, just be a little bit more patient... :)
Guest Toyota-F1.com Posted June 4, 2004 Report Posted June 4, 2004 "Calm down Toyota-F1.com, the application is very nearly ready :D" Mr. MECX, please confirm this for me and my impatient friend!!!
Guest MECX Posted June 4, 2004 Report Posted June 4, 2004 :-D sorry been having a few problems---took into account your 'would rather have a big update than lots of small ones' comment as well. starting my new job as well so im swamped with looking for a new place to live--this in the middle of being drunk after finishing my exams isnt helping the infomec thing. i am working on it tho, as the program is getting bigger the more confuddled im getting so its taking longer than expected  cheers for the support again its nice to know that people are getting use out of my program :)
