I didn't either, it just sort of happened, but that's ok as long as MoDaCo doesn't mind....

Modaco doesnt mind. It's encouraged! :)

Hello All,

The first BETA of CityTime Alarms for Smartphone is now available for you to try out.

Beta 2 is now available. :)

Please uninstall the current version and install the new one. Because of the font you should have to power cycle/soft-reset your phone. It does not preserve your alarms at this time, in later versions I will add this functionality (ok, I just thought of that while I typed it!).

Changes include:

- Sounds go with program, Phone or Card.

- Clarify: The program does NOT need to be running for the alarms to work, it functions like the calendar in that regard.

- Added sound looping.

- Cancel will happen immediately, not after playing the loop.

- ClearType option for 2002 users, it helps with LCD theme, looks bad on the LED theme.

- Darker LCD text, was washed out on some devices.

- Most reported bugs fixed.

- Changed some this to see if it effected the install problems of SOME C500 users.

Note to C500 users, if you have problems installing, please tell me your Carrier and anything else you can think of.

Links are as follows:

CAB file:

http://www.codecity.net/files/smartphone/C...larmsSp.ARM.CAB

EXE file for PC (with installer)

http://www.codecity.net/files/smartphone/C...imeAlarmsSp.exe

If you have ANY problems, contact me.

Thanks!

Kenny.

Just tried to install the beta 2 on my c500 - but no joy, same unable to install at this location error as before! :) It goes through the installation procedure, does importing of cities, airlines etc, but fails to install at the last minute.

I tried both the exe & the cab, and tried installing at both phone & storage card first, but got the same error message every time.

Its an Orange UK c500. Decertified. Phone has 20MB storage, and card has 10MB storage.

If you need any more info, let me know.

I installed the cab-file today on my C500. It works - I had my C500 dezertified from orange...

Same here  Perhaps it's down to an app that we both have installed that others don't ?

Just received notification from kennyg of a new beta v3. Guess what - it installed first time on my C500 :) Now time to play! Files are in the same place as the links above.

kennyg - just out of interest, what was the problem with the previous versions?

:) Me too! I get an error message when setting an alarm though -

window message (0x111) for window (0x52e7c0) terminated abnormally by an exception ()!

Whats that all about!?

Super app Kenny G, I nearly had a heart attack this morning though when the NYSEBell arrived

One little addition to the software I would like to see (coz my memory is real bad) is the option to set alarms fortnightly (once every 2 weeks), you'll probably get a few requests now for once every 3 weeks, 5 weeks, 6 etc... :) )

Its so I can remember which wheelie bin to put out - our bloomin local council gives us three bins, black domestic waste picked up once every two weeks and green and recycle waste on the other weeks. I like to set alarm to remind me to put bins out and what bins to put out

Mmm ... no alarms seem to be going off for me. Have set 3 different alarms for this morning & not one of them has activated.

I was going to PM Kenny this, but I think it would be nice to see if anyone here has had these problems...(maybe a mod will move this to a new thread)

KennyG,

I was wondering whether you could tell me how your alarm process works, is it similar to the NT scheduler 'at' command? or are you running a hidden process ?

I would like to add a similar hidden process or hook to the smartphone to enable it play sounds when you answer or end a call, giving the user an audible confirmation of the action taken.

Why?

2 reasons, sometimes buttons fail to operate and can leave a call open (mobile service providers proabably love it when that happens) and the other which I think many people would relate to - is nearly making yourself half deaf when on rare occasions pressing the answer key it doesn't work, and assuming it has - putting the phone to your ear and then getting another ringtone blast!!! that fr*gging hurts  :x

I got c# .net compact framework dev kit and openNETCF - just wondering how i would go about hacking into those keys - if possible at all.

Cheers

In Main Options Menu

Can't edit loops per ring correctly, if i press back symbol to delete '1' it exits...so can only create 11 loops at a minimum - does this option need to be there as it works ok when setting up a new alarm.

