Guest rodrigoperu Posted November 22, 2004 Report Posted November 22, 2004 right on mattkirby! I agree with you completely. Spyware still is not profitable and (probably still won't be some years from now) and on the virus front, you are also right, the virus is not as sophisticated, though it is a small step for virus writers in the right? direction (at least for them) I'm sure as these people keep putting their best efforts in screwing up these little machines, we will see more "advancements" in the viruses, and, like you said, no matter how many times some people are told no to open risky email, or install dubious apps, they still do, and the same will happen with these phones. It's just a matter of time and how much effort virus writters put in it.
Guest brightjo Posted November 23, 2004 Report Posted November 23, 2004  Anti-virus product for Smartphone? I am glad to tell everyone that the world leading anti-virus company Trend Mciro has just released a solution for this, pls kindly visit the links below to get more information: http://www.trendmicro.com/en/products/desk...equirements.htm
Guest rodrigoperu Posted November 26, 2004 Report Posted November 26, 2004 well, seems everybody now is going to jump on the smartphone virus bandwagon. go to www.airscanner.com as they also have released an antivirus for the smartphone platform. At least both these tools are free for now (interesting, but honestly, at this point useless to me) I can hardly wait for mcafee and norton to start selling their own antivirus "solutions" for the smartphone, and in true big-company flavor, bundle it with useless software that will only slow down and stall the limited memory on these phones. not to mention the system registry changes, and incomplete uninstall routines. show me a working, damage-causing virus, then I will gladly get an antivirus... at this point it seems as pointless as invading a country looking for nukes that don't exist... what?! somebody already did that?? seems the idea is catching on ,
Guest Liz Posted November 28, 2004 Report Posted November 28, 2004 Hi Looking for new AV for my PC and came across this http://tinyurl.com/3j6ce It’s Computer Associates AV and if you scroll down to “system requirements” they list Smartphone – if I get this program for my PC it seems it also covers my MPX200 (not sure how – maybe via sync?) Apart from the fact SP don’t have viruses (yet) am I missing something? Liz
Guest rodrigoperu Posted November 29, 2004 Report Posted November 29, 2004 Hi Liz, I don't pretend to know a lot, but from what I read on the link you posted, the AV program from CA is to be installed in the PC and protect the PC from viruses that COULD come from PDAs and Smartphones, and this AV program seems to cater more to the enterprise-level customers, generally heavy on pc-pda syncs. The programs listed above (airscanner's and trend micro's) are at the moment free, specifically designed for the SP platform (though I still can't concur with the need for such sw yet) I have been tinkering with some SD and CF cards and it seems that flash drives DO get fragmented, but at a very, VERY much slower pace than regular hard drives, hence the seemengly unexistant need for defragmenting them. It would be interesting if someone with more knowledge of the matter would run more tests or post more info about flash memory fragmentation and how the turning off and on of the phones helps avoid or increase the risk of fragmentation in the long run.
