Guest www.msmobiles.com Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 I would like to mention only that it is good both for Microsoft and for Motorola that this ROM upgrade to 2003 for MPx200 is available. Microsoft: because it is spreading now .NET and without 2003 in MPx200 the .NET doesn't work. Motorola: because users will have much more positive feelings about this company - seeing that their old MPx200 can run the same (.NET and 2003-specific) programs that other contemporary smartphones (otherswise: users would be increasingly angry at Motorola for not providing of this upgrade). This is win-win situation for everybody and nobody really is losing... wait, yes, somebody is losing: anti-Microsoft anti-Motorola fans of Nokia... :D
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 So how many people are now not going to upgrade to an mpx220 now 2003 is on the mpx200? I know I'm not going to rush out and buy one now. That's the real problem, if 2003 had been released months ago then there would not have been much of a problem but as the 220 is due out soon this hack will affect initial sales.
Guest abatis Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 I actual think the new Voq Professional looks more intriging than the MPX220. So I geuss even though I already had the ATT 2003 ROM on my MPX200 and I put the Lutzher DE ROM on my wifes phone last night, the 220 just lacks the input features I want, ROM aside. Looks pretty though. By the way here is the build data for the Lutzher DE:DE-ROM.GIF
Guest www.msmobiles.com Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 So how many people are now not going to upgrade to an mpx220 now 2003 is on the mpx200? Not many in reality. People who need HARDWARE FEATURES of MPx220 (like: 1.2 megapixel camera with flash, 850 band for USA, faster processor, Bluetooth) would buy it independently from operating system of their old MPx200. So all in all having this unofficial upgrade is very very good for Motorola. Please note that I was personally talking with and interviewing Mr. Tatelman, Vice President of Motorola, who is chief boss of "MotoPro" division of Motorola, which is responsible for Microsoft powered cell phones. He clearly said that there will be no official upgrade for Motorola MPx200, so this unofficial upgrade is the only way for "normal people" - Microsoft and Motorola employees have 2003 in their MPx200 already for long time (about 3 months) without any problems.
Guest brnoblade Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 I have tried to upgrade several times, and all I get is "bad news, the upgrade has failed", can any one help.
Guest TANKERx Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 I am very curious to know how this image has been allowed to stay online for so long. I'm not complaining, but I don't understand why neither Motorola or Microsoft have complained to the web site which has made the knowledge public. Why aren't they trying to stop it? Why are they happy to have out in the open? Why are they not chasing anybody to stop it? While it's given MSMobiles many popularity points (though he's still showing the same mind-meld-with-a-yak mentality), I am amazed that nobody in a suit is having a go at him. Should I be watching out for black helicopters? Apart from that, has anybody managed to get MMS working?
Guest TANKERx Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 I have tried to upgrade several times, and all I get is "bad news, the upgrade has failed", can any one help. I got this. You've probably used the smartfon.inf file form the Motorola Upgrade Wizard. Go to your device manager, find the USB Modem thing and update the driver using the smartfon.inf file that came with the original .rar file (not the one installed by the wizard).
Guest lmrud Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 Does Exchange ActiveSync Work with the MPX200 WM2003? MIcrosoft's MS Exchange While paper (MobileDvc.doc) states: Devices running the Windows Mobile 2003 operating system will additionally support the up-to-date notification feature. Up-to-date notifications combined with over-the-air synchronization mean that Exchange ActiveSync–enabled devices can be automatically kept up-to-date. (This feature is supported only on Windows Mobile 2003–based devices.) When a new message arrives in a user’s Inbox, Exchange 2003 sends a notification to mobile operators, which in turn alert the device and instruct it to begin synchronization To die for feature if it works. Push e-mail in real time. Does it work???
Guest rpb Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 I am getting this as well. Is it because I have a Windows 98 machine?

What if you released Windows XP and said, but its getting more people to like Microsoft cos they are using a Microsoft product, you think MS would agree? If Motorola wanted people to have Windows Mobile 2003 in the MPx200, dont you think they'd release it already? Also, the image has been defaced with new logo's, and stuff has been stripped from the rom, do you think Moto will be happy about that aswell? I really think you should have thought this through, this WILL affect sales of the MPx220... FACT. Anyhoo, rant over, on your head so be it.
