I just take a pic - click capture then menu - save as - caller-id and thats it - nuffin happens!!!

CRASH CITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, that could genuinely be called a bug kittenlou. Shouldn't happen EVERY time though, but is common. Instead of saving AS callerid, save normally and then go into the Caller ID app and assign photos through that. Not that much longer and no crashes.........hopefully.

Yeah, but what camera settings do you have? Size of photo? Storage Location? Have you tried doing things the other way i.e. Start Photo Contacts first and then add a photo? Does it still crash? Does it crash if using an exisiting already saved photo?

i hope people who mention bugs here have proved its still a bug on a fresh clean install of the c500 as problems do occure the more someone 'fiddles' with the software, or installs incorrect or dodgy software.

OK Ive worked it out now!! The phone seems to automatically save pics to 'my documents'

Ive tried both ways to save a pic to called id:

CAMERA - CAPTURE - MENU - SAVE AS - CALLER ID

or

START - MULTIMEDIA ALBUM - MENU - SAVE AS - CALLER ID

It doesnt seem to matter cus it crashes either way!! I would say it crashes about 9 out of 10 times!! Seems to work 1st time AFTER a crash!! but always crashes if I take a pic and use that 'new' pic (irelovent of which method I use!) until Ive turned the phone off and on again!!

 Very strange.............................

Ok not had the time to read the entire thread

CalenderToday homescreen bug

Example at the moment it shows Work Lates 18:00 this is entered twice

in the home screen, what is happening is it is showing the work lates for

tonight but also the work lates from last night which was an over night

appointment from 18:00 to 06:00

So reading the today section on the homescreen is a bit misleading and looks like a double appointment when in fact it's not.

Posted

OK Kittenlou, have you tried Start-Orange-CallerID-Assign Photo? I would try this way as the problem seems to me to be related to the transition from the camera app to the caller ID app. If you work just in CallerID then I don't think you have the same problem. Haven't tried it too much myself though. Kind of easier anyway 'cos you can take all your mates photos and then assign them all in one go.

Thanks Dr Who!!

It works!!!

:)

I must admit, I only got the phone late yesterday so I havnt had chance to look around it that much and I didnt realise you could assign pics that way! Plus I didnt bring the book with me today! DOH!! :?

All I need to do now is learn how to download all the stuff you lot keep going on about!! Im loving some of the homescreens that have been designed but come on chaps where is all the girlie ones!!!!!???? And no we girls dont want flowers and hearts and stuff!!!! Just some nice pics that dont involve cars and sports!!!! 8)

IMHO the trouble with the Smartphone OS is that it isn't always intuitive and I often feel as though I am working backwards towards a goal. There are often several ways to get to the end goal as well (thinking of bluetooth activesync here). That's why this forum has been invaluable to me - somebody normally comes up with an answer to most problems/weirdness encountered.

BTW, there is a rather nice cow themed homescreen. May not be your thing but I think it looks quite fetching!

Have fun.

Dunno whether the moderators want to move a portion of this to help and advice? The initial problem is a bug but (I think) has been reported.

I thought a compiled list of bugs might be useful at this juncture

From Paul O'Brien

Problems with GAPI

Many games flicker or run incorrectly, GAPIdraw games are particularly badly affected.

(From The PocketTv Team

> Many games flicker or run incorrectly, GAPIdraw games are particularly badly affected.

Problem resolved, solution found:

http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?p=438404#438404)

Problem with URL entry in IE

When entering a URL in IE, there is a nice function which means when you delete a URL in the address box, 'http://' is left. However, it seems to buffer an extra 'back' press, so you are left with 'http:/'. What makes this more annoying is the fact that on pressing the '1' key, the '/' symbol is no longer one of the first to cycle as it was on E200.

Loud beeping when entering a symbol

When symbol input is selected by holding down the '#' key, when it has popped up, it then proceeds to beep loudly a number of times until you release the '#' key.

Per-contact tones are not picked up from the SD card

Per contact tones are not listed if they are on the SD card. In the normal 'Sounds' menu however, they DO appear. There is inconsistency here.

