Guest beersoft Posted June 20, 2004 Report Posted June 20, 2004 mono, i thought it was to adminster beatings to the members who wind you up :D later Owen "allowed free food, but must be kept away from the bar"
Guest midnight Posted June 20, 2004 Report Posted June 20, 2004 Well, one idea we had was that Kumite will be finished for the next event, so we can have a knockout competition, with prizes of course :D
Guest cybercamel Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 I guess a lot of the reasons people don't come to these events (other than working or being double booked) is that because of the nature of the forum itself. It is split into two distinct groups, those of us who are not techy, and those of you who are. For those of us who are not experts it can be a little daunting, and I did get the impression the previous meets were aimed at the techies. If it were aimed as an event called say, 'get to know your smartphone' with lots of workshops you might get more of a response from us non-techies. For example there a lots of applications out there that I would love, like the golf yardage application, now if that was available at the meet with someone on hand to show me how to use it, I would come up just for that! Some more examples might be PocketTV, email and WMP. I love the phone (well the concept :D ) I would just like to be able to use it to it's full capabilities, and while the forum does a great job there's nothing like being shown personally! Of course a few bevies afterwards wouldn't go amiss either. :D Hope I haven't rambled on to much. Cheers, Mark.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 Fantastic suggestion! This is what we can't tell from those that don't turn up! I'll bear that in mind for the next meet, "introductory" and howto sessions for new users.
Guest Disco Stu Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 Cheers CyberCamel, that's what I was trying to say. Perhaps an introduction to xml and registry ? Things that beginners shy away from messing with.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 The registry might be a little tricky (its MASSIVE), but homescreen customisation would be cool...
Guest Disco Stu Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 Okay but I was just thinking of being told what the registry actually is, what a key is etc. The only time I've gone in there was for Pocket Candy but I got lost with the font-changing instructions. I'm not looking for a complete guide to Windows but there's perhaps a gap to be bridged there. Whether or not this is appropriate for a MoDaCo event I trust you to judge :D
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted June 22, 2004 Report Posted June 22, 2004 I could use a beginners guide to xml  :D
Guest midnight Posted June 22, 2004 Report Posted June 22, 2004 need to get Neil Enns over to chat to beginners about xml/homescreen customisation :D
Guest cybercamel Posted June 22, 2004 Report Posted June 22, 2004 Glad to put a useful suggestion forward. I did get that impression Disco Stu, thought I'd take it a step further :D I do hope that there are some older users out there as well, if I was to come along I'd hate to be called Dad! :D
Guest squall Posted June 22, 2004 Report Posted June 22, 2004 to be honist at last meet i was one of the youngest there. Average age must be about 28 i think (you know awarner off sets at least 3 of the young folk himself:P)
Guest Disco Stu Posted June 22, 2004 Report Posted June 22, 2004 Right then, me & Cybercamel are coming if we get OAP discounts and none of you youngsters pinch our zimmer frames :D
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted June 24, 2004 Report Posted June 24, 2004 I think we need a 'no kilts' rule at the next meet, he he! On a serious note, i'd be happy to hold sessions on XML, Smart Device development, Smartphone HTML development, Exchange, Registry, Making the most of your Smartphone or just about anything else - if people can put up with me! P Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest squall Posted June 24, 2004 Report Posted June 24, 2004 "]I think we need a 'no kilts' rule at the next meet, he he! Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest nedge2k Posted June 24, 2004 Report Posted June 24, 2004 :D Im happy as long as we can smoke indoors, beersoft is given limited access to alcohol, squall is either made to wear a pair of trousers or at least some underwear :D and we can smoke indoors   I think the idea of customisation walkthroughs is great for the less experienced members. The location of the last meet was great although a different, smoking permitted, venue would be better  (can you see a pattern here) So to summerise: Smoking London Smoking Lap dancers (again :D ) Alcohol (for some NOT for others  ) Underwear (for ALL!) ...er...and phone stuff :D
Guest beersoft Posted June 24, 2004 Report Posted June 24, 2004 ok, next time i'll have breakfast (or at least eat before beer) we could always have the next meet at a lapdancing club, as it meets most of the requirements that nedge has smoking indoors - check beer - check lapdancing - check tables to sit around and chat - check later Owen
Guest midnight Posted June 24, 2004 Report Posted June 24, 2004 chat???? you chat in lapdancing clubs?
Guest beersoft Posted June 24, 2004 Report Posted June 24, 2004 yep, in between dances, i need something to do if im not allowed to drink :D later Owen
Guest squall Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 how about a hardware section, maybe could show people how to strip phones and show what kind of thing is inside the phone. Could also bring along our modded phones and show them off?
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 I don't think encouraging people to pull their handsets apart is the best of ideas tbh... But a showcase of modded and painted SPV's would be cool :D
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 I don't think encouraging people to pull their handsets apart is the best of ideas tbh... Awww :'( it's easy, honest :D
Guest martin Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 how about a hardware section, maybe could show people how to strip phones and show what kind of thing is inside the phone. Does this mean Jacek and his hammer will be getting a stall :D
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 And then the conversation went down hill  :D as long as he behaves himself :-k
Guest Brody Posted June 27, 2004 Report Posted June 27, 2004 But will others? I can't see Jacek attending resulting in a civil meeting tbh but having said that i'd actually like to meet him and have a chat, it'd be interesting to actually speak to him!
