Guest thenet Posted July 22, 2004 Report Posted July 22, 2004 Hi thenet, Personally I think that Motorola has a database of which software is installed on which (series) of imeinumbers. So I don't think you'll get your warranty back.... So if i don't upgrade to wm2003 but upgrade to only new 2002 rom this will void warranty ?
Guest juliankay Posted July 22, 2004 Report Posted July 22, 2004 I don't think Moto has a database of software versions. I just sent my phone of for repair and it came back with 'BT Mobile' branded software (for no reason) and they had no idea what software they had put on it, and had no idea what software it had on it before they flashed it. I think it prolly depends where you get your phone repaired but I had mine done by the Motorola Repair Center in Ashford, Kent. I had a go at them about the 'new' BT Mobile branding, and they just asked me to send it back to be flashed again. If you get a 2002 rom back on it, and make it look English... I don't think they'll notice... EDIT: The reason I say make it look English is because I've got a German 2002 ROM and if 2003 borks for me, that's my back-up plan.
Guest kyrkesmith Posted July 22, 2004 Report Posted July 22, 2004 I agree. There are too many service centres etc. where it can be flashed legitimately for them to keep track of it. I wouldn't like to risk it, but I wouldn't be surprised if if you sent it off to be repaired for a hardware issue they still fixed it under warranty.
Guest pembo Posted July 22, 2004 Report Posted July 22, 2004 Just a quick question, what is the External Logo display on the 2003 ROM? (when the phone is opened)
Guest thenet Posted July 22, 2004 Report Posted July 22, 2004 Thank you for your answer. I bought it from Hongkong (But I'm form thailand) I think motorola service center at hongkong (It's name TSN) will not stick on rom version. and if i have to claim it i have to fly to hongkong 555 :P
Guest alecs Posted July 22, 2004 Report Posted July 22, 2004 Hi people I have installed W2003 and now i can't find where can I switch my IRDA on/off. Maybe I installed something wrong???? :? Please help
Guest theiz Posted July 22, 2004 Report Posted July 22, 2004 Hi people I have installed W2003 and now i can't find where can I switch my IRDA on/off. Maybe I installed something wrong???? :? Please help Welcome to the forum! Do you know RTFM? Replace the M by the P. Where P stands for Post. Reflash the phone and reboot it; then you'll be able to turn it of. By the way; which version of ROM are you using? Cartman or later?
Guest theiz Posted July 22, 2004 Report Posted July 22, 2004 I don't think Moto has a database of software versions. I just sent my phone of for repair and it came back with 'BT Mobile' branded software (for no reason) and they had no idea what software they had put on it, and had no idea what software it had on it before they flashed it. Checked it at work today (serve as a store manager for household appliances); most of the service centers keep track of updates etc. Also, Motorola (and most other phonebrands) HAS a database of all the IMEI numbers and corresponding sw-versions. At least they do in Holland and Belgium. That's the most info I was able to get. Personally I would take the risk, but it's up to you people now....
Guest theiz Posted July 22, 2004 Report Posted July 22, 2004 Just a quick question, what is the External Logo display on the 2003 ROM? (when the phone is opened) You'll have the same options as on the WM2002 ROM
Guest rsvhaantje Posted July 22, 2004 Report Posted July 22, 2004 Is anyone else having problems with the up-to-date (UTD) feature working with an Exchange 2003 SP1 server? (yes I have appplied the the SMS subject line hotfix) I have logging set, and the SMS message leaves the exchange server, just the device does nothing with the SMS message. I confident the message is making it to the phone, as my speakers make the 'noise' we all can expect to hear when the phone is actively sending/recieving. Any ideas anyone? How do you set this up? i am using this too but never used up to date notification
Guest pembo Posted July 22, 2004 Report Posted July 22, 2004 You'll have the same options as on the WM2002 ROM I'm refering to when the phone is open? At the moment when its open I have "ORANGE" displayed on the LCD, whats displayed on the new rom? The date/time?
Guest theiz Posted July 22, 2004 Report Posted July 22, 2004 I'm refering to when the phone is open? At the moment when its open I have "ORANGE" displayed on the LCD, whats displayed on the new rom? The date/time? Sorry, had to read more carefully  It will either display the 'M' logo by Motorola or it will display the normal settings (as configured by you in the menu). And this could be the networkname.

