Guest Coucou Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 Call me thick, but why not use the camera to sense the light level? After all, it's a light sensor! It's possible on the Treo. :P
Guest Simon Desser Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 Call me thick, but why not use the camera to sense the light level? After all, it's a light sensor! It's possible on the Treo. :P Thick  :D Not much point if your using it near a table, or over your knee etc,. cos the camera is on the back where the light won't get to it. In fact it's nearly always going to be in shadow
Guest midnight Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 yeh, you need to know the light level on the same as the keypad to know whether to light it or not :P
Guest Coucou Posted August 6, 2004 Report Posted August 6, 2004 Normally if the phone is in your hand the light level will be pretty similar front and back. Only if it's actually resting on the table or similar will it be much different. Anyway, will this also let the screen be dimmed? I find this a really handy feature on the Treo, the keypad backlight can be toggled on/off and the screen brightness can be adjusted too.
Guest lutzh Posted August 6, 2004 Report Posted August 6, 2004 let's say it like this: it's nice to have it - even if nobody ever asked for it.... regarding the mpx220 i only can say - it is not the final rom on it so maybe they change it later on. on the c500 you can simply turn it off if you don't like it... cheers, lutz
Guest Simon Desser Posted August 6, 2004 Report Posted August 6, 2004 Normally if the phone is in your hand the light level will be pretty similar front and back Sorry to come across as "picky" but, that's not really true. I used my light meter in our office to measure the amount of light on the front of the phone as compared to the back (I'm a trained photographer :P ) There was 2 f-stops difference between the two  Put in English for non photographers, there's 4 times more light falling on the front of the phone than there is on the back  (Unless you always use you phone in a vertical position held out in front of you :? )
Guest midnight Posted August 6, 2004 Report Posted August 6, 2004 exactly, light generally comes from above you, not below you, and most people hold their phone at around 45 degrees, err, depending on where you are, whether you are sitting down, standing up etc.