352 x 288 video capture is no longer available

The 352x288 video capture resolution no longer seems to be available.

Problem when selecting particular mailbox type on homescreen plugin

The new homescreen plugin offers the ability to click directly on 'unread SMS', 'unread MMS' or 'unread eMail'. However, when either of these is clicked it launches into the messaging application presenting you with the mailbox menu, rather than going to that mailbox directly.

No voicedial available from the headset

There is no way to initiate voicedial from the headset without touching the phone itself.

'Favorites' not localised correctly in PIE

Despite the fact that the UK english localisation is being used, 'Favorites' is listed in PIE instead of 'Favourites'. Those crazy Americans

ClearType disabled

ClearType is disabled by default, which is a fair choice (although I prefer it on!), I am disappointed to see however that there is no option in the GUI to turn it on.

When creating MMS and adding a video, Camera (still) is launched

When creating a new MMS, selecting 'add video' launches IA Camera, but in still picture mode, with no way to switch it to video.

Text disappears when near the right hand side of the screen

When composing a mail or an SMS, words in the content can sometimes 'disappear'. They are actually still there, but a blank space is just shown. Going back and editing them will make them appear.

Text goes under scroll bar

When working with an SMS or email which is more than 1 page in size, the right hand side of text can disappear underneath the scroll bar.

No way to record sounds for MMS

There seems to be no way to record sounds on the handset for inclusion in MMS, despite the fact this can be done for e-mail.

SMS import does not delete from SIM

When 'import messages from SIM' is used, this does not delete the messages from the SIM.

T9 engine displays words in a strange order

I've had this a couple of times, the words in the T9 dictionary are sometimes in a very odd order. Instead of a perfectly normal word, you will type the letters and end up with a random word with a number in the middle!

Caps doesn't work after full stops in PIE

When inputting text in a PIE text box, auto capitalisation after a full stop does not occur.

Disappearing SMS when restarted

If an SMS is received and the phone is restarted before the inbox is opened, the SMS disappears.

New messages soft key doesn't reset

When a new message comes in, the soft key on the right changes to 'message'. If the user sparks up the inbox app and reads the message, the soft key doesn't reset.

From Gears

Phone ignores "Display Time Out"

I always leave this on "Never" so that the screen doesn't go off. It is completely ignored by the phone when Key Lock is on.

Bluetooth headset discovery

When using Bluetooth headset it happily sits there like a melon even though you're in range of your Bluetooth headset. It sometimes only shows that the call is actually being piped through the headset when you've finished dialling - so you have to rush and grab the headset if you didn't realise. This is completely the other way around when you move away from the headset - it removes the headset symbol properly when it goes out of range. The "checking" cycle on this appears to be slow, because you can be well out of range and it'll still show the headset symbol - then 30 seconds later it realises. Annoying if you get a call walking to or from the car in both instances.

From Croccy22

Text disappears when near the right hand side of the screen

From Simon Desser

A couple of "Alarm Bugs"

When an alarm goes off the screen doesn't light up, so you can't see what it says

When an alarm goes off and the keypad is locked, you can't "Snooze" the alarm with the action button

The answer/end call button on the headset doesn't always respond

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't In order to answer a call, you often have to keep repeatedly pressing the button before it answers

From Pagemakers

A bug I've found... I set me email account to auto-dial every 30 mins to retrieve email. If you sent a text message, the inbox remains on the text message account and your email polling stops. You must remember to re-select your email account every time which is a pain.

Here's another. I've set my display never to time out on the power management page however when you lock the phone the screen turns off!

If the phone's keypad is locked you can't voice dial using your BT headset!

From Akarno

OK, this seems to be a real bug. I have tested a number of games. You cannot press 2 keys at once. A number have people have reported this. I can confirm that it effects everything I have tried so far. The latest thing I tried was SPVInvaders by muff.

Basically forget moving & firing or moving & jumping.

This seems to make the C500 even worse for games than I thought.

