Guest jamesb Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 For those who need to restore their orange GPRS... Go to Settings - Data Connections - Menu Button - Edit Connections - GPRS Connections - Menu Button - Add Then Enter the following Connects to: The internet Access point: orangeinternet Primary DNS: 158.43.192.1 Secondary DNS: 158.43.128.1 Once that is done, keep exiting and make sure that on the data connections screen, whatever you made the description for the orange settings, say, "Orange GPRS" is selected for internet connection:
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 anyone know how to change the bootup logos on the wm2003 rom? and maybe how to get email working? The initial logo Cartman cannot be changed as it is on the ROM image but the others can be changed with either reg hacks or using an app like SmarTweak
Guest mischievous Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 Thanks "@nonymous." Another AT&T Wireless Motorola MPX200 upgrade. Now I'll put off the MPX220 until I really really need bluetooth. WOW. Do I have alot of things to re-install though! Tons & tons of customizations I forgot I even did!
Guest w4rmk Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 I can confirm that removing and reinstalling the SIM for T-Mobile USA did NOT fix the problem on my phone. I still get the SIM Error message occasionally after the phone boots. And the SIM Manager will not read the SIM at all. Other than these 2 problems, the phone works fine.
Guest pookieguy Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 Guys, Something else I found that I don't particularly like with the upgrade. I notice now that the keypad lighting on the mpx200 automatically turns off after a couple of seconds. Is there a reg hack to keep the keypad light on when phone is opened? Thanks!
Guest Sparky280 Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 the sim trick worked for me.. Before the language update my sim contacts worked fine after the reflash it didnt what I did was took out my sim.. Booted up the phone without a sim, after it said emergency calls only and turned off the phone put my sim back in and went to sim manager and downloaded my contacts.. Anyone able to setup email on the new rom? i dont see any way to set up pop3 yet.. that's not a good thing :?
Guest simmons21 Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 Ok, this volume bug is a big pain in the you know what. I want the ringer to be somewhat loud, but this new rom doesn't seem capable. Or if so, only for a short period of time. Anyone have a solution to going back to WM2002? I know I'm an idiot for trying this upgrade. I would HIGHLY recommend you avoid this ROM. It's a hacked version of the Motorola WM2003 version and that probably adds bugs.
Guest lutzh Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 I would HIGHLY recommend you avoid this ROM. It's a hacked version of the Motorola WM2003 version and that probably adds bugs. this is a surprising news for the 11.000 readers in this thread!!!! its hacked??? :-) have you done the hard reset after installation? since you are the only one facing that particular problem it looks more like a faulty phone than a faulty rom, so don't blame it to a "buggy rom"! to all those who have a problem setting up gprs or mail accounts - do it the easy way - do it THE HELLO MOTO WAY simple to use for everyone. cheers, lutz
Guest jamesb Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 I've tried the over-the-air updates, both on Orange and Moto, Lutz, but had to resort to entering them manually as I didnt receive the updates. I tried to get updates for pukka WM2003 phones as a check, and did receive those. Hopefully it will work for others, but it didnt for me.
Guest jamesb Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 I've also noticed that it is not as loud, but then there is the option of changing to the outdoor profile which IS...
Guest simmons21 Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 lutzh, this is a good point however: 1) The ROM is changed from the Motorola WM 2003 build. Somehow I doubt the version that Motorola was giving out had a naked picture of Cartman and was German Only. I'd much prefer had I installed the version that Motorola handed out. I apologize, hacked was too strong a word. 2) Secondly, I dobut I am the only one suffering from the volume bug. The setting doesn't change, it's the actually sound output volume. Loud is sometimes Loud. Certainly not loud enough to hear in a noisy room. I haven't ruled out my hardware, however I never had any problems with my phone in WM 2002 except for the caller ID slowness. I would love to know if anyone else has noticed volume weirdness. I also noticed the startup and shutdown noises vary in volume as well. Sometimes the startup is quiet, sometimes it's loud.
Guest fcruson Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 After 1.5 days reading, I took the plunge. The upgrade to 2003 did great! Installed the reg editor and added English—good to go! I am also a t-mobile user and am having SIM card reading issues sometimes. I tried to re-inserting my SIM and that did not help. Good thing I copied all SIM day to my contacts prior to upgrade! Other than SIM access, we be jamming…. There is hope! :D
Guest www.msmobiles.com Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 hi guys! I just wanted you to know, that not Microsoft or Motorola or Nokia but another problem may stop distribution of this ROM image: it is hosted on robot.msmobiles.com (another server than www.msmobiles.com) , where there is 100GB web traffic monthly, and yesterday only the web traffic generated by downloads of this ROM image was over 20 GB! In one day! So, apparently the traffic limit will be hit soon and then you will have to wait till next month ... for next download possibility... hahaha. Anyway: @nonymous is preparing already upgrades to this upgrade and at the end you can have better and more stable ROM than any operator could provide .... hahaha #2.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 Could your SIM problem be that the retaining clips for the SIM are broken? If so do the ol magic folded piece of paper between the battery and SIM to fix this problem.
Guest mrrippey Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 I don't get it, people are hating on @nonymous because the ROM is "buggy." This is what I thought EVERYONE wanted ages ago. I would read post after post about someone / anyone get WM2003 for MPX200 and now that it is here people are complaining. Man I don't even have a MPX200 and give anyone props for putting something out that everyone wanted. Stop hating and congradulate. Rippey
Guest TANKERx Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 Is it even possible that these images have more bugs than the original!? ;-)

Guest dshaugney Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 I've been away for a few days and to come back to a surprise like this, it's like my birthday and christmas all at the same time! The ROM works a treat....and I've found no obvious bugs! Praise to @nomymous! He da man!
Guest stickman Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 Definite props to @nonymous, everything seems great here (AT&T). One thing, I cannot seem to access my SD card anymore... Any suggestions on this one? I saw one other mention of it on the 15 pages so far, but no solution. Any help is much appreciated.
Guest coyspiracy Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 is he really working on an upgrade? wow. dat be great, eventhough the 2003 upgrade was a treat, i'd still like to see what this upgrade he's working on has for us. keep doing what your doing @nonymous. much props. by da way, where can i dl the homescreen layout for wm2003??.
Guest trewang Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 I'd just like to point out that the SIM ERRORS related to the new ROM are most likely (99%) not hardware related. I have seen at least 5 posts from T-mobile USA users whose sim suddenly stop being initialized and recognized.. Hopefully this issue will be fixed in @'s upgrade in the future
Guest trewang Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 Oops, basically what happens to me with the sim is: I can make calls, receive calls, sync contacts from Outlook. I cannot access SIm manager, save on sim, retrieve from sim.
Guest mhartman Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 I'm having the same SIM issues. Not too big of a deal. It doesn't seem to affect anything else. Mike P.S. Thanks for the upgrade, I was close to buying the upgrade off of eBay.

I very much apperciate your efforts. The only thing I would prefer over your ROM is the one that Motorola that created for US English and was giving out at trade shows. I'd imagine that's pretty stable. I could be incorrect though, @nonymous's changes could be very minor. However, noticing a German web site bookmark set makes me think the changes were greater than just removing other languages. However, the changes he has made may have made this build more stable, I don't know. I kinda wish he was here. Either way, great work man. I apologize for my complaining. Just hoping to track down any issues.
