The C500 will not have Bluetooth...

How do you know? If it doesn't it will be a pretty useless handset.

Still prefer the MPX100

i could have sworn that when i checked the image the sizes where correct

edit, mine was slightly out, corrected on first page, but anyways, its roughly same width as e100, but a lot less high, and a lot thinner, the sizes are given there in mm

Well, it's the first of the SPV range (not sure what HTC call this range), apart from their "M1000", I suppose, with a substantially different design.

Anyone to whom that would appeal, i.e. the 'younger' generation who want the smallest phones possible, also want stylish phones that don't look stupidly ugly / dull / boring, and generally want a well known brand. I can see it being a flop. HTCs only advantage was having the most feature packed phones around, which this obviously isn't.

It seemed more than that. Admittedly he's got some chip on his shoulder about MVPs, but he's also just incredibly rude. This also provides some amusement, imo.

[sorry to be a bit off-topic.]

And in reporting the news JPZR says

"... it comes from the same source that published first pictures of Motorola MPx200 so it seems to be reliable... ... "

ok, let's assume its looks and feature list are genuine (let me however just lough out loudly at the mentioned standbye time; HAHAHAHA).

Who of us (experienced with the SPV E200 / Qtek 8080) would buy it ?

Definitely not me.

There were too many bad experiences with my Qtek 8080, deep disappointment about the actual performance and hesitation to trust in HTC's (and its distributors' ?) customer service and care !

Why stick to a certain brand ?

I had many Digital Camera models by Canon. My next will also be a Canon, just because I am keen to work with their next gen of digicams and the quality, usability, performance, soft/firm-ware and customer care are excellent. This way they "caught" me as their satisfied customer.

Same with HP in terms of printers or Nokia in terms of reliable phones (had almost all models up to the 6310, whose battery standby time is still unbeaten; however I regard them now as too conservative and just selling "yesterday's technology" at the expense of innovative products).

Anyway...

HTC's Qtek 8080 (which I still like) did NOT convince me in a way as being prepared to spend an other bunch of Euros "just to check" how their new model performs.

I'm a customer no beta or alpha tester as I don't pay with play money but genuine Euros !

In case HTC (or any of their distributors) should ask me to help them test their model I would love to participate - and maybe I would actually buy it if it convinces me.

HTC or whoever is responsible:

Release your next - profound - Firmware Upgrade first and convince us potential customers what lies in the existing hardware design.

Then we can talk about buying new models.

Ever heard of something called Life-cycle Management btw ?

Regards

Gerhard

It was only a few weeks ago, I reported on here about a C500 being released in July, to which people advised me I was probably being mislead (replacement model for E200 that I was going to buy but backed out).

Now it appears that there are so called images of this phone. However, the image description I was given by the Orange Tech Support is nothing like the image I am seeing here in this forum.... so I have doubts!

Not only that, but if this is the design of the C500, what about a car kit? Does it mean yet again that you either have to buy a brand new kit or a cradle for a Universal Hands Free Kit? Who knows...... to me its the same old story, new phone comes out, new design and still appears to be lacking something..... maybe Bluetooth? Accessories perhaps?

I personally I am quite fedup with the Smartphone and am going to revert back to a phone that is a phone, has good Bluetooth and a proper hands free car kit that works on the stereo car speakers and does not show a hinder in poor sound quality. (Reading reports on the E200 Car Kit has not inspired me to make that move, and why should I when it appears that the C500 is coming out).

I bought the Smartphone for Business use, but I really do admit I have had more problems with this than any type of phone I have ever owned.

To me, there are too many problems, too many bugs and too many idiots at MS promoting a product that has too many flaws!

Maybe its just me :)

OK there are bugs but there is far more function built into your average Smartphone when compared to any other normal phone! We are basing our decisions on the asthetics of the C500, what if it had amazing internals? We'd all be saying "Well its a bit ugly but its sooooo good!". All i'm saying is that a lot of people seem to be put off Smartphones all of a sudden just because of the look of the C500, all i have to say is, do you remember the look of the MPx100?! :)

If they intend to release the C500, then they have to do it right! I am not bothered about how a phone looks, but if it gives me the full ability to run my business remotely, or have the ability to support Blue Tooth stacks, and a good reliable and excellent car kit then I am all for it.

If Nokia and Panasonic can do it, why cant these guys? My last phone was a Panasonic G600 - It was available in early 1997/98 and it was the lightest phone available. I changed to Orange E100 and realised that I can do without the functions of the phone. Not only that, but it was only one year ago the E100 was around, then shortly after the E200 and the inclusion of Windows Mobile. Now another phone is being released, with a "2nd edition" version!

Why oh why can they not allow the E100 / E200 be upgraded? Answer: In my mind, most likely Hardware; and that is the problem.... product is rushed out and just as the latest product is rushed out to the stores/shops, another one is straight into development.

I retained my Panasonic for 6 years..... it done exactly what it said on the box! It worked!!

At the moment, I still remain unconvinced about the Smartphone. Just a sour taste has been left, not helped by Orange and their so called Support and Customer Services!

From my perspective, the more options consumers have for smartphones the better. Like most enthusiasts here, I'm looking for those incremental reasons to upgrade. Does this product have it? Probably not for me or most others here. I love my mpx200 for smartphone features and sound quality, feel, etc., and will likely purchase a mpx220 when they become available, assuming it has same feel and quality of mpx200. I'm actually more excited today with Sansdisk announcing the actual release in the $120 (US) price range of an WiFi 256MB storage card.

We'll post more news / specs as we get them (read the full thread by clicking 'view comments' for full lowdown and opinions!).

Orange together with microsoft went to HTC factory in taiwan to produce the first spv (O2 has done the same).

I used to work for a PC manufacter in the R&D team and we was developing the next PC's before the previous one was even being sold.. thats life unfortunately..
