Guest kev be Posted May 20, 2004 Report Posted May 20, 2004 Just spoke to the bloke who fits all my car kits. He has spoken to the manufacturers and they say they are aware that the output is too quiet and they expect to have a fix in place in around a week. I'll let you know what the new model sounds like as soon as its fitted. Kev.
Guest lowbug Posted May 21, 2004 Report Posted May 21, 2004 @lowbug Did you wire into your stereo? Using: - FL+ Speaker (green) FL- Speaker (green with yellow tracer) FL+ Speaker (orange) FL- Speaker (orange with white tracer) FR-SP IN+ (purple) FR-SP IN- (purple with black tracer) FR-SP OUT+ (grey) FR-SP OUT- (grey with black tracer) Where yours labelled this way? Or did you not connect those at all and just use the supplied speaker? Also did you figure out what the two white cables where for? Cheers I have a nokia mute kit so the unit plugged right in. ( so effectivly the same as the standard speaker.) I tried 3 ways, direct into the radio via the tel mute, via the nokia mute kit and the standard speaker. All 3 failed to produce more than low volume. I didn't use the speaker wires or the white wires.
Guest Sonicr360 Posted May 24, 2004 Report Posted May 24, 2004 Yet again, further proof that a car kit for a smartphone can STILL be a load of CRAP even at a different price! What the hell is going on??? Manufacturers should bloody test this BEFORE we all buy one!! If it wasnt for honest people here going out and testing it now, there would be even more unhappy E200 users!! Thanks to those who have tried it, but I am still very, very unconvinced that we are going to get a decent E200 Smartphone Car Kit! BTW, I was one of the first to try the E100 Car Kit and I cannot tell you how pathetic it is! Not only is the cradle as loose as a can of nuts, but the sound quality is so dire and poor that I am resulting back to the personal hands free kit while I am driving.... which is not very good for me :) Also when driving at 60 - 70mph try having a conversation with the little speaker they give you .... I guarantee you will be concentrating more on hearing them than you would be driving! My contract is up in 1 months time, and I would rather have the safety and reliability of a Pro Car Kit for just a basic phone, than a Smartphone that is not smart enough to have a decent Pro Hands Free Car Kit. Simon
Guest orangesp Posted May 25, 2004 Report Posted May 25, 2004 Smartphone Accessories were selling the kit - but withdrew it due to the speaker "too quiet" problem. A fix is expected soon - hopefully a one part swap-out rather than return and replace the whole kit.
Guest Rob_Quads Posted May 26, 2004 Report Posted May 26, 2004 Can someone post whats in the kit? Does it come with a speaker & mic or only a mic and you have to use your car speakers (not much use for mine as my speakers are amped) Does it play MP3's through the hands free speaker or car speakers?
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted May 26, 2004 Report Posted May 26, 2004 (very quiet) speaker and a mic... The kit has a few issues that Will can elaborate on... P
Guest freedom Posted May 28, 2004 Report Posted May 28, 2004 The following pin out diagram may assist those who are completely confused:
Guest freedom Posted May 28, 2004 Report Posted May 28, 2004 The 2 mystery white wires do nothing by the way! Scott
Guest freedom Posted June 7, 2004 Report Posted June 7, 2004 The suppliers of the Quinn carkit (ORA) have been liasing with their manufacturers and providing them with feedback about the problems some people have experienced with the carkit. Accordingly a revised pre-production unit is now being tested by ORA and all being well this should be in production within around 4 weeks. The manual is also being re-written. Scott

Scott By the time they get thier arse in gear and produce a proper working kit i think I will have got rid of the phone.
Guest lowbug Posted June 14, 2004 Report Posted June 14, 2004 I would like to go on record about Freedom Mobiles. I bought the kit from them and yes it had problems, but not only did they ask for feedback they dealt with the sound problem ( which is totally out of thier hands ) professionally and have promised a new kit. Top job freedom!! :D Thax Freedom! :D
Guest lowbug Posted July 1, 2004 Report Posted July 1, 2004 NEW UPDATE!! "It is with a sense of regret that ORA has made the decision to pull development of its e200 car kit. The Quinn, which was scheduled to go into full production this month, has been indefinitely suspended. ORA has spent many months working with developers, manufacturers, etc in pursuit of a complete install car kit for the e200 platform. Unfortunately, hindered by the lack of true car kit compatibility within the handset at operating system/hardware level the project had ceased to progress and a decision was made with great deliberation." Cheers Ora...  I simply don't understand the comment 'hindered by the lack of true car kit compatibility within the handset at operating system/hardware level' ?? The Output from the kit was too low!! Not the phone... Thats the problem. The thing that makes me ANGRY with ora is the fact reading the above they clearly sold BETA units... see line 'The Quinn, which was scheduled to go into full production this month' Another Smartphone let down...