Following on from earlier post, I've got the same probs as DrBlow:

1. Setting an alarm - after saving the changes I get "Error - Window message (0x111) for window (0x5a1790) terminated abnormally by an exception ()!". I can ok that and the alarm then counts down correctly but does nothing at the alarm time - just then starts counting up.

2. When creating an alarm and selecting "2 Play Sample" the alarm plays and I get the "Dismiss" & "Snooze" options. If I select "Dismiss" I'm back to the settings page but hear an alert bleep. After a few secons I then keep getting taken back to the Alarm page with the "Dismiss" and "Snooze" options. Using Xbar, I can see some Fatal error windows - "Window message (0x111) for window (0x64c820) terminated abnormally by an exception (!)", "Window message (0x111) for window (0x5a3310) terminated abnormally by an exception (!)". The alarm page keeps coming back until I kill the CityTime Alarms process.

3. Some other apps font have been replaced by the LCD looking font; Some fields in CodeWallet Pro and also sometimes Xbar2.

4. I am unable to uninstall the app from the phone, even after a soft-reset. I haven't tried through ActiveSync.

I'm itching to use this as it looks great :)

Beta3...e200. Everything is working fine for me.

Quick bug so far:

Options...Loops Per Alarm: Not accepting backspace to change number. Backs out of the options screen losing changes

I'm missing the proper BACK key processing on that form. Will fix ASAP...

I was hoping the changes I made to the install would allow me to track this down properly! Both of you have the c500? I believe your phones are not fully unlocked, at least not as far as a certain API call is concerned. When you save an alarm it looks at all the alarms and uses the Notify API to set an event to go off at the time of the next alarm, this API is causing problems on your phones, well, at least it is causing my program problems... It is failing in a WAY unexpected manor, I've just written to catch the error correctly now, so I should be able to at least diagnose the error properly...

Would either of you mind trying a new version before I send out yet another beta (YEB?) ?

I'm itching to use this as it looks great :)

And I want like crazy for it to work!

I would like to add a similar hidden process or hook to the smartphone to enable it play sounds when you answer or end a call, giving the user an audible confirmation of the action taken.

It is using the Notification API built into Windows CE, but this wouldn't do you much good, the notification is event based OR time based and there are no events for phone pickup or hangup.

HOWEVER, you can have a dedicated application that will use TAPI to MONITOR the line and do something on hangup and pickup! There is some sample code at www.smartphonedn.com that will demonstrate at least part of what you want, the only problem is that it uses callbacks and .NET CF does not work with these, but you might be able to find a wrapper that might help.

Again, I don't think it is possible with the .NET CF, but you can do it with a C++ program if your are willing. The only problem with the approach is that Windows CE is limited to 32 processes in the system at any one time and the OS and UI take up atleast 5 of those off the top, I know the Pocket PC is already getting close to the limite on many devices so you should be aware of this.

Yep, I've got the C500. I was thinking along the same lines which is why I re-unlocked through the Orange Dev Site. When I re-installed the previous version it didn't ask if I trusted the app. This time however, it did ask me? Could the phone be re-locking itself for some bizarre reason?

Would either of you mind trying a new version before I send out yet another beta (YEB?) ?

Sure thing. Fire away.

Mine is unlocked through the OTA method too. You can send me a new version too - I want this app to work too!! :)

I believe this program is messing up my voice notes. I can't play them anymore...

Anyone had the same trouble?

You can no longer play voice notes in general? OR you can't record them?

First problem ?

I think I have a trial version instead of a beta. Could this be right?

There is only a beta, and the beta also expires, so it appears to be a trial...

The latest version is marked on the About screen as Beta 3, I neglected to mark the previous versions this way.

More problems?

Current know problems:

1) C500 issues on some devices, protection fault error when saving.

2) Back key not working on Options screen.

Voice notes seems to be fine on my c500. I'm also having the same problem with uninstalling as fozzie!

Because of the errors that you received, it was the code that activated the alarms.
