Guest kevlar Posted December 21, 2002 Report Posted December 21, 2002 Here is the email I had back from ia styles last night after asking them if it was certified. Dear Sir: You can now buy IA Album for Smartphone on our website at: http://www.iastyle.com/smartphone/index.asp Yes, it was signed by Orange already and it runs on SPV Smartphone. Merry X-mas to you, too! Customer Service IA Style www.iastyle.com Kevlar
Guest Deako Posted December 21, 2002 Report Posted December 21, 2002 But you wont be able to use it to take photos or capture images until IA Capture is available. I really cant see why they released it before IA Capture!
Guest mikey808 Posted December 21, 2002 Report Posted December 21, 2002 Well that's great they told you it's certified and I'm sure it's right. ...BUT I emailed them to tell them about this whole download problem yesterday lunchtime and they haven't even bothered to reply or fix it, neither have Handango. So what am I to presume ...that they want our money without giving up the product ?!
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted December 21, 2002 Report Posted December 21, 2002 Ooh, sounds exciting! I've just mailed them for an update re: IA Capture. I think THAT is going to be the killer app :D P
Guest chewie Posted December 21, 2002 Report Posted December 21, 2002 ^ why? Again i will qoute what many before me have quoted! (this is in the email after you purchase IA Album) Thank you for purchasing IA Album for Smartphone, the imaging solution for your Orange SPV. After it is installed, you will see 2 short cuts: "Photo" & "Camera" on your Program menu. Photo is for image/video viewing and browsing, while Camera is for photo and video shooting. Camera also be invoked from within Photo. Notice how it says Camera is for photo and video shooting What do i need IA Capture for again?
Guest chewie Posted December 21, 2002 Report Posted December 21, 2002 Where did lewis say he had it working? I have Just got IA 1.6 Can confirm you do get both camera (for vid and pics) and photos (album) Also in his later post, he explains how you can DL it you cant get it the proper way, trouble is with his method you need to have been a registered user with handango BEFORE you purchased the software!
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted December 21, 2002 Report Posted December 21, 2002 Well, we shall see. Whoever actually GETS the software first... post here! :D Chewie - take a deep breath, hehehe... P
Guest mikey808 Posted December 21, 2002 Report Posted December 21, 2002 Exactly Chewie and that Lewis has it working. But how are we gonna get it ?
Guest grib Posted December 21, 2002 Report Posted December 21, 2002 Hold your breath it has not been released by orange yet and it will not work then :D
Guest lewis.curley Posted December 21, 2002 Report Posted December 21, 2002 'That Lewis' here sorry guys for not getting back been a bit hectic but understand how you would be pissed at Handango Right try this http://mobile.handango.com/orange/MyLogin.....jsp?siteId=549 then enter email and last 4 digits of credit card you used and voila, gives you a list of what you paid for then click on the reference number of IA and download should start. I am using Mozilla (just incase its a browser issue) Really hopes this helps as want to hear others opions of it, so please post to let me know if it works!
Guest Shuflie Posted December 21, 2002 Report Posted December 21, 2002 Not working here :D Did you get an email from IA Style with your registration code as stated in the mail from Handango? If you did perhaps the link only becomes valid when it gets through IA Style's system.
Guest lewis.curley Posted December 21, 2002 Report Posted December 21, 2002 Just realised that site link was actually in the email for Interstellar flames but listed all the software i had brought where as the sites on the IA email dont work (redirect to IA site). I would post the cab file but obviously that has major piracy issues if anyone can suggest anything or has any suggestions let me know. Have to say its really bad of handango there customer service seems very bad.
Guest ntx-mac Posted December 21, 2002 Report Posted December 21, 2002 hi, just tried it with the link of lewis ... worked!! thanks for the tip!
Guest lewis.curley Posted December 22, 2002 Report Posted December 22, 2002 Great hopefully it will work for others then we turn this into a review thread rather that a how to download thread
Guest Shuflie Posted December 22, 2002 Report Posted December 22, 2002 Got it to work and I must say its impressive. Ability to email pictures is great and allowing you to zoom in to part of a pic then set what you see as your homescreen does it for me too. Doesn't seem to have made the camera screen update work any faster but I suspect that is just a limitation of the hardware, must be sending preview across serial port :D
Guest mikey808 Posted December 22, 2002 Report Posted December 22, 2002 lewis.curley you are a star ! Thanks a bunch...and sorry for calling you "that lewis" :D will post a review later today..
Guest lewis.curley Posted December 22, 2002 Report Posted December 22, 2002 no probs glad you could get it still think we should pester handango though as its really bad they didnt provide the right link but are happy to take $20 off you. Looking forward to the review + any tips on usage people have found
Guest Precognisant Posted December 22, 2002 Report Posted December 22, 2002 I tried all ways to down load and in the end only the method mentioned above by lewis.curley worked. You could try the direct URI which I 'obtained' from this page as; [Edit by Chewie:Link removed until we can confirm this is a trial version.] Don’t know if it locked to me / my phone or anything like that but it downloaded ok. Now to try an install... FREE THE SPV. GET RID OF CERTIFICATION NOW
Guest pibrahim Posted December 22, 2002 Report Posted December 22, 2002 Downloaded the .cab file, but what do I do with it? Don't tell me I need the All-Explorer demo to run it?!
