Guest awarner [MVP] Posted September 19, 2004 Report Posted September 19, 2004 3. Address entry is not as good as it should be, postcode support is the same as TOMTOM, i.e. next to useless. As long as you also have the street name as well I found the use of postcodes quite good, but not something you desperately need if you already know the area, it just saves time on typing. TOMTOM's realtime 3D is IMO much better, to the point of being useful (Lets hope this is carried over to the smartphone, and so far from screen shots it appears to be) It is and it rocks :lol:/ I found it to be within about 5mtrs of accuracy and comapring it to the ppc version the look is exactly the same. Supprisingly clear on the phone as well. TOMTOM said "Take the 2nd turning on the right".. and showed this much better on the 3D map..Agree there, also if you do take a wrong turn it re-calculates the route in seconds. I do not like the female voice command that much but use the Male voice all the time. if only TOMTOM would sort out all their niggles, and we could review TOMTOM smartphone on the C500, I give give a fairer comparison.. but judging by screenshots of TOMTOM smartphone running alongside TOMTOM PocketPC C500 review will be exactly the same as the E200 review and a fix will hopefully be released soon :) ease of use is very similar to the PPC version (slight alterations due to being on the phone) Could you post a review of co-pilot with screen shots similar to my post? It would be good to see a visual comparison.
Guest the_ugly_north Posted September 20, 2004 Report Posted September 20, 2004 C500 review will be exactly the same as the E200 review and a fix will hopefully be released soon :) Is soon before or after Christmas?
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted September 20, 2004 Report Posted September 20, 2004 I cannot give exact dates but I would be very surprised if it was delayed until after Christmas. As soon as I have confirmation about it's release I will let you know.
Guest phil-t Posted September 20, 2004 Report Posted September 20, 2004 cheers awarner.. just when I thought no-one had tomtom mobile to review.. Just some quick questions. 1. Does it allow you to select a postion in the MAP Mode, and then select this to add to favourites/set as departure/destination etc, or is the map browse feature just a 'viewer'? 2. does in have built in POI warning for speed camera databases of POI's?? its rumoured to, but be nice for someone to confirm.. 3. Is there a GPS Status part of it, and does it look like it will work with other BT GPS's ??? i.e. can you select COMx and NMEA 38400 for example?? 4. Are there any major differences to the PocketPC version?? I use this currently, and am just wondering what they've left out? I will do some screen shots and mini-review of co-pilot.. no problem..
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted September 20, 2004 Report Posted September 20, 2004 1, Yes 2, Not yet but you can add your own POI if you wish. 3, It is part of it but will only work with the TomTom BT GPS unit. 4, There is not really a great difference between the two. The menu layout is slightly different due to it being on a phone but I soon got used to it, and I did not have the luxury of having a manual to go by as I was part of the testing team. Thanks for the co-pilot review (when done :)) EDIT the TTM review in News has been updated with some questions being asked and answerd on Page 3
