Guest Paul [MVP] Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 There is no change to the IME icon (input method), ClearType does not affect battery life in anyway (or speed noticeably), and there should be no issues restoring a Sprite backup after updating. P
Guest Toyota-F1.com Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 Is it supposed to improve battery life, because it doesn't actually say it's supposed to on the Orange page.
Guest ajb3000 Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 any news on whether it works properly with the m3000 yet? i have to wait a couple of hours for my battery to charge now before updating :P.
Guest zerosignull Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 just found that i had to reset the phone. now the IME icon is back
Guest Jon_ Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 installed it ok, tried using my BT headset, jabra 200 and cant notice any significant improvement, will see what happens over the next few days
Guest ajb3000 Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 also, any news on whether we can send video messages?
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 M3000 seemed to work fine for me on the pre-release versions of the update! While you're updating, maybe it's a good opportunity for people to do a full-charge-hard-reset as discussed elsewhere on the forum :P P
Guest Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 have u noticed that on the orange website it instructs you to have the phone fully charged before upgrading. i think they may have found out about the charge and hard reset trick too Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest Jon_ Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 oops just relised my phone was half charged, intresting to see if my battery life will be alot less than normal or just normal
Guest londonlad Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 Can someone list the benefits of bothering to upgrade? - voice quality? is it louder? any more bass? - improved battery life (i get 3 days as it is) - IA album? anything new? - IA cam? any better? - is bluetooth any clearer? anything else?
Guest nedge2k Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 I think the best question to ask here is: Is it better than I-Mate?
Guest Simon Desser Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 I'm away till tomorrow morning so I can't try it :P Has anyone tried going from the last imate ROM to this new Orange one? If so, was it easy, or is there a load of messing about to get it to update? Posted from my SmartPhone in a crappy airport!
Guest cokecan Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 Downloaded update. Battery was fully charged and phone is connected to pc via usb. Ran update, said about upgrading from rom 2.6.? to 2.7.? clicked next..... PC says "checking the information on your SPV E200....please wait..." phone has a three colour screen red, green and blue, with Smart phone v1.06 doc, but the phone has been sitting like it for an hour or so?? Any ideas, Thanks * restarted pc and solved the problem*
Guest ajb3000 Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 Well update is installed, and so far I haven't noticed a single difference apart from Cleartype ebing turned off by default which looks crap, having said that I haven't done much with it yet. Voice quality sounds about the same to me, maybe a tiny bit louder, they still have the redial bug though (if you ring the number again as soon as you hang up it's really bassy and distorted). Also the bottom row of white pixels still exist, I don't think Orange / HTC / MS are capable of getting anything right.
Guest londonlad Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 I think the best question to ask here is: Is it better than I-Mate? have you lot got the imate? so whats so good bout that rom then?
Guest Pondrew Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 Downloaded update. Any ideas, Thanks * restarted pc and solved the problem* I had exactly the same experience. First time that an update hasn't gone smoothly. Still, worked out fine in the end.
Guest Pondrew Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 Curious about the Imate myself. Didn't realise any one Rom was considered superior. Nedge has made me think...
Guest Simon Desser Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 Curious about the Imate myself. Didn't realise any one Rom was considered superior. Nedge has made me think... Here's a few of the differences :P Imate is deffo superior in my opinion :D http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=1122...2290&highlight=
Guest bx16v Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 :P Does any one want to a buy a 2 week old E200 that just doesnt want to work on O2 properly? Having applied the update it still hangs when recieving messages. -> SPV
Guest rhaleuk Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 I got a replacement E200 from Orange at 9.30pm today and it has this ROM already installed on it. Very nice of them :P
Guest psuc41 Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 I had to install this update that Windows Longhorn Skin was slowing my phone down so much and it would not remove. All is working fine now though. Total update took 8 minutes.

Guest atonks Posted August 6, 2004 Report Posted August 6, 2004 I'm looking forward to this update. I'm effin sick of my phone locking up and losing the SD card. I really hope it's an improvement :? I'm at work now, with USB cradle but no mains supply. Do I really need to have the E200 on mains whilst installing the update? Spose I could wait til I get home
Guest ajb3000 Posted August 6, 2004 Report Posted August 6, 2004 The e200 charges itself when in the USB cradle through USB, it doesn't need the mains adaptor plugged in.
Guest rhaleuk Posted August 6, 2004 Report Posted August 6, 2004 Anyone had any issues with GPRS automatically disconecting post update? I can only seem to get the idle disconect down to 15 minutes. Is everyone's phone having this problem? Thanks,
