Guest Pagemakers Posted August 25, 2004 Report Posted August 25, 2004 Can you tell me how you have got it set up Pagemakers? On a completely fresh install of Outlook 2002 and Activesync 3.7.1 when I sync it wither starts to transfer 1 contact and then just sits there, or now it is telling me that I have 81 unresolved contacts. But they are not unresolved 'cos there are NO contacts in Outlook. I have the same problem on a machine running Outllook 2000 with activesync 3.7.1 Outlooks location is set to 020 and United Kingdom. Do you know what file the contacts are stored in on the C500? And where the partnership info is? Did you change ANY of the activesync settings on your phone? Are you just syncing to one PC or two? Or a server? Are you using USB or bluetooth? Did you have contacts in Outlook prior to updating to your C500 (i.e. the first time you sync up did you write a lot of info to the phone - in my case all the data is on the phone and I am trying to write it to Outlook). Any ideas 'cos this is really testing me!!! Oh, and there are at least a few other users with an identical problem! What I would do is remove your phone from activesync then double click the activesync icon in the toolbar. Go to file/delete partnership. The re-attach your phone and create a new partnership. See what happens then.
Guest Dr Who Posted August 25, 2004 Report Posted August 25, 2004 Done all the removing partnerships business, reinstalling, everything. Suspect you may have missed my post directly above your last one given the times of posting.
Guest Pagemakers Posted August 25, 2004 Report Posted August 25, 2004 You obviously have something corrupt on your phone and when you clear storage you are re-setting your phone. If you then do a sprite restore you are just restoring the corruption back to your phone. What happens if you do a clear storage, then sync without performing a sprite backup? Also remember sprite was designed for 2003 not 2003SE. Contact my by PM if you like and it saves cluttering this topic up with our chit chat.
Guest Dr Who Posted August 25, 2004 Report Posted August 25, 2004 OK, well I will post here even though the problem is not with the C500 but with the Orange Backup/Restore service. Actually, maybe I should move this to a separate thread - feel free to move it, mods! If you have used Orange Backup and then restore data to your phone you can no longer get that data to sync with Outlook using 3.7.1 I think the data file that is restored is not compatible with 3.7.1 (or Outlook) and on synching the program will hang. Outlook can write to the database but not read it properly. This doesn't affect file browsing or any of the data sets (tasks, calendar, inbox or contacts) that you haven't restored. This problem exists on the E200 as well!!! I believe the is a MAJOR issue. You can not use both activesync and Orange Backup to ensure your data integrity. How do I contact Orange to inform them of this problem? Do I PM Mr O, or can someone like Paul make sure this info reaches the correct people?
Guest rikwebb Posted August 25, 2004 Report Posted August 25, 2004 Same here..... O backup by the way there is another post for this http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php...p=439464#439464 Rik
Guest jasonkentwest Posted August 26, 2004 Report Posted August 26, 2004 Wondered if anyone else has come across these two issues. 1) When texting/emailing in T9 in my previous E100, to insert a "! " or "?" all I did was press 1 to enter a full stop and then push the "0" button numerous times to bring up various choices. Now in my C500 all the "0" key does is put a number of "+" rather that go through any choices (how many times do people use a "+" that a key is dedicated just for that symbol?). So now I am forced to use the scroll button to scroll down to get the "!" or "?" from the list rather than the handy "0" button to give me a choice. Am I missing something or NOW does everyone have to use the keyboard AND scroll bar just to get a "! "or "?" (even if I choose Symbols, I would have to scroll down). Is there another other quick way of getting punctuation just using the keypad? :? 2) Has anyone recorded a Video on the C500 and emailed it to someone? I recorded one last night and emailed it to myself. When I got home I opened the email, double clicked on the icon. RealOne said it had to install/upgrade some files. After it finished, I clicked on the icon again and said it was unable to play it! I tried again, it tried to upgrade again but got the same message. Is there a format setting that I should switch to before I start recording to make it readable by a computer? It is set at MPEG-4 (mp4) on my phone (is that the default?). Or is there a setting on my computer that should be changed? The 'reader' my computer defaulted to RealOne but I couldn't figured out how to change it to Windows Media Player or QuickTime (which I don't think I have).
Guest Dr Who Posted August 26, 2004 Report Posted August 26, 2004 I *think* mp4 is normally associated with Quick Time. WOuldn't swear to it though. To open in a different app just save the file from your email onto your PC and then rightclick the file and Open>With and select whichever movie viewer you want.