Guest McHale Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 I am very curious to know how this image has been allowed to stay online for so long. I'm not complaining, but I don't understand why neither Motorola or Microsoft have complained to the web site which has made the knowledge public. Why would they really care? Do you realize how few of MPx200 users are going to do this vs. how many they sold? Motorola upgraded phones to 2003 for free themselves. The MPx220 is a completely different phone than the MPx200. I'm getting the MPx220 as soon as it's available because I need the quad-band, camera, and additional upgrades. I'm probably getting the MPx as well if it doesn't look like I'm holding a shoebox to my head. Even with the MPx200 now FINALLY having 2003 on it, everyone is going to have to upgrade to something newer eventually. I think Motorola knows that and as long as you like your MPx200, you'll probably look at their latest offering when it's time. Just enjoy it while you can get it. -Mc
Guest Sasuke Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 I was never in a rush to go out and buy the MPx220 as soon as it gets released anyway, so having Smartphone 2003 on my MPx200 is not going to affect my decision to buy the MPx220. Just out of curiousty, i hear people mentioning that this version of Smartphone 2003 for the MPx200 has been "striped". anyone have any idea what exactly has been taken out? :?
Guest scott2eyes Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 The only reason I personally would have upgraded to the MPX220 is for the 2003OS- I don't use phone cameras often enough for it's inclusion (or lack of) to be an issue for me, not bothered about bluetooth when I've got a cradle to sync with the PC (which I use as a charger anyway- only use the plug one when I go away), and prefer to stick with the SD card I shelled out £50 for if I can help it. I'd like to upgrade to WM2003 to be able to start working with .NET, but am not going to risk turning my phone into a paperweight for with an unsupported ROM. (Have had enough problems with Orange with a supported one!) FWIW...
Guest goinnuts Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 can any one help, i plug the usb into my phone and activsync will start but when i run the update it cant find my phone. it says check the usb cable.
Guest robt Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 goinnuts You have to stop activesync running. Use the task manager and stop WSESMgr.exe and wcescomm.exe. Switch your phone off, unplug the usb cable, hold the left action of the 4 way button and plug the cable back in, phone still OFF. Windowa will find it as new hardware and install it as a modem. Good luck.
Guest Toe Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 This doesn't affect my choice to buy the MPx220 at all. I'll still get it when it comes out, because I want the extra features, and unlike the MPx200, the 220 will be built around WM2003 and run alot better. In my humble opinion there isn't significant enough changes, surface wise, in WM2003 to cause the everyday user to change their mind on purchasing the 220, Keep in mind most of us aren't everyday users :D, we tech-junkies and the Everyday user isn't game enough to upgrade their phone with an illegal, hacked rom released by an anonymous source. They'd want it all from Motorola or their service provider on a disc with clear instructions, not two files to get it working with english langauage :D BTW no offense to creator/releasor or anything, I'm definately not complaining at what has happened, just trying to put it in perspective, and most likely justify it subconciously in my own mind
Guest pookieguy Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 Can someone here please provide info on how to remove Cleartype on WM2003? I've spent quite some time in these forums reading all the posts on disabliing cleartype but none actually work. I've deleted the cleartype key in the registry and that didn't do it either. Anyone? Thanks!!
Guest mrrippey Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 Hey, thanks to @nonymous, you dont need to so the registry hack to get English (or any other language). Here is the link: http://www.msmobiles.com/news.php/2785.html Rippey
Guest lofek1 Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 Has anyone tried WM2003 on At&t phone in the US ?any settings required ?
Guest neovader Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 It works fine on on my phone on AT&T Wireless in the US. MMS doesn't seem to work, but I don't remember it working before either and I don't use it. For some reason after I switched to english it took a couple resets or awhile to make the whole thing switch to english. I was afraid it would be stuck with german but eventually it switched over completely to english. You'll need to setup the GPRS (internet) settings again after you upgrade. Aside from that it's great!
Guest j_Duqueno Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 Can anyone get rjshortcut to work on the homescreen? I just get a invalid xml error when i try to use it :D I want those static link icons back....
Guest Sparky280 Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 anyone know how to change the bootup logos on the wm2003 rom? and maybe how to get email working?
Guest supraopticus Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 I may be a tard, but I cant find where to setup email. all I can find is sms or activesync setting. any help? thanks
Guest simmons21 Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 Another bug. On my AT&T Mpx-200 with WM2003 the sound volume changes on it's own. If I set the ringer to Loud, it might start loud, but after running other applications on the phone, particialy the Resource manager, the Loud is no longer Loud. This really is a bummer. I have to reboot the phone for the sound volumes to be correct, but within a few hours or so of use, the sound volume goes down. I'd avoid this ROM if I were you.