Guest Rob_Quads Posted July 1, 2004 Report Posted July 1, 2004 Well - think thats sealed the coffin on the SPV then - won't be getting another one :D Recently i got a cheap 7210 as a backup phone for snowboarding (SPV did not like getting wet) what can i say - over a week on standy and still battery left and a good range of car kits to choose from. The SPV might be able to do all sorts of flash stuff but shame it lacks some of the most basic accessories
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted July 1, 2004 Report Posted July 1, 2004 Outrageous! Is is being sold for other handsets? P
Guest freedom Posted July 1, 2004 Report Posted July 1, 2004 Thanks Lowbug for posting this, you beat me to it. ORA have told us that the whole Quinn project has been shelved, and the cradles they had plans to release for other phones are included. However, they are hoping to source a different car kit altogether for the XDA2 Scott
Guest lowbug Posted July 1, 2004 Report Posted July 1, 2004 The funny thing Orange really think they can sell these smartphones to business customers! Without a car kit the smartphone will never be more than a toy for the office. I hold no hope in the smartphone platform. It now can be nothing more for a springboard for people like Nokia to sit back laugh and say ' i told you so ', they will watch and learn from the mistakes and make money. Orange are pathetic... ORA i'm not surprised , i have had the misfortune to deal with them before and they let me down. Freedom have been very good! Top marks :D and me.. Im P***ED OFF!
Guest mcwarre Posted July 1, 2004 Report Posted July 1, 2004 Whats wrong with a bluetooth headset for business customers (apart from pathetic E-200 battery life when using bluetooth)?
Guest mavisdavis Posted July 1, 2004 Report Posted July 1, 2004 i've never bothered about a car kit even more so now the E200 is so incompatible with them. At £150 with no other option but to purchase a new cradle with every upgrade I opted for this > www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&langId=-1&catalogId=1751&productId=90807&Trail=C$cip=12724>C$cip=12771>C$cip=12774>FC$Brands=Aiwa&categoryId=12774 as it has an 3.5 jack AUX input (bottom right) and bought This aswell and took the cassette end off and replaced it with a 3.5 jack plug. So for £140 I now have and incar MP3/CD Player which is cool and a hands free kit for every phone I ever purchase the most I'll have to do is buy a 79p adapter incase the phones jack socket changes back to 3.5 :D
Guest lowbug Posted July 1, 2004 Report Posted July 1, 2004 Whats wrong with a bluetooth headset for business customers (apart from pathetic E-200 battery life when using bluetooth)? The battery life :D Nothing to hold the phone :D
Guest Rob_Quads Posted July 1, 2004 Report Posted July 1, 2004 Whats wrong with a bluetooth headset for business customers (apart from pathetic E-200 battery life when using bluetooth)? I would say the battery life is a VERY important factor considering how dire it is, using bluetooth for a 1h journey to work and back could mean 1 day of life!!!! Personally I don't want to have to be messing around turning bluetooth on and off etc. I want to get into my car, put the phone in the cradle and job done. The professional soulution that is available for virutally every other phone marketed at Business people. Could you ever see Nokia not releasing a car kit for the 6210?

Excatly! :D The only reason there is so many 6210/6310 is because the phones do what they say on the tin and the kit's are all compatible and do the job. Thats what business wants, not changing full car kits kits in and out every time.. :D
Guest freedom Posted July 2, 2004 Report Posted July 2, 2004 Since emailing all our customers one has replied to say they have hooked up a cheap additional amplifier to improve the sound level from the speaker. He is going to let me know costs etc, but we are looking at this as a possibility for customers to retain their kits and achieve a working solution.
Guest dh Posted July 5, 2004 Report Posted July 5, 2004 If this solution does work, are you able to sell kits to those who have been waiting, I'm stuck with the E200 so have to have something