Guest pibrahim Posted December 22, 2002 Report Posted December 22, 2002 Used All-Explorer in the end... Nifty program, main benefit is the fact that we no longer need to go through the rigmarole of composing a MMS to take a photo. Video capture isn't particularly impressive, comes across as more of an animated slideshow than video, I'll try it in the smaller size (comes with 2 choices) but I don't know if it'll get any better. Interface is nice, on the whole, a decent package.
Guest kevlar Posted December 22, 2002 Report Posted December 22, 2002 I just bought and downloaded ia album, and went through the ten frustrating minutes of trying to download the bugger. I got it by using the method mentioned above, but noticed that it says I paid £19.99 for it, not $19.99 as it should be. Time for an email I think. Kevlar
Guest mikey808 Posted December 22, 2002 Report Posted December 22, 2002 After having mucked around with IA Album 1.6 today I have the following review to report: Once installed you get 2 new icons in the program list: Camera and Photos. Photos is an photo album/video player and slideshow for you pics and videos, but you can also get to it from within the Camera program when you choose to view what you captured. Camera is where you capture photos or videos and is in fact IA Capture which people have been asking about whether it was included. Photo capture is much better IMO, than before within MMS. Shots can be taken in fairly quick succession, they autosave (it takes 1 to 4 secs to save depending on resolution) and because of this no other button needs to be pressed apart from capture . There is still a slight delay after capture is pressed but quicker than within MMS. You can move easily between capture, viewing , thumbnails and slideshow within the program. Pics can be attached to an email from within the software very easily and once selected the outgoing email appears with the attachment already attached. There is a fullscreen view and fullscreen slideshow which I think is excellent. They display on the entire screen removing the bars top and bottom of screen automatically. Zooming, rotation, set to home screen, etc are pretty much as within MMS software You can set where the prog saves: to your memory card or the phone itself and this displays on the capture screen how many shots you have left and updates accordingly. Resolutions available are 64x80, 128x160, 240x320, 480x640 Orientation is selectable between portrait and landscape There is an auto or manual real time brightness control which is useful. Timer delay for capture can be set from 1-16 secs Flicker settings of 50 or 60 Hz. So generally good news on the Photo mode.... *However* The Video mode is very poor in my experience so far. It's selectable from within Camera software. Once video capture mode is selected it displays a slow refreshing picture (every sec) for aiming and during capture, but it's a bit more off putting when trying to shoot a moving image. Resolutions for video are selectable 60x80 or 120x160 Frame rates are selectable from 3-20 fps. I have found it does not play back recordings at anything like the claimed high frame rates you can set to record at ..Playback is more like 4 or 5 frames per second ! and it makes no difference installing the program my SD card or to the phone itself. This is very weak, unless there is some yet unknown way of speeding it up. Also weak for me was recording sound with video. Sound is selectable on or off once in video mode but my recordings are too quiet really and appear to have a slight high frequency noises on them as well. Dunno if this is interference from the camera/port connector or what, but it's not much good as it is. Also the sound synching with the video, which plays back so slow, is poor obviously. Orientation selectable as in stills mode Brightness and flicker as in stills mode Other stuff such as viewing, auto saving, (which is slower with these avi files) is similar to stills mode as above and works ok. The avi files that the program creates can be transferred to PC for viewing with Media player etc ..but playback still stutters. So overall one good side, (Photo) and one poor one (Video) which IMO does not do what it claims it can do. The program feels good generally and I am pleased the photo taking is much better and easier, I just hope they can sort out the video recording with a patch or the next release, dunno if I'll get that for free or not. One last thing... You can email pictures from the Camera program as well as from the Photos program. Please note this report is only what I have seen on my SPV with over 50% memory free and having tried installing the program on my SD card and on the phone. I hope others have more success with video side of it, but frankly I am doubtful they will.
Guest Treadsoftly Posted December 22, 2002 Report Posted December 22, 2002 Hmmmm. I waiting to see what the Orange Update brings. I hear, from the software developers themselves, that it will update the MMS interface.
Guest kevlar Posted December 22, 2002 Report Posted December 22, 2002 I have had this program for a few hours but haven't had time to play with it much, but one thing, it makes me hopefull of is watching videos with the screen turned 90degrees so as to maximize the screen size. I posted about this either on this forum or the newsgroup, I am sure now that someone will come up with a way to watch videos this way. Kevlar
Guest Precognisant Posted December 22, 2002 Report Posted December 22, 2002 Yep sorry it was me I did it. I uploaded the link. Believe me I've had a lot of stink over this... I did not mean to Pirate the software but I WAS SO RELIEVED IN ACTUALLY GETTING THE FILE FROM THAT BADLY CODED POS CALLED THE WEBSITE AFTER PAYING FOR IT! that I put it up to help all the others that had complained / and supposedly not been responded to. By definition they had already paid for it. Sorry wont happen again. I fully believe that pirated software limits development. But so does certification. Have a good xmas and a happy new year.
