I had the same problem with other programs for MS Smartphone. Unfortuantely the only solution is to take digital camera and take photos of the display to grab screens...

OMG!

That's actually a helpful post (well, to some people), with no bitter comments, no references to Nokia or MS Smartphone and no freakish undertones!

I never thought you had it in you msmobiles!

No - you can use "active sync remote display" for most programs. For tomtom you will maybe need a demo mode of the software.

Ah, see, now you've spoilt the one bit of useful info msmobiles has ever produced!

Shame on you!

Just to reiterate what beersoft already posted, I've used my Belkin GPS and my Plantronics 2500 at the same time, no problem!

Does anyone know how much data is included on the supplied 128MB MMC card?

Can this data be copied over to an existing SD card to save having to switch cards each time TomTom is used?

Not sure if I have missed this anywhere.

Does the pack include Europe maps as well? if not are they extra and any idea of how much?

Also has anyone tried the traffic system with TomTom yet? is it any good? how much more does it cost if any?

Thanks

It comes with a single country map not full Europe. The full Europe Wide upgrade map set is approx £120.00 and is a common product across Palm, PPC and Smartphone versions.

Traffic is not available on the current version but will be offered as a future upgrade. The subscription is Euro 49.00 per year for the PocketPC version so I would assume it will be similar for the Smartphone when available.

Strange you should say that the maps are the same across the platforms. (I thought they would be anyway) I contacted Tomtom about this as I already had a PocketPC with their software. I asked if the maps were usable on the phone and they said no, I asked if they would provide a cheaper upgrade for me as I've already brought the software, they said no. They also said that the programs were totally different to the PocketPC type. When I ask 'how?' as it ran on Window CE with the phones running Windows Mobile, they didn't bother to answer...

If the maps are transferrable, doesn't this open up an easy method of copying the maps for other users?

Unfortunately not for TomTom Mobile.

Regarding the use of different GPS units my view (and only mine) is the following,

If the Mobile version will only use TomTom's own GPS unit it would certainly reduce piracy, which from a business point of view is a smart move.

Well I think I'll buy it... once they sort out the C500 problem they have...

I know it's not an exact science, but are there any indications as to when the C500 tweaks may be completed? Weeks? Months?

I am really keen to get this package for my new C500

Thanks for the info, one more question if I may.

I have been using Mapopolis for some time and to plan a long route you need to know which county maps to load as well as the major road maps.

In other words you have to load the map for where you are, the major road map and then you need the local map for your destination as well. This is not a problem as the maps are small and I have a nice big SD card its just that its tedious having to unload one map then load another map every time I go somewhere else.

What I want to know does Tomtom mobile work in the same way or does it load all of the single country map in one go so that you can set a route from somewhere in Cornwall all the way up to Inverness in one go without having to mess about with different maps?

TT Mobile has the whole UK map on a 128mb card (map is 101mb approx) so routing is seamless.

I agree that fixing it to the tom tom gps would be a great way to prevent piracy. But also would mean that there would be NO CHANCE whatsoever that i will purchase it. As I have already spent out £90 on a bt gps device and do not want another one. Plus the one I have seems to work a lot better than the tom tom one that I tested.

CoPilot is looking better by the day. One question for anyone who has tested CoPilot. What is the voice like that reads out the directions? I know it is a small point bu the voice in Mapopolis really gets on my bloody nerves and quite often I end up reverting back to a paper map coz I can't stand that bloody robot telling me where to go!

We have full reviews of both TT Mobile and CoPilot Smartphone available soon. The voice on CoPilot is .wav files, nice and loud and very clear. No Text To Speech (TTS) on these versions, I never liked them and the processing required is not available on these devices.
