Guest Noose Posted July 24, 2004 Report Posted July 24, 2004 Before writing this I really did go through every single post. I really did. So I know that I'm not the first person to ask this question. And I know that there have been some suggestions, but none of them solves this problem. Like some others, I'm running WinMe on my computer (on all my computers, actually). The only XP machines my wife and I use are our work computers, and we don't have admin priveleges on them, so we can't do any installing. And like some others, I get the "bad luck" screen when running the installer. This is with the .inf provided in the .rar installed (and all older smartphone .inf files deleted). I'm coming to the conclusion that, absent a WinMe patch for the installer, I'm a bit out of luck. So here's the question: am I right? Does this installer really not work with WinMe? Let me put that another way. Has anyone SUCCESSFULLY done this upgrade with a PC running Windows Me?
Guest prelude Posted July 25, 2004 Report Posted July 25, 2004 We're not allowed to post direct links on the forums as they're illegal ROMs and Modaco can't really be seen to allow the trading of such info.. Theres a link to a site offering a WM 2002 German ROM (version [v1.0.52.90]) on page 35 of this thread, and www.mpx200.org have a Firmware REquest board in their forums where you can request specific firmware versions etc. I've tested most of the 2002 roms and found that version 1.0.12.63 is about the most stable so far. The other stable rom version would be 1.0.48.85. The rest have jerky mp3 playback, jerky rings, repeated last word for T9, hanging, slow response, etc.
Guest Dr. Cheeks Posted July 25, 2004 Report Posted July 25, 2004 Flashing phones always makes me overly cautious  , so a teeny question. After reading through this forum for hours and hours, I haven't found this 'unclearity' yet: There seems to be two paths to get an English WM2003 MPx200. The original path was a three step process: German-only ROM update -> language pack update -> GSM-stack update. Then a ROM version was made available integrating the first two steps: a multi-language ROM update (hurray! :D ). Also after flashing this version, the so called "MPX200 2003 Update (2)", the GSM-stack update still has to be applied. However, the only GSM-stack update package I can find is the one from the original three step German uprade path and there it repeatedly states in the accompanying readme: !!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU HAVE TO FLASH THE GERMAN MPX200-2003 ROM FIRST !!!!!!!!!!!!!! It could be that this warning is about only flashing a WM2003 phone (and not a phone which is still WM2002) and the language of that WM2003 is not important. Then again, the word 'GERMAN' does appear in the cautionary lines… :-s So: can this GSM-stack update be used on a phone which was flashed using the multi-language ROM update ('version 2')? PS: And really a utmost thank you!!! To the people who make these ROMS available. R-e-s-p-e-c-t! =D> (And of course also a big thank you to the people answering all the questions of insecure folks like me. :P )
Guest KaZoN Posted July 25, 2004 Report Posted July 25, 2004 Just upgraded to WM2003 and it seems to work great :P A big thankyou and respect to the people who made this possible
Guest pembo Posted July 25, 2004 Report Posted July 25, 2004 So: can this GSM-stack update be used on a phone which was flashed using the multi-language ROM update ('version 2')? In short, yes - it can. Its working on mine perfectly.

Guest Posted July 25, 2004 Report Posted July 25, 2004 Just upgraded my phone, its great, but I now can't install any digital concept games as they won't install to the storage card. I assume its because its called something else now. Anyone know of any fixes for this. did a search but turned up nothing.
Guest Toe Posted July 26, 2004 Report Posted July 26, 2004 you can turn irda off in the Beams submenu of settings.
Guest equis Posted July 26, 2004 Report Posted July 26, 2004 So I have had the 2003 rom for about 2 - 3 weeks now, all of the sudden my battery is only lasting one day. I charge it up, its full and by the end of the day with about 10 calls the battery is on its way out, when I look at it, it reads 38% left, and refresh and it keeps going down till its about 10% and the phone turns off!!!! Anyone else having this problem or is it a faulty battery?
Guest pembo Posted July 26, 2004 Report Posted July 26, 2004 Try doing a full charge on the battery and hard-resetting again, see if that solves you problems.