From Dreamweavel

Another bug - multiday appointments show as 2 identical appointments on the homescreen plugin.

Another bug tho might be doing something wrong. Tried several times to bluetooth a 1mb wmv from my e200. It completed, the c500 said Ok to Save but the file never appeared in either storage or card "my docs" after saving. Used Find in new file manager but def not there. i tried using the full speed option but not the slow one. small files worked ok tho but only tried the slow connection.

From Inspectorgadget

I've found one!!!!

They've done something a little strange in the c500. On all the other SPV, when you're in a password field, the 0+ key defaults to the number zero. It seems that on the c500 it does not. It seems to be putting a + or something else in. As we can't see what it's putting in, we don't know for sure. All we do know, is that the password is not being accepted when you try to check email or sign in to messenger.

However, if you hold down the 0 key it will put the zero in. I had to hold down the zero key for even longer than usual to make sure it put it in. You should see the little * disappear and reappear when the 0 is put in. Or change to the number input method to be safe.

I was getting so frustrated at not being able to sign in to messenger or check my email. I spent ages on the phone with customer support. Something in my brain kept saying it was something to do with the zero, but I just kept thinking Orange wouldn't have done something stupid like that. I was obviously wrong.

From Fozzie

Alarm/Reminder Bug

If the Alarm goes off at the same time as a Reminder, the Reminder sound is played instead of the Alarm sound.

Bug or omission? I can't find any way of entering "{" or "}" (I had to copy and paste from an email to get these in!)

From farker

found this, not really a bug as it does what you ask but when you select the recent call list from the orange menu bar it selects a couple of menus really fast, I think its the softkey(menu) / option 7-filter that is being selected. This could be as designed but it is a little suprising the when you do it and you get some menus flashed and a couple of clicks heard

From Metoo

If I receive a text with a non numeric sender ID (e.g. "MY_SMS" instead of +44 77xx xxxxxx), the C500 fails to display this and instead shows the sender as the first entry in my Contacts starting with "M". I have server at work which sends automated system alerts this way, and was perplexed why they started to show as coming from one of my relatives!

From Dr Who (me!)

If you have used Orange Backup and then restore data to your phone you can no longer get that data to sync with Outlook using 3.7.1

I think the data file that is restored is not compatible with 3.7.1 (or Outlook) and on synching the program will hang. Outlook can write to the database but not read it properly. This doesn't affect file browsing or any of the data sets (tasks, calendar, inbox or contacts) that you haven't restored.

From kingronnie

Okay, I've got one.

When taking photos to set as caller ID's (menu-capture mode-photo ID), every so often (it's happened to me 4 or 5 times out of about 20) the phone will crash immediately after making the 'camera shutter noise'. The power light still flashes green but none of the buttons respond and the only way to re-boot is to take the battery out. When you go back in the photo is there in the multimedia album, so not all is lost, just a pain.

I realise you can set any photo as a caller ID without using that function, but it should work properly.

From jscotl

An Outlook calendar entry which starts at 22:00 finishing next morning at 07:00 causes the "Today" view, from the original home screen to display the entry twice.

You still can't utilise "categories" on the fone when creating a new calender entry.

From Abbas04

Whilst in a call, there is no way to send DTMF tones for an existing contact. I tried dialling my usual calling card number, but found no way of further dialling an existing contact. Pressing the 'call' button on a contact whilst a call is active dials the contact directly - in this case the states!

From britgamer

hey its my 1st post, shame its a bug. On my c500 if you move the joystick up as far as it will go on the menu screen and then move it down as far as it will go it still thinks your going up! works vice versa as well.

Its not a huge problem but i guess it would be in certain games

Sorry for the long post but thought this may clarify what bugs have already been reported

Peace

Not a happy bunny today. Discovered that while the C500 was connected by activesync, every time I read a new mail on the C500 instead of the PC, Outlook moved the message to the Deleted folder, to be subsequently flushed when I closed Outlook. Cue lots of important mails lost forever, and major grief at work. Now I remember why people hate fecking Microsoft.

