Guest monger Posted November 2, 2004 Report Posted November 2, 2004 i am ultimately attempting to use Bluetooth to do ActiveSync on my PC. I have read various different other threads and im pretty sure if i can get to a certain point, these other threads will assist me. Basically, when i bond to my PC if i go to the Properties on the device, and then click on the Services tab, i only get a DialUp Networking service. From what i understand, in order to pretty much do anything with my phonw using bluetooth, i need to have COM ports here. What am i doing wrong? How do i make these COM ports appear in services? see screenshot attached.bluetooth.JPG
Guest monger Posted November 4, 2004 Report Posted November 4, 2004 can someone help with this please? or at least point me in the right direction. it seems that all other BT devices i bond to my computer have COM ports except my SPV E200. is it supposed to work like that? is my phone borked or maybe something my network provider has done for smoe reason? please help me. this is driving me nuts
Guest GhosC Posted November 6, 2004 Report Posted November 6, 2004 You must enable serial port on phone. on my imate it is in configurations folder (start->Configurations) BTSerialPortSetup. i hope that help You.
Guest mattbeale Posted November 11, 2004 Report Posted November 11, 2004 You need to add an virtual incoming COM Port to your machine for use with the bluetooth receiver on your PC. Once you've got your phone bonded go to the COM Port tab of the main Bluetooth Devices applet and click the Add button then ensure "Incoming (device initiates the connection)" is selected and click OK. At this point Windows XP will detect new hardware installation. Wait till it reports that the hardware installation was successful. You should now see a COM port listed. Make a note of the COM port number it has been assigned (most probably it will be called COM4) because you need to tell ActiveSync which port to use. Now open ActiveSync on your PC and click File -> Connection Settings and tick "Allow serial cable or infrared connection on this COM port" and then select the COM port from the drop down that matches the one that you added in step 1. You can leave the other settings as they are. Click OK to save the settings. Now start ActiveSync on your phone and press Menu -> Connect via Bluetooth. And that should be it. If it doesn't work first time try removing the phone from the PC's list of bonded devices and then re-add it. I've had problems in the past where bonding with my phone seemingly doesn't work first time and ActiveSync on the SPV E200 then falls over arse backwards and complains that the connection is in use.