Guest CodesRaider Posted July 26, 2004 Report Posted July 26, 2004 Hi prelude/all, I see the repeated last word for T9 in the WM2003 too. So I guess this is a bug from Microsoft then. Is there any way we can solve or workaround this problem? I send a lot of SMS and this problem is really bugging me. Other than that, I really LOVE WM2003 in my mpx200 phone. I wish @nonymous could work on the WM2003 Second Edition and make it available for all of us too! From the WM2003 Second Edition Emulator, WM2003 Second Edition has the MMS functionality built into the OS already! No more MMS client needed.
Guest peewee_herman Posted July 26, 2004 Report Posted July 26, 2004 Other than that, I really LOVE WM2003 in my mpx200 phone. I wish @nonymous could work on the WM2003 Second Edition and make it available for all of us too! I guess thats what we all wish! Maybe if we all ask him real nice? BTW: i didnt even thank him for WM2003 first edition. Way to go @nonimous! (and of course a big thumbs up for everyone in this topic)
Guest juliankay Posted July 26, 2004 Report Posted July 26, 2004 Installed it today, and it's running great. I did the reg tweak to change the button lights, and I'm happy with that. Could anyone find or know of any tweaks for the following: Zero button no longer changes T9 word. (I know it's the down arrow, but i keep pressing zero by mistake!) While typing the first letter is no longer uppercase. :P Thanks to everyone involved in getting this ROM out here for us!
Guest pembo Posted July 26, 2004 Report Posted July 26, 2004 While typing the first letter is no longer uppercase. :P This one has annoyed me too, before it did it automatically at the start, and then after you put a full stop, but now you have to do it manually by pressing the * key before it all the time... I don't know if there is a reg tweak for it, it'd be nice though...
Guest papasula Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 Does anyone have this...I've got 14 files in my "Windows" directory that are taking up an enormous amount of room. Half of them are 2.7MB and the other half are ~280 KB. They are related to SMS but it seems funny to have them taking up so much room. Are these built in the ROM or is it OK to remove them? "MsgQueueDataFileMicrosoft Broadcast Message SMS Protocol (Receive Only)" is an example of these files.
Guest Reveal996 Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 Ok, I managed to upgrade my cell, thanks to the previous experiences of all you folks! Now one more and last question: I upgraded to 2003, I downloaded language fix and gsm fix. I did each time a hard reset. I'll do a new hard reset when the battery will be again fully charged in order to set it with the new operating system. Am I missing something? Please, let me know. Thanx again!
Guest wardy Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 Hi Guys, I have read all the posts and I was about to take the plunge when , the link off site for the ROM is saying not available. Does anyone know why?
Guest Godfather Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 I just installed W2003 and I found out how to add my email, but on the Home Screen in the mail section it only shows SMS, is there a way to have it show email also like in 2002? Also i seem to be having trouble connecting to the internet. I try going to a site and it tells me Unable to connect, why? And i thought with the W2003 OS you could use mp3's for a ringtone? thanks! Big thanks to @nonyms for the W2003 ROM update!
Guest Reveal996 Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 Hello! Who ca suggest me an email client to install on mpx200 with wm 2003? Thnx for your help!
Guest ShinyBill Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 And i thought with the W2003 OS you could use mp3's for a ringtone? Can't help with e-mails as I don't use that function on my phone, but ringtones are stored as wma (Windows Media Audio) files rather than in mp3 format, which makes sense on a Microsoft-based phone! Another plus to WM2003 is that they do not have to be put into the Application DataSound folder, but anywhere you wish (even on a Storage Card!) which is much more useful and saves space on your phone!
Guest josephccy Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 hi, im new here. i have spent 10 hour to read this treat. & i have ready try 30++ time to flash my ROM to WM2003. MY system is WinXp with anti virus, Sync Ver3.71, ..... plsss really need help since all the people say that its better than WM2002
Guest ShinyBill Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 What goes wrong with the installation? There are many places it can go wrong, it would be helpful if we knew what you have tried, etc.
Guest eight_tracks Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 Yea WM2003!! 4 days off and I still havent needed to charge that battery. My one complaint about the phone has been fixed! Its just a shame that Motorola or ATT didn't offer the upgrade, even as an extra charge...
Guest josephccy Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 I Dun know what is the reason also?! always Bad news!!
Guest ShinyBill Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 Lead me through what you do when you try to upgrade, I'll see if I can help!
