WM 2003 for MPx200 no longer available

like i said before, my only disappointment (aside from it not being a motorola released thing, but can understand their position on it may be hurting sales for upcoming lines (THERE POSITION NOT MINE :D)) is the lack of MMS, Overall there isn't a helluva lot new for wm2003, Athestically anyway. I mean i know the .net framework and all of that is there, And great but when it comes down to it the general user is most impressed by big look changes, and really wm2003 doesn't have many.

But eitherway Big thumbs up to WM2003 and its releasor

May Motorola, Ms and AT&T never find you hiding in a spiderhole south of baghdad. :D

Since we are talking about the features of WM2K3, let me ask about the mp3's. I read that smartphone 2003 was suppose to allow mp3's as ringtones. Where on the 2002 platform, you had to convert them in order for them to be ringtones.

I have tried to place mp3s as ringtones with this upgrade, but the don't show up in the ringtones list.

Does anyone have any info on this?

Thanks!

What I still don't understand is why Motorola or AT&T would give a crap about releasing 2003 for the MPx200 in the first place. What new features does it add (other than .net)? What does it take away from the upcoming MPx220?

nothing.

I thought it was called support when a company gives the user the latest and greatest for their phone. When a company has the latest and greatest and decides *NOT* to give it to the user, I would call that POOR support... or neglect. I'm not picky... Either term works in this case.

If they don't like this being out and they're upset, I feel better about downloading the "illegal" ROM because it serves them right. They show off the MPx200 *with* 2003 on it and just decide not to release the upgrade. *THAN* Motorola gives it out to their precious chosen few and screw the public once more.

I guess by this example of "support" we can expect all future smartphones from Motorola or AT&T to be stuck with whatever it ships... even if they fix it and make it better for internal use and their "elite" MVPs.

I was all excited to buy an MPx220 but now I'm not so sure. They don't care about the customers at all. The HP6300 may be a bit large, but at least HP releases regular ROM upgrades to fix problems.

And maybe the company to blame is solely AT&T. After all, they have the worst customer service in the wireless industry for a reason.

Hi,

I'm considering flashing mp mpx200 to 2003 when it's available again. However, as some people have said it's still a bit buggy, I'd just like to know if there is any way of reverting back to 2002 if I'm not happy?

thanks,

craig

Has anyone figured out how to get static icons on the http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewforum.php?f=43>home screen using the DEFAULT layout?

I've used RJ Plug-in combined with new layouts, and that works fine.

However, I would like the default WM2003 layout but with static icons.

Thank you,

The support in here is incredible.  :D

Don't think you can edit the default layout, just have to find/make one you like.

Which layout are you using? All the layouts I tried give an XML error.

There's another thing that I noticed with this update. Go in to the profiles and select the loud option under "system sound volume". Then, when you begin dialing a number you'll notice how loud the speaker gets!

However, when you connect a call on speaker the volume decreases substantially.

This is promising because I have always felt like the speaker wasn't loud enough on the original ROM's.

@nonymus, I know you stated that you would watch the forums for feedback. I was wondering if there is anyway to increase the speakerphone volume while on a call when you release one of your new updates?

I like the loudness when dialing and wish the volume was the same once you are on a call on speakerphone!

Thanks for the unbelievable 2003 ROM, and keep up the good work.

There are many of us who are thoroughly grateful!

Typical! Get bogged down at work and look what I miss! I was only talking to the the orange chaps last week about this subject, 25 pages of posts later and I'm still in two minds.

As a business tool, I think the MPX rox. However, I've also got an SPV M1000 (Orange XDA2) mainly for the "push" capabilities of Exchange 2003. So an MPX200 with the 2003 capabilities would be a killer for me - Convienient to carry and infinitely more usuable as a phone. I can live without bluetooth for now and whilst a camera is a bonus (will have to buy one) the lack of MMS is not good. Whilst I didn't send many, being able to recieve them was quite useful.

Now, should the Rom ever surface again, would I upgrade? Tough one.

I'm glad its been done - At least now when orange (or any service provider) say the phone isn't capable of supporting 2003 we'll know they're lying! Hopefully, this may (although I seriously doubt it) make services providers look at introducing it. Remember, they've got to support it.

Would an official release impact sales of the forthcoming MPX220? An interesting one. To some extent yes. I was't going to upgrade to the MPX220, as it didn't offer enough new features to warrant an upgrade. However, as an existing customer, an official software upgrade would give me more faith in motorola as a company. Think of it in PC terms - If you'd bought a Dell PC with 2k on it, you'd expect Dell to offer you XP as an upgrade option but obviously, it would work a lot more quicker on newer hardware and possibly have a few more bells and whistles.

I'll sit back and watch this space - It's going to be an interesting few weeks!

This may or may not be a dumb question, but i'm just wondering if the Flip to Answer and External Display settings are still configurable on the 2003 ROM ?

Yes they are.

I also think the speakerphone volume is way to low on this ROM.

I can hardly hear anything and wish to make it louder.

Is there a reg-edit for this??

One brilliant positive, is applications like "Picodrive" run 100% faster and smoother :D

Has anyone tried Spritebackup ?Is it working with mpx200 2003OS ???

I have done a full flash and restore with the anony 2003 ROM. Sprite works great with the 2003. Sprite is the best backup program for the SmartPhone. It works.

I have sprite and it sure does save a lot of time.

However, there seems to be some files it doesn't recover properly since I noticed, upon a restore, that I had to re-enter the license keys for some of my software, but the real pain was having a new PID on my Mobipocket :-(