Guest jasonkentwest Posted August 26, 2004 Report Posted August 26, 2004 I *think* mp4 is normally associated with Quick Time. WOuldn't swear to it though. To open in a different app just save the file from your email onto your PC and then rightclick the file and Open>With and select whichever movie viewer you want. I tried Quick Time and also Windows Media Player with no luck. I also tried to change the file extension to .mpeg and .mpg and still no luck. Anyone know what programm will play mp4 ? If no programme will play it, the video is useless if no one else can play it other than me! :)
Guest Jasonkruys Posted August 26, 2004 Report Posted August 26, 2004 I just opened it up on Windows Media Player, it sent the request for a codec, downloaded, then said error. BUT it allowed me to play the file no problem! FYI version 9.00.00.3250
Guest bosshogg Posted August 27, 2004 Report Posted August 27, 2004 I made an mp4 with the phone, windows media 9 would only play back video (no sound) but the latest quicktime plays it perfectly.
Guest kingronnie Posted August 27, 2004 Report Posted August 27, 2004 Okay, I've got one. When taking photos to set as caller ID's (menu-capture mode-photo ID), every so often (it's happened to me 4 or 5 times out of about 20) the phone will crash immediately after making the 'camera shutter noise'. The power light still flashes green but none of the buttons respond and the only way to re-boot is to take the battery out. When you go back in the photo is there in the multimedia album, so not all is lost, just a pain. I realise you can set any photo as a caller ID without using that function, but it should work properly. Anyone else had this?
Guest Dr Who Posted August 27, 2004 Report Posted August 27, 2004 Yup, I have had this happen to me once or twice. Can you really set any photo as Caller ID? I tried changing the folder to My Photos and it didn't show anything in it - I was fiddling about a lot at the time so may have done something stoopid.
Guest Phil Lee Posted August 27, 2004 Report Posted August 27, 2004 To assign a photo in CallerID, select Assign Photo. Click on Menu > Change Folder and select the folder containing the photo you want to assign then assign the photo. You can also select a parent folder and set the option to Include Subfolder. That way if you select StorageMy Documents with Include Subfolder, any photos in the My Documents tree will be displayed.
Guest kingronnie Posted August 27, 2004 Report Posted August 27, 2004 Yes, Go to the Multimedia Album and chose a photo; open it; go to menu->3 Save As->1 Caller ID Photo; This will bring up the screen where you can select which contact you want to assign the photo to; choose a contact and open it; select Assign Photo; (For some reason you have to re-select the photo!) then press done. This is the way I've been doing it, but I'm sure there are other ways!
Guest kingronnie Posted August 27, 2004 Report Posted August 27, 2004 Sorry Phil, I got called away in the middle of typing that and you beat me to it!
Guest Dr Who Posted August 27, 2004 Report Posted August 27, 2004 I thought you had to select the photo twice as well, but if you just select 'Next' instead on the left hand softkey instead of 'assign photo' on the right hand softkey it assigns it for you. Not entirely intuitive, eh? Phil, that's what I thought I tried but maybe I didn't do it properly - probably after a bottle of red.......
Guest kingronnie Posted August 27, 2004 Report Posted August 27, 2004 Another one, I'm afraid (unless it's me being a dunderhead!), if you adjust the volume whilst watching a video, the video stops, then resets to the start. I found this whislt playing with the bonus bits and bobs on the bundled SD card, I don't know if it happens on any other vids.
Guest fozzie Posted August 27, 2004 Report Posted August 27, 2004 Doesn't happen here. Adjusting volume with either joystick or side buttons works fine. Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest sponge Posted August 29, 2004 Report Posted August 29, 2004 I don't suppose it is a bug as such, but unless I have missed something, you still can't send a contact (business card) via SMS. You can via IR/BT though. :?
Guest jscotl Posted August 29, 2004 Report Posted August 29, 2004 An Outlook calendar entry which starts at 22:00 finishing next morning at 07:00 causes the "Today" view, from the original Home Screen to display the entry twice. Note: the entry was created on the PC & is a recurring entry. Every Friday. Any ideas? It does not show twice on Outlook on the PC or on a sync'd E200
Guest jscotl Posted August 29, 2004 Report Posted August 29, 2004 You still can't utilise "categories" on the fone when creating a new calender entry. Issue has been around since the dawn of time..... almost
Guest Abbas04 Posted August 30, 2004 Report Posted August 30, 2004 I've found one.. Whilst in a call, there is no way to send DTMF tones for an existing contact. I tried dialling my usual calling card number, but found no way of further dialling an existing contact. Pressing the 'call' button on a contact whilst a call is active dials the contact directly - in this case the states!

I have something similar too. I have a 3 day event this week which is currently showing up twice under "Today" on the Home Screen. Steve.
Guest Fruitini Posted August 31, 2004 Report Posted August 31, 2004 Have just had to do my second Hard Reset in as many days. My C500 completely freezes up at random times (once on the homescreen and once while locked in my pocket) and following removing the battery and reassembling will not get past the blue orange screen. Any one else having a similar problem?

It's missing functionality and has been, on all the SPVs so far!