Oh, by the way, why can't the list at the start of this thread be updated with confirmed bugs, instead of having to wade through 13 pages of waffle?

I wonder how many of these bugs are inherent in the microsoft os and can't be fixed by orange.

Maybe we all need to wait for Windows mobile 2004 in 2005!

Perhaps Paul is too busy to edit his post, metoo? Hence I thought I would do it - Paul do you want to add a direct link from the front page to here?

Having had a look at the buglist, I think that after 1 months 'beta' testing their are very, very few SERIOUS bugs (unless you are a gamer and I believe that is hardware anyway). The GAPI problem would seem to be the worst. I seem to remember that by this stage on the E200 some fairly serious flaws had been uncovered.

To be honest the C500 is one hell of a smartphone. I was going to give up on the SPV series after the E100 and E200 but I am glad I didn't.

Big Up Orange!!!!

That would be cool, and mean that your efforts too aren't lost in the noise

Having had a look at the buglist, I think that after 1 months 'beta' testing their are very, very few SERIOUS bugs

Seeing as

1. Orange are targetting the C500 at the corporate environment, hence the scroller instead of joystick,

2. The excuse they give for not testing games properly or fixing GAPI on the C500 as a priority is that it is intended for a business user,

2. One of the main reasons for using Windows Mobile over other OS in the first place is for its "seamless" Outlook integration.

I would say that deleting your emails without warning after they are read *is* pretty bloody serious!

I played with the power options and it seems to make the screen just switch off at random intervals.

I disabled the sensor, set Backlight timeout to 30secs and "Screen off" to 60secs. Then, while still working through the menus (about 2 seconds after making this change) the screen goes blank. Proper blank - not just no backlight. Pressing a key brings it back.

Repeated the process and it did it again, but after a slightly longer interval.

Yup, confirmed all of the above... Been playing with my C500 for a lil while now and realised earlier today that I've not see the keypad backlights on for ages wondering wtf I had done to the settings... Power management walkabout fixed it...

Bluetooth / Keypad lock bug

Ok, a mate of mine in work was transmitting a 2Mb file from his Motorola somethingorother yesterday... Given the filesize and slowness of BT, I decided to lock the keypad and pop my phone in my pocket for five mins while the file transferred...

Upon file completion, when trying to confirm saving of the file, I simply couldn't unlock the keypad  No matter how many times I hit Unlock-# it simply wouldn't unlock - popped the battery out to reset the C500 losing the 2Mb file in the process

Anyone else suffered this?

Posted

Has anyone else found that their backlight sometimes remains on constantly? This has happened a few times and the only thing I could do was change the backlight setting in the settings menu and then change it back. I seem to remember this used to happen on my SPV Classic and E100.

There's also another bug that has remained since the first SPVs when editing text messages. When half way through a line, pressing up moves the cursor to the start of the previous line, rather than above the position from where you moved. Sorry for the clumsy wording buit it's late!

Mine lights up, every time. Tried it this morning specifically to confirm as i suspected it did when i read this.

I left my phone on last night and when I went to use it this morning, it had crashed. I couldn't get the screen to come on. So I took out the battery, put it back in and rebooted. It took ages to boot up and it's lost a load of settings. I can't believe this is still happening, you'd have thought they'd have fixed this by now as it used to happen on the original SPVs. I really hope it doesn't happen too often!

Internet Explorer and/or PHP sites

Ok, so I run a fairly sucessfull PHPBB site, formated much the same as MoDaCo - heavily customised PHPBB site...

I'm unsure if what I'm experiencing is a bug in IE on the C500, or a needed hack/mod for my PHPBB site. The buglette goes a little something like this:

Create a new post on a forum, enter a topic title, then proceed to enter the body text. Once the text input is done, you scroll down to reveal the "preview" & "submit" buttons... Click either of them on my C500 and you are taken back to the data entry window for the body text of the post. Nothing I do will actually submit the data to be processed and new post appear in the forum :derr:

Any solutions to this? Paul?