Guest pembo Posted July 22, 2004 Report Posted July 22, 2004 I just updated, and thought'd Id document some of the things i noticed here for anyone who's wanting to try this ROM but is still unsure. Start Up / Shut Down sounds - they could be turned on with a Reg Edit in the 2002 ROM, but are standard in this one. External LCD Screen - before when i flipped it open, the Orange logo displayed, now it keeps the Date/Time there. ClearType - This is quite good actually, although its personal preferance, can be turned off using SmartEase Running Apps - The phone is unlocked as default, but when you run/try to install Unsigned Apps it shows up a warning about it - this only happens the first time you run an application. Speed - It seems to shutdown a lot faster, not too sure about Start Up thou... general running speeds seem to be around the same File Manager & Resource Manager - These are useful for beginners, although the Binary's explorer and task manager programs are much better. Internet Explorer - The desktop and column modes in this make browsing the internet much better on your phone, you can have it so sites display as they would on a PC (it doesnt resize images) or so you dont have to scroll horizontally and can view it in one column. Or of course, the same as 2002. Thats it for now, ill post more info such as battery times later.
Guest jsz Posted July 23, 2004 Report Posted July 23, 2004 Thank you pembo for that post... answered most of my questions... but what about backing up the current ROM that is on the phone?
Guest cwrabel Posted July 23, 2004 Report Posted July 23, 2004 I would just like to say I for one am very happy that this upgrade has been made available. I would not be buying an mpx220 anyway since the company I work for does not allow camera phones in the work place. I plan on keeping my mpx200 till it no longer continues to function. I plan on doing the upgrade sometime this week. Thanks for all your help.
Guest pembo Posted July 23, 2004 Report Posted July 23, 2004 Backing up a current ROM isnt possible, but if you look hard enough there are links to a few 2002 ROMs out there that you could use to revert back too. (www.mpx200.org have a firmware request forum for a start) I've had the ROM on for about 6 hours now, Battery Life is still good (looks to be a big imrpovement) and I've been able to make and place calls send/recieve texts etc.. with no problems at all. Having to use the Direction Up/Down key as opposed to the 0 Key to cycle through words can tkae some getting used to, but im getting there with it. I've only ran into one issue so far, thats with the Eclipse First Wave Demo, it doesnt seem to run at all. So far though, a great improvement EDIT: One slightly annoying thing, is when you go into your inbox and use the "New" softkey, it brings up a menu saying 1. SMS 2 ActiveSync (for emails) - id personally prefer it if it went straight to SMS Compose.. but still :?
Guest dannymah Posted July 23, 2004 Report Posted July 23, 2004 where is the exact path to get those WM2002 ROMs image by version or models ??
Guest pembo Posted July 23, 2004 Report Posted July 23, 2004 We're not allowed to post direct links on the forums as they're illegal ROMs and Modaco can't really be seen to allow the trading of such info.. Theres a link to a site offering a WM 2002 German ROM (version [v1.0.52.90]) on page 35 of this thread, and www.mpx200.org have a Firmware REquest board in their forums where you can request specific firmware versions etc.
Guest chudy Posted July 23, 2004 Report Posted July 23, 2004 incidentally has anyone tried going to the MyWindowsMobile.com site posted at msmobiles.com? if you use the drop down menus and select MPX200 from ATT it comes up with options for both Smartphone 2002 and Smartphone 2003!! Do they know something we dont? I wonder if it means there indeed is an ATT WM2003 firmware coming down the pipeline? ...but then again it could be a typo... chudy
Guest jjunke Posted July 24, 2004 Report Posted July 24, 2004 I just bought an Mpx200 off amazon, and i had a few questions. I've been reading various pages on this site and am a bit confused. 1.) How many different versions of the update are there? I downloaded the one off msmobiles with the name SUPER_MOTO_2_MPX200(2003). Is that th emost current, non german one? 2.) What is SMS MMS? Is it messenger? 3.) Is reception really that bad with ATT? Thanks for all your help!
Guest Pigo Posted July 24, 2004 Report Posted July 24, 2004 ok... I read a lot of pages now.... but I can't seem to find the link to the new rom. only thing I can find is a link to a msmobile.com page wich says this download is not available for 2/3 weeks. anybody have a (working) link? Pigo
Guest kyrkesmith Posted July 24, 2004 Report Posted July 24, 2004 Er, it is on the msmobiles site again. There's a link on the right hand side, in the site news section. Not allowed to give direct links to illegal ROMs here.
Guest barnyr Posted July 24, 2004 Report Posted July 24, 2004 Thanks so much. I upgraded to 2003 and it works great! I could not get caller ID on the face of my phone while running 2002, but now if finally works. I assumed the problem was that the phone could not sort my 4000 contacts fast enough. Thanks again. Barny R
