Guest chucky.egg Posted September 3, 2004 Report Posted September 3, 2004 Sounds like your Mapo installation is duff Have you tried re-downloading and re-installing? (yeah, of course you have!) Sorry I can't help more
Guest arnespv Posted September 3, 2004 Report Posted September 3, 2004 For the GPS guys. I'm currently looking into the raw gps data and have set all the settings to one. So: GGA,GSA,GSV,RMC,VTG to 1. Others are all 0. Now, this SHOULD reduce the amount of NMEA sentences i'm getting. But, altough GSV is set to 1, i still get 3 GSV sentences on the display. Weird... or is the GSV minimum 3?
Guest chucky.egg Posted September 4, 2004 Report Posted September 4, 2004 @arnespv I don't know if this will help you - it's a GPS data reader written for E200s http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php...der=asc&start=0 I think you might already be past that point though
Guest arnespv Posted September 4, 2004 Report Posted September 4, 2004 Woohoo... this is just the STRANGEST thing. After i read your advice on re-installing, chris, i thought: been there done that. But then i realised that so far i've only reinstalled the app on the phone itself. I decided to put the map and the app on my sd card. I started the app, hooked up the gps and BANG 'Running' came on, it showed me my exact location. Software is running smooth, no problems at all. How bizarre. Now, i have to say, i always try to put all my apps and data on the sdcard as much as possible. But as i just have my c500, i didn't have a new miniSD card ready for use and had to work with standard 16mb card. So: SOLUTION: INSTALL ALL DATA, INCLUDING THE APP ITSELF, ON YOUR SDCARD.
Guest chucky.egg Posted September 4, 2004 Report Posted September 4, 2004 Congrats! Now to play "wandering around town with a daft grin staring at your phone"
Guest arnespv Posted September 4, 2004 Report Posted September 4, 2004 Hehe, yeah. I just tried it out in my car and it works excellent. Sometimes a bit slow to calculate some things, but overall a nice preformance.
Guest phil-t Posted September 4, 2004 Report Posted September 4, 2004 I've been using Mapo for a few days now.. with a fortuna clip-on.. Using my PALM european maps (bit of trickery needed to get them working!!) it seems quite good.. Navigation is OK, and the maps are fast.. very impressive.. And yes, I have been walking around town with the GPS in the babies pram, and me staring at the phone like a plank!!! Myself, I can't wait for tomtom smartphone to be released.. I just like the ease of use, and since they have just added some speed camera features (proper POI warning).. this should be a winner. But until then, its mapopolis for me!!!
Guest arnespv Posted September 4, 2004 Report Posted September 4, 2004 Yeah, for sure. If mapopolis works a bit more on some extra's and a more clear structure of the program it would be a proper app that could compete with tomtom. For now, the guys at tomtom just seem to have so much experience. I've used it on my pda for a while now, and it's just an excellent piece of software. Then again, i really prefer built-in navigation systems in cars, that use the cars audio system to issue warnings etc. It's also a bit nicer to the eye... it's also a bit worse for the wallet :)
Guest jackofall Posted September 8, 2004 Report Posted September 8, 2004 Hi I need help Ive set the phone to port 7 but i keep getting a gps port 7 is not available :| gps reciever has bonded ok with the phone not sure what Im doing wrong
Guest squiggs1982 Posted September 12, 2004 Report Posted September 12, 2004 Are there UK mapopolis demo maps available? I had a look around, but can't see any. Maybe I'm just being thick? :)
Guest squiggs1982 Posted September 12, 2004 Report Posted September 12, 2004 Got it! But now I can't get my EMTAC bluetooth reciever to connect. Any ideas? I paired it with the phone ok, but can't get mapopolis to see it :) Between this and being totally unable to Activesync thru bluetooth, I'm not impressed with the C500s implementation of BT.
Guest chucky.egg Posted September 12, 2004 Report Posted September 12, 2004 @squiggs You have to turn on the BT serial ports for Mapo to see your device. I cant remember where the setting is, but I think it's under "Configurations"
Guest squiggs1982 Posted September 13, 2004 Report Posted September 13, 2004 Thanks! Fiddled about a bit and seemed to get it working! Very entertaining, although my girlfriend just rolled her eyes! Just out of interest, does the purchased version have "proper" voice support. Think I'm too used to TomTom on my ipaq! Nice sounding lady there!
Guest chucky.egg Posted September 13, 2004 Report Posted September 13, 2004 There is voice support, but AFAIK you can't choose different voices.
Guest Djarid Posted September 23, 2004 Report Posted September 23, 2004 Hi I need help Ive set the phone to port 7 but i keep getting a gps port 7 is not available :| gps reciever has bonded ok with the phone not sure what Im doing wrong I have exactly the same problem... found a fix for it yet? any advice eagerly accepted :) Settings BT com ports IN: COM6 OUT: COM7 Mapopolis Manually set to COM7:
Guest Dr_StrangeTrick Posted September 23, 2004 Report Posted September 23, 2004 Hi Djarid, this happens to me from time to time and it refuses to work. If all else fails what I do is turn Bluetooth to discoverable and then remove your GPS device. Then Go to Settings, Configurations and open BT SerialPortSetup and tick the Outbound COM7 box and press Done. This will then ask you to bond your device, do this as per normal and I usually find that this works.
Guest Djarid Posted September 23, 2004 Report Posted September 23, 2004 DR_StrangeTrick... you are so the man  JackofAll, I would try this... works a charm :) now I can go and play
Guest butofcourse Posted September 25, 2004 Report Posted September 25, 2004 Thanks Doc, I follow doc's trick and it works for me with a clipon Bt and c500. Happy !!!
Guest adamjkimber Posted September 26, 2004 Report Posted September 26, 2004 So, the final consensus is that the TomTom GPS works ok with Mapo? I really want TomTom Mobile for my C500 but as it's not working now - I figure that Mapo will do. Do you think TomTom will just have a downloadable update for their software as I was thinking of buying TomTom now and using the TomTom GPS with Mapo. That way, I get both for the price of (a bit over) one!

Personally, I would wait for the update to be released. I mean, why rush? If you have Mapo already then you already have a GPS?
Guest adamjkimber Posted September 26, 2004 Report Posted September 26, 2004 I've not got Mapo - I was going to buy it software-only. You're right, I should wait - just me being impatient :)
Guest fozzie Posted September 26, 2004 Report Posted September 26, 2004 I know the feeling! I having trouble holding on to the reins myself! :)
Guest ddmf Posted September 26, 2004 Report Posted September 26, 2004 i'm the proud owner of a mapopolis navigator map pack and it's the business, 160mb of maps for the UK, along with major road maps... worked ok with my tomtom, but i got rid of that and got the fortuna instead... this app's the daddy - just been updated too, so now you can see where water is!
