I've found one!!!!

They've done something a little strange in the c500. On all the other SPV, when you're in a password field, the 0+ key defaults to the number zero. It seems that on the c500 it does not. It seems to be putting a + or something else in. As we can't see what it's putting in, we don't know for sure. All we do know, is that the password is not being accepted when you try to check email or sign in to messenger.

However, if you hold down the 0 key it will put the zero in. I had to hold down the zero key for even longer than usual to make sure it put it in. You should see the little * disappear and reappear when the 0 is put in. Or change to the number input method to be safe.

I was getting so frustrated at not being able to sign in to messenger or check my email. I spent ages on the phone with customer support. Something in my brain kept saying it was something to do with the zero, but I just kept thinking Orange wouldn't have done something stupid like that. I was obviously wrong.

Had the same problem here.

My password icludes a number, normal numbers work fine, but zero is a problem. Normally as you type, you see the number or letter for a second before the * appears, with zero it just puts *.

Try pressing the T9 key and switching to 123, it worked for me. Took me a while to work out what was happening, called O support and they said whats a C500 ????.

I'm so glad the C500 works with my Parrot CK3000 Bluetooth Car Kit... I got rid of my E200 because it wouldn't work with the CK3000.

However one small bug is.... when the keypad on the C500 is locked I can not voice dial.... There is a button on my dashboard that activates the speeddial command via BT on the C500 - it works when the keypad is unlocked.. but not when locked...

Anyway around this????

(PS I'm to lazy to unlock the keypad everytime I get in the car)

Phone History

Sony Z5 - Sony Z7 - A few crappy Nokia's - SPV - SPV E100 - SPV E200 - Nokia 6600 arghh - SPV C500 YIPPY!!!

I am hopefuly getting the Parrot CK3300 tomorrow, if not Monday.

I will let you know how I get on.

well put it this way, if i had a C500 i would have spotted it, and i would have made a fuss, cos it effectively kills off our next couple of games (at least), so effects our revenue in a huge way :)

[edit]just found out that multipress works on the keypad, so its the joystick that doesnt allow multipress, that means it can be designed around, Kumite may stand a chance yet hehe

I have tested this and it works. Not an ideal solution but on, for example, Gnuboy, remap direction keys to the keypad and multipress is possible.

on the keypress bug, last night we discovered that at the moment pressing the joystick overrides all other keys on the pad

multipress works on the keypad as before, but the second you press a direction on the joystick, only the joystick direction is read

it has been reported up the ladder :)

Alarm/Reminder Bug

If the Alarm goes off at the same time as a Reminder, the Reminder sound is played instead of the Alarm sound.

BUG: sound in some games with volume right down

if you turn your volume right down then go into a game (i have noticed it in pocket mini golf) it still gives you sound unless you turn it down in the games menu, this could be annoying if you wanna play the game quietly because you will have some sound! this is not a problem in slotcar racer but could be in a few games.

chrisjm, sounds like the game is at fault, not the C500 :)

Hi although I have not had any problem with the phone as such as loosing text messages I do have a bug to report that has been present on al of the SPV models so far but have to my knowledge never come up on this form.

When you are sent a picture message (that’s good old picture messages and not photo messages) from any phone that supports picture messaging or even a business card by text (only tested from Nokia phones) the SPV decided it will chose to disregard such messages and not inform you, hence you are completely unaware that you have been sent a picture message or business card. Other not supporting phones will inform you that you have been sent a message that can not be displayed and give you the senders number and time but the SPV is not curios enough to even care.

I have found this extremely annoying in the past as most people I know that have not moved to a smart phone yet are tastefully using a Nokia phone, and on one occasion a found out that a friend of mine had sent me a invitation to join her for a drink attaching to the message a picture of a glass, obviously I was completely oblivious to any such event. However I was considered rude for ignoring the invite and was later expected to justify my behaviour,

I put this issue down to a limitation of the operating system and hoped it would not be present in the SPV C500, but this is not the case Paul you did say that you are in contact with the correct people at Orange I would be grateful if you could bring this issue to their attention.

