Yes, it's the Voq, and yes, it looks strange...

My CD has ActiveSync, Outlook and the plugins.

VoqMail doesn't appear to be available yet and I was disappointed with the fact that applications I was given the impression would come free are actually not and need to be bought from the VOQ part of the handango site.

Oh and another gripe is the charger and sync cable combination.

Why oh why do they not have a USB sync and charge cable?

The charger is similar to the old SPV/XDA one but has a different plug too so thats another charger I have to carry :-(

You know how I bang on about letting the community test devices? HERE'S WHY!

When you lock the keypad on the Voq, the power button still turns the phone off. Twice today i've got it out of my pocket and it's been off. WTF?

For me this renders the phone basically useless.

DOH!

It's the spv all over again :P

Either these companies don't test their products at all ( very unlikely ) or they just don't care and release their products when they are nowhere near ready, knowing about serious bugs the whole time!!!.......Exactly like the original spv!

I'm just praying that my first day with the C500 is not like my first day with the SPV, E100, E200, Voq etc. etc. :-|

I'm hoping that this is not the build they will release - It seems kind of buggy to me.

I first saw the designs for this device some 2 years ago and here we are still with issues and a now badly dated design.

I guess Sierra Wireless have learnt a lot though the process and I can only hope that they can produce an up to date high quality phone in the near future.

if nothing else there are some interesting concepts in this device to build upon.

This IS the release device, in a retail box...

There have been some changes from the design 2 years ago (primarily the keypad and thumbboard), but nothing major...

Looks like we'll be waiting for another ROM update then :-(

Unless mine is a rogue device, I'm seeing more issues than I have with my E200.

I'll try a hard reset again I think and see if that helps.

I haven't owned any other mobiles since the smartphone platform was launched with the spv, is it like this with non smartphone mobiles like the nokias/samsungs/panasonics etc? are they all riddled with bugs and everyone hoping the next upgrade will sort the bugs out?

It's true of a lot of the 'smarter' devices - I've had to upgrade the Treo 600 as well and Sony Ericsson have also had to offer updates over the web now.

What we have to remember is that the Microsoft devices do much much more than any other OS or platform natively and that means there is much more to go wrong.

There are also lots of issues to do with 'Carrier requirements' and branded or bundled 3rd party applications - something with really annoys me.

I accept that devices like these are going to have small bugs which are found after a device is released, that's obvious, we all install different software and use the devices in slightly different ways with slightly different configurations, but these devices are being released with rafts of major bugs that they can't fail to know about. They are knowingly releasing half finished devices!

i think the problem is that these devices are tested, but are only tested under lab conditions, and thats what Paul was talking about when he mentioned community testing, people who use these devices day to day, we keep saying it but no-one listens.

Pretty much 90% of E200 bugs where found within an hour of using the phone.

OK it's just too big. I want to go down to C500 size. Less noticable bulge in my pocket. (That won't impress the ladies will it) :P

Not good, hopefully this is something they can fix in the rom.

How sensitive is it?

Hu! Bad start with this swith-off button' thing. Apart from that how can it be compared to the C 500?

Guest Paul [MVP]

It's very sensitive.

And it really isn't comparable to the C500 in anyway, they're aimed at totally different markets...

looks rubbish ... initial review is rubbish ... seems rubbish to me! bit shocking really that a new device is released with fundamental flaws like that!? oh well, guess their sales will be slow, eh?! Posted from my SmartPhone!

I get the impression it's a powerful and specialised business tools. Unfortunately it scores low on the areas that general consumers like us rate most important, as Paul mentioned, different markets.

Our company wants to supply some outside users with a blackberry device. Should we go with this Voq or should we go with an orginal Blackberry device? (7230) We will install the enterprise software on the mail server. E-Mail will be the most important thing..

Guest Paul [MVP]

It's hard to say at the moment, because I haven't tried the VoqMail software.

The 7230 is a nice solution though...

If you want a reliable proven solution I would go with the Blackberry :P