Also I read in your bug list that you have placed word suggestion order as a bug. I have noticed that the C500 learns from your selection of words and suggest them in the most frequently used order so the amount you have to scroll is limited, the C500 also has some txt abbreviations pre-stored I came across but can not remember, an example I think would be ‘l8er’ for later so this would come up as first in the list box but will drop down the moment you chose another word. I don’t think this is not a bug and I think you should remove this one from the list as it is a useful function of the C500 that once trained will allow you to text mostly without having to stop and select a different word.

For those of you that don’t know The C500’s new T9 engine also suggests complete words one after another is the order you have last typed so if you write ‘hello mate how are you’ in a message the next time you write ‘hello’ the phone will automatically suggest ‘mate’ as the next word after you press space and then ‘how’ after you press space again. This is annoying at first but will cut down a lot of your time if you tend to write simulate sentences often

p.s. you can ignore the suggested word and write over it, but this will probably lead to a different suggestion if you text a lot then just in a few days you will end up with a word being suggested after every word you type and you could end up only having to typing half a message as you have selected the other half, but this will take getting use to, as I said earlier it is at first anoying.

possibly found another one, tho its not really a concern, press the volume buttons when starting up and most of the buttons from joystick above dont seem to work (or if they do they are lagged by about 30secs, however still make a clicking sound). Thats Power, Volume up/Down, the two softkeys, home and back.

Is it just me, or will anyone else miss being able to 'hot-swap' the memory cards?  I've got three 128Mb cards that I use for various different things (yes, I know I'm going to have to replace them with mini ones), and I do swap them about reasonably regularly, having to re-boot the phone each time is going to be a right old pain and will weaken the battery cover clip.

yes, this is a very poor 'feature'. I'm used to hot swapping with my Orange Treo600 8)

found this, not really a bug as it does what you ask but when you select the recent call list from the orange menu bar it selects a couple of menus really fast, I think its the softkey(menu) / option 7-filter that is being selected. This could be as designed but it is a little suprising the when you do it and you get some menus flashed and a couple of clicks heard

Sent SMS / Media Messages Etc

When I look in my 'sent' folders there are no messages in there at all, even though I've sent loads. Is this a bug or just something that I haven't enabled, etc?

Works on mine. Have you set Options/Sending/Save copies of sent items?

mirzaa, the word suggestion is not limited to T9, it does it in 'nornal' text mode also. Quite a nice feature although I haven't made use of it yet.

The business card thing is just not supported by IR OR by text. It is very annoying and I can't think of a good reason not to have it - can't be that hard to code surely? COuld somebody add a module to allow this? Picture messaging works though??? I have been sent a picture message from a Nokia and received it fine, I'm sure. Am I misunderstanding you? You mean picture messaging via MMS? Or do you mean a graphic (such as a big cake!) attatched to a normal text, I think Nokias have that functionality?

Guest mirzaa

Dr Who, I have only used T9 since I received the phone so neglected to notice word suggestion works in other modes, although I do thing they could have made the interface more friendly (tried the colour grey for suggested words and show a sting of suggested words at once instead of them appearing one after another) and, for those that will not approve the ability to turn it off.

Anyways I have not had any problems receiving business cards from a Nokia phone over IR but as you said if sent by text the vanish in thin air.

The picture messages I am talking about are the good old fashioned picture messages, mms probably works fine although I have not had a chance to check but the graphics attached to normal text ’such as a big cake’ never arrive, not even just the text part of the message they to vanish in thin air.

Could you please ask someone with a Nokia to send you a picture message so you can check as I am sure it’s not just me as I have tried it on both my E100, and C500 and also a friend E200 and still have no joy.

Im really liking the next suggested word feature in the SMS composer. Im actually really enjoying the extra text features. Its gone from being overly basic to allmost too clever for its own good.

The only thing missing from the t9 editing now is being able to go back and select the word and edit it if you made a mistake. If I'm not mistaken the mpx200 rom can do it.

No it can't

No. I don't have an MPX200 now, but when I did I'm 99% certain that I could not edit T9 once I had gone past the word.
